GCCF SUPREME SHOW 2007

17th November 2007

This years Supreme Show was as good as most I've judged at, it was such a pity the parking was difficult - certainly an ordeal for exhibitors!

The NFC is a breed I have always admired since it first came to Britain, and one I have judged since that time - it is such an attractive no nonsense breed. Having always taken a great interest in the breed I was delighted to be invited to judge the adults at this years show. The entry was very good though it was very disappointing that there were 8 absentees. In this breed coat quality has to be a major consideration, and it was pleasing to see that so many had NOT been 'over prepared' for the show. Following an extremely mild autumn the majority of the exhibits were in varying stages of the moult and I took this into account and did not unduly penalise for it. Even in the moult there is no problem assessing the quality of the coat!

My thanks to Mark for acting as Chief Steward, and to Michele and Simon for stewarding, it proved to be a good team - so my thanks to you all.
Thanks also to the exhibitors for giving me such a pleasant and satisfying task .... certainly not a chore!

Norwegian Forest Cat Grand Champion Male
This was a class of three excellent males and certainly proves that there are some excellent NFC in the UK. The winner was a very mature old gent of overall excellence and there was no doubting that he was a very worthy winner. The other two exhibits were both cats of great quality and were unlucky that they hade to compete with the winner.

1 & UK GCC Morris' UK GR CH LITTLE TIN SOLDIER FELIS AUDAX 67 14b 05/07/98
I was delighted to meet this grand old gent, I do not recollect our paths crossing before. He is an excellent example of the breed and has all the requirements, but I suspect that age has taken its toll. A strong masculine head of overall quality, he has very heavy jowls which tend to mask the underlying excellent type - but there is no doubting he has the type, and to be sure jowls certainly aren't a fault in a male of this age! Ears of very good size, set just a little wide on the table but after judging him I became aware that his ear set was almost perfect and certainly not wide! Profile a little uneven. Eyes of good size and shape, clear colour - and how nice to see odd eyes of such good colour. Correct bite, good chin. A very strongly built body of good length with an excellent dept of chest - if I was to be critical I'd have liked a little more body length and height of leg, but that's only a minor quibble. Very sturdy strongly boned legs with very neat feet. Tail of fair length, but again for perfection needs just that little more. Though this boy's coat was lacking a little in length there was no doubting that it is was as near perfect in texture as you can get, I was most impressed. The top coat has the correct texture and lies over a superb dense woolly undercoat. This grand old chap could certainly take the cold and wet conditions of Norway. It really was a pleasure to judge this lovely natured old gent, who took it all in his stride with the resignation of age: after all he's done it all before so why get excited! Well deserving of the UK Grand.

2 Kestle's GR CH COSCATHAS LEO 67 31t 28/04/04
A large well grown exhibit of overall very pleasing quality, again I don't recollect meeting this chap before. Head of overall very good type with correct balance, though I did feel his ears were a little small for perfection. Good even profile, correct bite, strong chin. Eyes of very good size and shape. Excellent long body of very good type, showing lovely depth of chest. Tail of very good length. Coat moulting heavily, the topcoat was fairly good texture, but the undercoat was a little soft and fluffy rather than being woolly. Tail a little sparse and overall lacking 'frills' at present. This cat has excellent type he was is superb condition, just out of coat at present. Lovely tempered lad.

3 Hughes' GR CH LANDSKER NEO 67 31dts 29/06/04 A well grown exhibit of pleasing type with good size and substance. Well balanced head of good overall type. Ears of good size and shape though set just a little wide. Good basic profile though sowing a slight change of plane at the brow. Eyes rather small and only partially open which spoils the NFC look. Bite a little untidy, fair chin. Body of good length with a look of strength, chest of good depth. Legs of good height, strongly boned with neat feet. Tail of good length. Coat of good length but very soft in texture, with a very soft undercoat: this coat certainly does not feel or look 'waterproof'. A very minor point I know but I considered he was Cream rather than Red Silver. This lad was a definitely a laid back customer shown in excellent condition, pity his coat is so very soft.

Grand Champion Female
Two excellent exhibits in this class and both very pleasing examples of the breed. Both ladies were of UK GCC standard and it was such a pity that there can only be one winner. A very satisfying class to judge and a privilege to handle two such delightful females.

1 & UK GCC Lindgren's GR CH DAYJOY TITANIA 67 31es 29/06/01 This very pleasing exhibit was a mature female of excellent overall type and of very attractive appearance. Head of very good type and pleasing proportions. Ears good size and shape set just a little wide. Very good profile overall, good chin line, bite just a little untidy. Body of excellent length, type and substance. Legs a very good length and well boned. Excellent chest. Tail good length. Coat a little soft and moulting. Tail rather sparse. A very attractive exhibit of overall excellent type, excellent body condition, excellent temperament. Well deserving this high award.

2 Wheeler's GR CH DRAKBORGENS MISS QUICKFIX 67 31et
A very attractive exhibit of pleasing type and excellent stance - she is a very flashy lady, she came onto the table and stood as only the best of this lovely breed can! Head of overall excellent shape. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Excellent profile, correct bite and good firm chin. Eyes of good size and shape. Excellent body length carried on tall legs. I would have liked stronger bone and more substance. Tail excellent length for balance. Coat rather soft and a little short at present. A very pretty lady with excellent clean white. Overall a very attractive lady of very pleasing appearance, she pushed the winner hard, but the slight fineness had to be taken into account. No consolation I know but she was certainly up to UK GCC standard … such a pity.

Champion Male
1 - GCC n/a Rowberry's CH ROWGARNOR MOONSHADOW 67 31ats
A 17 month old youngster of overall pleasing type and appearance but sadly lacking the substance required in this breed. Head overall of very pleasing type and proportions. Ears very good size, shape and set. Excellent profile. Correct bite. Strong chin. Eyes very good size and shape. Body of very good proportions, excellent length carried on tall legs. Excellent tail length carried proudly. Unfortunately he was very light in body and lacked muscle, I would suspect that he needs time to body up and if he does he will certainly be a cat to contend with …. He has the correct frame, just needs the padding! Coat a little sparse and lacking length at present. Certainly a cat of quality and had he been a little more weighty I would have had no hesitation in awarding the GCC. Excellent temperament.

Champion Female
1 - GCC n/a Rowberry's CH ROWGARNOR OVERTHEMOON 67 31ats
Litter sister to the above and again of excellent type but again lacking sufficient substance. Ears of very good shape and set. Excellent even profile, correct bite and good chin. Head very well balance and of overall excellent type. Body of excellent length carried on tall legs. Excellent tail length. She is sufficiently boned but lacks substance and sadly appears to be too fine … when she bodies up she will be a lady of great quality. Coat of very good texture, lacking a little in length. A very attractive lady with an excellent temperament.

2 Bishop's CH TIGANLEA LADY FANTASIA 67 31ets
A very attractive lady of overall very pleasing type, but rather lacking the substance which at 2½ I would expect her to have. Head just a little broad for balance. Ears of very good size and shape, set just a little wide. Profile very good. Bite a little uneven. Eyes good shape and size. Body of good length but rather too fine in build with light bone and lacking sufficient substance. Tail very good length. Coat rather soft and lacking undercoat. A very attractive cat just lacking sufficient body weight and bone …. She was a little uppity but handled OK

Pre Champion Male
This was a particularly pleasing class to judge and surprisingly was from where the BoB winner emerged. In a breed like the NFC substance is important and often this comes with maturity hence my surprise that the class winner took the BoB. The remaining two cats in the class were both of excellent quality and without doubt their day will come. Three very promising lads which certainly bodes well for the future of the breed.

1 CC & BoB Grabham's NORMAGIKATT ELROY 67 31t
At a mere 9½ months of age this lad really bowled me over …. barely out of kitten classes this lad oozes quality and is an extremely well grown youngster …. I was very impressed indeed! A strong well balanced head of correct type. Ears large and well shaped, very well set but held just a little wide. Excellent profile, excellent bite and chinline. Eyes of excellent shape and set with superb expression. Head proudly carried on strong neck. Body of excellent type with excellent length. Excellent tall legs, strong and heavy bone to legs and ribs, extremely well muscled for age giving that desired correct substance. Coat of excellent length and texture, very well furnished with fully coated tail which was held perfectly. This really is a most attractive youngster with all the qualities you can ask for - excellent type, size, substance and coat. A really pleasing exhibit with a delightful temperament. I was delighted to award him the CC and Best of Breed. My congratulations to owner/breeder, and also my thanks for allowing me the privilege of judging him.

2 Hermon's TIGANLEA VISCOUNT NILSEN 67 31dts
A large impressive youngster of overall very pleasing type. Ears of very good size, shape and setting. Good profile overall though showing a slight bump on the nose. Very good chin line, correct bite. Eyes very good size and shape. Body of excellent type overall with excellent length. Long strong well boned legs. Excellent body weight and substance. Tail very good length and balance. Coat just a little short but of excellent texture. Excellent dense undercoat … this laddie could certainly walk out in the rain!!! A very pleasing youngster of overall excellence. Excellent condition and temperament … also a very unlucky lad having to meet up with the winner! This lad is most certainly up to CC standard!!

3 Day's NORSMAGI QUINN 67 31fts
A pleasing youngster of overall very good type just lacking a little in body - not a fault at this age just a sign of his young age. Head of overall good type but a little immature at present. Ears of very good size and shape though set just a little wide - something which may correct as his head matures. Very good profile. Chin rather shallow and bite slightly over-shot. Eyes of very good size and shape. Body of very good length and balance. Good tall legs. Lacking a little in substance, he's still very much a big kitten and needs to body up. Tail a little short for balance. Coat of fairly good length and good overall texture. An attractive lad with a lovely temperament, very much a big kitten and needs to mature in order to compete with the big boys!

Pre Champion Female
This was a strong class of quality girls with the first three less than 18 months old and without doubt these three will have titles before much longer. A very satisfying class to judge.

1 & CC Johnstone's TUYET QUAVARA 67 20
A very attractive exhibit of overall excellence and surprising maturity for her age. I first judged her as a very young kitten and she has certainly fulfilled that early promise. Head of correct length and balance and of overall excellent type. Ears good size and excellent set with correct width between. Excellent profile. Eyes very good shape and size. Excellent body length and type. Strongly boned legs of good length. Excellent depth of chest and well muscled without any tendency to being coarse. Tail of good length complementing the body. Coat of very good length and excellent texture - this lady really does have an outstanding coat, a coat that would without doubt be water repellent. Excellent temperament and condition. A very pleasing exhibit of overall excellence, and well deserving of the CC and certainly was in contention for the BoB. This cat has the look of an outdoor can and has the attributes to live in the cold and wet of Norway! A beautiful example of the breed, congratulations to owner/breeder.

2 Handy's TIGANLEA MARCHIONESS PASHA 67 31ats
Another very attractive youngster of overall excellence, unlucky to meet the winner. Well balanced head of correct type. Ears good size and excellent set. Very good profile, good chin line, correct bite. Eyes very good shape and set. Body of very good type with correct length for balance. Excellent length legs and tail. Well boned and body of excellent substance. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent tail and frills. A very promising young lady indeed, she has excellent body type, substance and coat. Excellent condition. She was just a tad grumpy but nothing to worry about … and hey she knows she's gorgeous anyway!

3 Handy's TIGANLEA VISCOUNTESS NEELA 67 31ets
A large well grown youngster of great quality and conforming well to the SoP. Head of overall very good type and balance. Ears of good size, set just a little wide for perfection. Very good even profile. Correct bite, good firm chin. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type and length. Tall strongly boned legs. Very well bodied with good chest depth; very mature for age. Excellent tail length. Coat of very good texture and excellent length. A very pretty girl of attractive colouring. An excellent young lady showing great promise.

4 Fishlock-Lomax' CATWO ROSEANNA 67 31dt
A very attractive exhibit of basically pleasing type but at 2 ½ she is far too small for the breed. Ears of fairly good size and set rather wide. Good profile and chin line, bite a little untidy. Body of good type and correctly balanced BUT she is far too small and lacks the required substance. Tail a little short. Coat of very good length and texture. Very good red colour with lovely clean sparkling white bits. A very attractive little las shown in excellent condition, well presented.

AC Colourpointed or Mitted Ragdoll Kitten, Female
1 Westwood's FAIRISLE EMMIE 66
A very attractive kitten of excellent type and conformation. Head of overall excellent type and balance. Ears of very good size and shape, excellent set. Very good top of head. Pleasing profile, good chin, correct bite. Well developed cheeks for age. Eyes excellent shape and set, good blue. Strongly built body of very good length. Well boned and of very good size. Legs and tail in correct proportions. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent points colour. A very promising kitten shown in excellent condition, she was just a little overawed by the proceedings. She should have a bright future. Well deserving BoB

2 Davies' BLEUGEMS MAGICOF RAGSHAVEN 66a
A very self assured little lass of overall good type. Ears of good size and set with good top of head. Fairly good profile but rather too long in the nose. Fairly good cheek development. Eyes very good size and shape, fairly good blue colour.xcellent length body of very good substance. Good strong bone to legs. Tail good length. Coat a little short but of correct texture. Points colour a little uneven. Excellent condition and temperament. A very promising lass but she really does need to grow into her nose! A cheeky little miss!
