Oriental Cat Association
19th June 2010

My thanks to Show Managers Jane and Irene and the committee for inviting me to judge. Over the years I have judged at numerous OCA shows and it was an especial pleasure to judge at this the 25th Championship Show. Though the entry was low there were some excellent quality cats. I was very fortunate to have Carol Ward as my steward and it was indeed a very great honour and pleasure to have a fellow judge as knowledgeable as Carol to discuss all the exhibits with. It is many years since Carol last stewarded for me, but back in the early '90's Carol along with Phil Auden and Lesley Ann Buckle were my regular stewards at the Supreme Show. Carol I can't thank you enough for your company and for the discussions … it certainly made my day enjoyable

Oriental Ticked Tabby, Adult Male
1 CC & BoB Simpson's CH KATTILAN VOLTAIRE 45b M 23-01-08
A very small, thin and immature looking cat. Head of good basic type. Large ears of excellent size and shape with very good width, unfortunately has a tendency to bonnet them. Skull rather flat and a little uneven spoiling and otherwise good profile. Good bite firm chin. Eyes of very good shape and size, maybe just a little horizontal in set, very good green colour. Body of fine elegant type, but very small, lightweight and immature for an adult male. Excellent long whip tail. This cat has a superb coat, very short and close lying, excellent texture. Excellent rich chocolate ticking on correct coloured ground. The ticking is sharply defined and the hairs are evenly banded their entire length. This is without doubt the finest ticked coat I have seen, and for this reason alone I awarded the CC, though I still did so with some reservations regarding his size and fragility.

Oriental Ticked Tabby, Adult Female
1 CC n/a Fremont's LUNATORA FORYOUREYESONLY 45s F 21-07-09
A well grown young female of overall pleasing type. Head of fairly good overall type. Ears need to be a little larger, good shape and fair set. Fair profile, firm chin and correct bite. Muzzle showing defined pinch. Eyes of good size, shape and set, good colour. Body of good length, firm and elegant with balanced legs and tail - an elegant girl. Coat a little long for perfection, good texture and close lying. I found the ticking to be indistinct and 'blurred' with the majority of it on the upper portion of the hairs and a large proportion of the hair being base colour only. The coat is intermediate between Ticked and Shaded and from my experience of breeding Ticked Tabbies and Shaded since 1974 I am of little doubt that before long she will need re-registering as a Shaded.

Havana, Kitten Female
1 BoB n/a Fletcher's MAZPAHS MUSTANG SALLY 29 F 29-11-09
A very elegant and extremely beautiful kitten. Head of overall excellence showing perfect balance. Ears large and of excellent set with superb top of head. Excellent profile, correct bite, chin just a trifle shallow for perfection. Good clear green eyes of excellent size, shape and set with the most exquisite expression. Long body of excellent Oriental type. Long elegant legs with, very neat spoon feet. Tail of excellent taper but a fraction short for balance. Coat short, close lying and excellent texture. Colour a superb rich chestnut brown, albeit not quite sound to the roots. Unfortunately this stunning lass had scattered white hairs on her tummy and armpits - these hairs are scattered and need not be there - unfortunately they were and therefore I had no alternative but to withhold the BoB. This gorgeous kitten was in excellent condition and had a delightful temperament. Certainly a little lady full of quality.

Oriental Cinnamon, Neuter Male
1 PC & BoB Lowell's GR PR SUSPIRIA WILLIAM BECKFORD 37k MN 21-04-07
A very friendly and handsome, if somewhat chubby, lad. Head of overall very good type showing correct balance. Ears of very good size and shape, very well set. Very good top of head, strong profile, correct bite and firm chin. Eyes, greenish in colour, correct set but rather full. Body of very good length and type carrying just a little too much weight. Long legs, well shaped feet. Tail fair taper but needs length for balance. Coat very good length and texture, very good colour but rather uneven showing too much ghosting and not quite sound. An excellent natured lad well deserving of the PC.

Oriental Shaded, Neuter Female
1 PC & BoB Hutchings' GR PR WILLHAVETODO IMJUSTDIVINE 43e FN 04-08-07
Well balanced head of overall balance. Ears large and well set with good width between. Skull a little flat for perfection but otherwise showing a very good profile. Chin rather shallow. Eyes of very good shape and set, a good clear green. Very good lines to wedge. Body of good length and correct type. Slender limbs and very dainty paws. Tail would benefit from a little more length. Coat very short, sleek and close lying; excellent texture. Coat showing a good degree of shading with a very good depth of base colour. Excellent rich well mingled colour. I had absolutely no doubt that this delightful lass was a Shaded …. and how good to see a 'standard' Shaded for a change. Well deserving of the PC and BoB.

AV Self Adult not bred by exhibitor
1 Cassar-Simmonds' CH CIATRA BASHFUL BRUNO 37 M
A superior male of overall excellence. Strong well balanced head of excellent type. Ears large and well set. Excellent top of head and profile, good strong chin. Eyes good shape and set, colour could be a stronger green. Strong and muscular body of excellent Oriental type. Long slender legs. Tail short for balance. Coat of good texture, just a little long, and not lying as close as it could, excellent dense glossy black and as sound as it comes. A very attractive gent.

2 Hatchett's NUTROSTAR IMPERELISTIC 37n M
Head overall lacking balance. Ears rather small and too upright in set. Muzzle showing pinch. Eyes fairly good colour but a little horizontal in set and very full. Fairly good body type. Coat of very good colour but very open and woolly in texture. A friendly lad who seemed to crave attention.

AV Junior Adult
1 Cassar-Simmonds' GR CH FIORDILISIO INFIDELITY 29 M
A cat of overall excellence. Strong masculine head of superb type. Ears large and well shaped ears with excellent set. Superb top of head, excellent profile, correct bite, firm chin. Excellent eye shape and set, good green colour and superior expression. Long body of excellent type but rather light weight and lacking tone. Coat short and close lying, excellent texture, excellent rich chestnut brown colour, but unfortunately not sound to the roots.

AV Non Self Debutante Kitten
A very interesting class of three kittens from the same litter.
1 McDougall's NUTROSTAR PUMKIN PIE 38fn M
A beautiful kitten! Head of excellent shape and balance. Ears large and well set. Excellent profile. Bright green eyes of excellent shape and set. Elegant body type, long slender legs, balanced tail. Coat of good length and texture, very pleasing even colour. Unfortunately for a tabby the dorsal area is far too solid and even in colour - I was not able to detect a spine line, let alone any breaks! There is clear evidence of silver undercoat and there is little doubt that he should be re-registered as a Silver Tabby or a Smoke. A very attractive lad.

2 Constable's NUTROSTAR TORTALINA 37e F A very attractive lass. Head of very good type and balance. Ears very good shape and set. Profile rather uneven. Good overall lines to wedge - showing slight teething pinch. Eyes very goods shape and set, good green colour. Long and elegant body. Tail well tapered. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent dense colour, well mingled and sound to the roots.

3 McDougall's NUTROSTAR JOES-SMOKEYSKIES 42 M An lad of overall good type. Head of good type. Ears good size and set. Eyes very full, a little horizontal in set, rather light green in colour. Body of fair type. Coat short and close lying showing very heavy ghosting on the sides with a disappointingly 'muddy' silver ground lacking in the clarity and brightness I would expect in a kitten of this age.

Green eyes of very good size, shape and set. Body of good basic type, just a little heavy. Coat of excellent texture, a little long for perfection, excellent caramel and apricot colouring, well mingled and sound to the roots. A fine example of the breed. Excellent temperament.

2 Baker's PR SOLARUS MISTOFFELEES 37fn MN
Head a little small for body. Ears rather small and high set. Good profile, correct bite, firm chin. Eyes of a fair colour and of good shape and set. Good lines to wedge despite his insistence on purring and blowing out his whisker-pads! Excellent body length and overall type. Coat of good texture, short and close lying; excellent apricot colour showing minimal markings. A lovely natured lad.

3 Lord's GR PR DRUIDSWAY BLACK PANTHER 37 MN
An elegant lad of good Oriental type in a dense black coat. Ears good size and shape, well set. Skull a little flat. Eyes good set and shape, tendency to squint. Long elegant body. Spine a little irregular. Coat good texture, a fraction long, good dense black to roots. Nice tempered lad.

4 Dinsdale's APPLEJACK VANILLA SKY 48b FN
A chap of very heavy type lacking the elegance I look for in an Oriental.

AV Male Neuter
1 James Hart/James GR PR KRISTOPHE LITTLEWILLOW 29c MN
A mature gent of overall pleasing type and excellent colour. Well balanced head of excellent Oriental type. Ears large and well set with good width between. Good profile. Eyes of excellent shape and set, superb bright green in colour and with a pleasing expression. Very good body type. Short coat of excellent texture and the most superb soft lilac colouring - surely the best colour I have seen for many years. A friendly lad shown in excellent condition.

2 Titterall's GR PR BABADAG ASIFBYMAGIC 37 MN
Ears of good shape and set. Profile very uneven. Eyes a very pale mustard colour with only a hint of green. Body of good type and length, but, carrying far too much weight. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent dense glossy black and sound to the roots.

3 Bax' MYLYNN MAHRAJH 62 43s MN
Head rather unbalanced. Ears set too wide and low, bonneted. Body rather short and very heavy in build. Coat of fine texture, but lacking sufficient length, even the coat on the tail is short. Excellent silver, excellent shading. Excellent temperament.

4 Hatchett's TIROLENA MAGIC JASPER 37a MN A nice tempered lad with a neat little beard. Ears held rather high. Severe pinch. Coat of good length, a little harsh in texture and very dark in colour.
