The Siamese Cat Society of Scotland
3rd July
2010
My thanks to Gillian, Pina and Rachael for the invitation to judge once
again. This show holds so many very happy memories for me over the past 30 odd
years, and is one I have always thoroughly enjoyed whether as steward, judge or
exhibitor: this year's show was no different. With the alarming decline in
Oriental entries at recent shows I offered to stand-down, but was assured that
the entry was OK! The entry definitely was good, and the majority of exhibits
were of high quality giving me a really enjoyable day's judging. Scotland
certainly is the home of some quality Orientals.
I grateful to Heather
McRae for stewarding for me and making her first foray to stewarding in the
Oriental section. Heather was great company and a good steward and took
interest in the exhibits. Many thanks Heather, I'd be happy for you to steward
for me any time!

A very elegant, though not the butchest, lad of overall very
pleasing Oriental type. Head of good shape and correct type. Large well set
ears of good shape; good top of head. Good even profile, firm chin, even bite.
Slight muzzle pinch detracts from otherwise good lines to wedge. Eyes a little
large, very good shape and set, grape green in colour. Very elegant neck. Well
balanced body of excellent Oriental type, very elegant and fine boned. Legs of
good length with very neat paws. Tail well tapered, needing just a little
length for perfection. This lad has perfect coat length and texture - it simply
could not be improved - short, close lying, and the most wonderful texture. I
had a query over the colour, because my initial thought was that he looked
rather cream, however I took him to a window and it was obvious that he is a
very good Apricot colour. Dorsal area is solid, with some slight marking to the
flanks. I was very impressed with this lad, certainly well worthy of the
Imperial. Above all this lad had a most wonderful temperament and thoroughly
enjoyed the attention, shown in excellent condition.

A lady of overall pleasing type. Well balanced
head of overall good type. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Good profile
overall, just a little flat top of head. Good chin. Pleasing lines to wedge.
Green eyes of very good shape, size and set. Body of good length and correct
Oriental type. Legs of good length, tail short for balance. Coat of excellent
length and texture. Coat colour very dark and not sound to the roots, however I
felt her other qualities outweighed this and happily awarded the Grand. A very
attractive lady shown in excellent condition.
She well deserved the award
of Best Oriental Neuter.

A
very attractive young lass, every inch a quality Oriental. Head well balanced
and of excellent Oriental type. Ears large and of good shape, excellent set.
Good top of head. Very good even profile, firm chin, good bite. Very good lines
to wedge. Excellent body type. Tail of good length and taper. Excellent body
type, slim and elegant. Excellent short, close lying coat of excellent texture,
superb rich colour, not quite sound to the roots. Shown in excellent condition.
A timid little lady who would not relax on the table, but in the pen she was
very relaxed and friendly. A lovely example of the breed.

A very attractive masculine lad of outstanding
Oriental type - certainly he has the attributes I look for in an Oriental. Head
of excellent shape and balance, strong and masculine. Ears large, excellent
shape and perfectly set with superb width between. Top of head slightly flat
for perfection, but insufficient to spoil the overall excellence of the
profile. Correct bite, excellent chin-line. Very good muzzle and excellent
lines to wedge. Eyes of very good shape and size correctly set; colour a very
dull colour with only a hint of green - but in a red, where a good green eye
colour is almost impossible to breed I found it quite acceptable. Long elegant
body of excellent Oriental type, firm and well muscled. Long, very long, fine
boned legs ending in very neat paws. Tail of very good length and taper. Coat
could be a little shorter for perfection, very sleek and close lying and of
excellent texture. Large areas of white well in excess of the required minimum-
excellent clear bright white. The red areas are of a deep fiery red showing
minimal ghosting. The demarcation between white and red is very good overall,
though there are some areas where scattered white hairs encroach into the red,
however this is being a bit nit picking. Certainly an excellent example of the
variety and the type that Oriental breeders should be aspiring to breed. Shown
in excellent condition. This superb lad has the most wonderful friendly nature
possible and is full of confidence, the ultimate showman which certainly wooed
the BIS judges and won him awards for Best Oriental Adult and Best
Oriental Overall - well deserved wins, congratulations to his devoted
owner/breeder.

Unfortunately this exhibit does not qualify for show because she
falls well short of the requirement for a minimum of one third WHITE markings.
Basically this lass is a tabby point with white socks - she has a very small
amount of white on the four feet, with no clearly visible white on face or ears
(just odd white hairs on one cheek), and only the slightest indication on the
underparts, the majority of which is clearly the normal shading colour of a
typical tabby point. I accept that one has to look closely at the ratio of
white in pointed cats, but I am in no doubt that the quantity of white in this
exhibit is less that 10% and no where approaching the required amount. The
breed standard specifies that all awards should be withheld, but I find this a
little harsh and therefore only withheld the 1st - however this exhibit does
not qualify for show.

What a delightful little lady! Head of overall excellence. Ears
large and extremely well set with excellent top of head. Very good profile
overall though showing slight dip to nose. Brilliant green eyes of excellent
size, shape and set. Eleegant body of excellent type. Long whip tail, slim
legs, very neat spoon feet. Short close lying coat of excellent texture.
Excellent colouring, well mingled and sound to the roots. An excellent kitten
with a delightful temperament, shown in excellent condition. A very promising
lass well deserving the award for Best Oriental Kitten, congratulations
to breeder/owner.

Unfortunately this lad is not Mackerel but is quite definitely a
SPOTTED tabby showing clear spots and broken bars. The spineline is of broken
and the pattern conforms well to the OST standard of Points - indeed he is a
very good example of a Red Spotted Tabby! Head of good basic type, Ears good
size, just a little high set. Eyes good shape and set. Good profile. Excellent
body type. Coat of good length and texture. Excellent rich bright red colour.

A lad of fair type only and cold
colouring. The pattern is superficial and there is no doubt in my mind that he
is a Shaded and not an Oriental Spotted Tabby, and should be re-registered
accordingly.
Oriental Bicolour Neuter
Male
This was a very difficult class to judge, with the exhibits
being of different type but both worthy of a PC. The reports on both may seem
rather critical, but in many instances the criticisms are nit-picking AND
both lads are top quality and I would willingly award a certificate to
either of them.
1 PC & BoB Dykes' MAZPAHS REBEL BOY 48b MN 14-06-09
A strongly built lad of overall elegance. Ears large and well shaped, set
rather forward on the skull. Profile made of several small flat planes giving a
roman appearance. Muzzle showing pinch which detracts from the overall very
good lines to wedge. Eyes of good set and a fairly good green colour, he would
look much better if he opened his eyes a little more!! Firm well muscled body
of excellent length and type. Long elegant legs. Tail of good length and taper.
Coat of good length, just a little open. White markings conforming well to the
requirements of the Standard, good crisp delineation. The chocolate is a very
dark colour, and is not sound to the roots. Excellent temperament and
condition. I understand that this was his third certificate, so congratulations
to both owner and breeder - I think this make him the first title holder in the
variety.
2 Samphier's EIREACHDAIL AINT MISBEHAVIN 48 38d MN 24-02-09
A very attractive and relaxed lad of overall excellent quality. Head of
very good type, just a fraction short for perfect balance. Excellent large well
shaped ears correctly set with excellent width between. Skull just a little
flat detracting from an otherwise excellent profile. Good chinline, bite looks
as if it was OK but he's lost many of the incisors. Eyes of very good set but
rather full, colour unfortunately is a poor orange-hazel with only a hint of
green, a genetic anomaly of so may reds in Orientals. Elegant neck. Excellent
length body of superb type. Long slender legs, balanced tail of good length and
taper. Coat a fraction long but close lying and of excellent texture. Excellent
bright rich red colour, sound to the roots and showing only feint barring. Good
bright white with good demarcation. Excellent condition and an outstanding
temperament.
