CHESHIRE AREA CAT CLUB

9th November 2002

John S Harrison

My thanks to Joe Mullen, Pat Parrish and the Committee for inviting me to judge at what is one of my 'local' shows. My thanks to Jennifer Fleming for stewarding for me - a first rate steward and excellent company, what more could I ask for! Very many thanks. Unfortunately I left the show hall in such haste (in order to attend a wedding reception in the Midlands) that I forgot to sign all my certificates, collect my catalogue, or indeed my expenses, fortunately all have been rectified however I do offer my apologies to all concerned!

Norwegian Forest Cat, Adult Male.
1 CC & BoB Handy's CH XANTHUS AV JOSTEDALSBREEN. 18 months, 67/31as
A very imposing cat of perfect balance. Head of excellent type overall. Ears of excellent size and shape, correctly set and carried high. Excellent length to wedge. Profile isn't straight but shows just a little angulation. Excellent square chin and correct bite. Eyes of excellent shape and set. Body of excellent type, needing that little extra substance that he will gain with maturity. Excellent coat length and texture. A very pleasing exhibit, well worthy of CC, my only niggle is his profile, but his other qualities more than outweigh this. A pleasure to judge him.

Norwegian Forest, Kitten
1 & BoB Dobson's MAYSULA TWINKLEBOOTS. 17 weeks, 31/31t
What a delightful baby … and what promise she shows! Excellent head type overall. Ears of excellent size and shape, correctly set with perfect width between. Excellent profile. Good square chin. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type, good length legs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture. I know there are no points for whiskers, but this lass really does have a wonderful set! A very attractive kitten with a great temperament showing great promise.

Norwegian Forest Cat, Neuter
What a superb class of quality cats this was. It was indeed a privilege to judge such very good examples of the breed …. on the day I would willingly have awarded a PC to each of them - but GCCF might have objected!
1, PC & BoB Healing & Jones' PR JARRAHKATT BLUES SHADOW. 2year, 67/31
This is a cat of great substance, coat and overall excellence - everything is in perfect balance. A cat of overall excellence. Ears of excellent size and shape, well set and correctly held. Head of perfect balance. Excellent profile. Eyes excellent shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent body type and structure with good strength of bone. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent condition and presentation. He also has one other asset, and that is his superb outgoing show temperament .. he comes out onto the table, stands four square, plume in the air with his head carried high. A stunning cat with real tickling whiskers!

2 Coward's NORDLYS WILLIAM. 11 months, 67/31t
Hard to believe this chap is so young. An excellent large strongly built exhibit. Excellent head overall. Ears of excellent size and setting. Very good profile overall but not quite straight. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type, perfectly balanced legs & tail. Excellent coat length and texture. A bit of a grumbler.

3 Sloan's NORBIRDOLL ZIPPY STOCKINGS. 2½ years, 67/31ts
What a large chap! Head of overall very good type. Profile just a little curved for perfection, and ears though of excellent shape and set were a fraction small for balance. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type, large well muscled and in hard condition. Excellent coat length and texture.

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll Adult Female
1 CC n/a Bulmer's CHARISMAGIC APHRODITE. 13 months. 66/31
A rather immature young lady. Ears of good shape and set with correct width between. Good flat plane to skull. Fair profile. Good muzzle and cheeks developing well. Excellent eye shape and set. Body of excellent type lacking in maturity .. at the minute she lacks size and substance. Good strong bone proportionate to size. Tail of good length, slight defect at tip. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent facial markings. Pity the dark patch on front leg is so prominent, it really does go against her.

2 Long's CH SONNYWOOD VANITYFAIR. 19 months. 66/31
Again rather immature and lacking size and body weight. Ears good shape and set. Good profile. Good muzzle and cheeks. Eyes very narrow in shape. Body small and light weight, very fine boned. Coat of good length and texture. Fairly well marked.

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Adult Male
1 CC Smith's NOBILITYS SOLOMON. 17 months. 66
This lad certainly needs to learn some manners, he nearly paid the full penalty for getting stroppy with the Judge! Head of overall excellent type. Ears of very good shape and size, very well set with good flat plane between. Eyes very good shape and set. Good muzzle shape, cheeks developing well. Profile seemed very good but he did insist on showing me his sparkling white teeth …. I think he thought being butch would impress me! Excellent body type and substance with excellent muscle tone. Good strong bone. Coat a little short, but of good texture. Rather darker than I like. Well worthy of the CC

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Ashworth's EMERISLE KOHINOOR. 19 months. 66aw
A very pleasing young lady with good size and maturity for her age. Ears of very good size and shape, very well set with an excellent with between. Excellent top of head. Very good profile. Excellent eye shape, size and set, really pleasing blue colour. Excellent muzzle. Excellent cheeks. Body of excellent type, very well boned and excellent substance for age. Coat of very good length and texture, very well marked. A most attractive exhibit indeed, congratulations to her Owners & Breeder.

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Kitten
2 , 1st n/a Allen's DOROMAS SPIRITDANCER. 7 months. 66a. I was really impressed with this kitten when I saw her in the pen, and even more so on the table. Unfortunately she has a pronounced deviation of the sternum which was confirmed by the Duty Vet -- I regrettably had no alternative but to withhold First Prize from what is in all other respects a superb kitten - such a very great pity. A kitten of overall excellent type. Excellent head shape. Good profile though nose a little long, which she will probably grow into. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent muzzle and cheeks for age. Excellent coat length and texture, very good points colour. A really lovely little lady .. and so unlucky.

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll, Neuter
Considered for BoB: Ashworth's PR EMERISLE SPINDRIFT. 3 yr 9 mths. 66/31a
Ears of good shape and set but a little small for balance. Too long in the nose which spoils an otherwise good profile. Eyes good shape and set. Fair muzzle, cheeks lacking sufficient definition. Body of good overall type but lacking in size and bodyweight, rather effeminate . Coat of very good length and texture. Facial markings not even and white encroaching into ear. Good temperament and preparation.

Haworth's PR POLLYWOFFLES TYSON. 3½ years. 66/31a
This really is a quality exhibit. He reflects so closely the requirements of the Breed Standard without doubt he is 'a large, powerful, imposing cat' … what more can one say? Excellent head type overall. Ears of excellent shape, size and set. Good flat plane to top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent muzzle. Excellent cheeks. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent body and points colour. Excellent markings. Absolutely no hesitation in awarding him the BOB!

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll, Neuter
1 PC & BoB Lawrence's PR SONNYWOOD BOSSANOVA. 2 ½ years. 66a
A large and attractive exhibit of overall balance and excellence. Excellent overall head shape. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile, just a tadge long in the nose. Excellent muzzle and definition of cheeks. Excellent eye shape and size, just a pity they're not deeper in colour … but hey nobody's perfect! Excellent body type, he really is a heavyweight!. Excellent bone to legs and rib cage. Excellent coat length and texture, with lovely points colour and contrasting body. Presented in excellent condition. A beautiful exhibit, with a relaxed nature. He seems to have improved a little each time I see him. Certainly a fine example of the variety.
2 Hawarth's PIEINTHESKY BILLY MUGGINS. 5 ¼ years. 66a
An impressive older gent with a slightly bulging waistline … though perhaps 'kettle calling pot black' should come to mind! Head of very good overall type. Ears good size and shape and excellent set. Excellent wide flat top of head. Good coloured eyes of excellent shape and set. Very good profile. Excellent cheeks and muzzle. Excellent body length and substance. Excellent neck. Solid legs. Good tail length. Very good coat length and colour, contrast with points could be better. A most impressive chap, well deserving of PC, but there was only one on offer.

3 Southern's ELLANDBEE POLAR PRINCE. 11 months. 66a
The baby of the pack, and he did look a very big kitten! Excellent head type. Excellent ear size, shape and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent muzzle and cheeks. Eyes of correct size and set but they were rather full and just a little pale. Excellent body type. Excellent size, substance and bone. Excellent coat length and texture. A most attractive and impressive chap, and in different company could have taken the PC, he certainly is of that quality. At the moment he's immature, which is certainly NOT a fault, but does have a great effect when competing with the big boys.

4 Lynch's PR CHESAWOOD WILLOW UFGOOD. 2 ¾ years. 66
Head of good type overall. Ears of good size, shape and set. Good top of skull. Good profile overall spoilt by rather long nose. Very good muzzle & cheeks. Excellent body type, size and substance. Very good coat length and texture. Body colour is very dark with minimal contrast to points. Excellent condition.

Considered for BoB
Ashworth's PR EMERISLE BEAU JANGLES 19 month. 66
A cat of fair type only. Head of fair type. Poor profile and too much nose length. Beautiful eyes of quite the most exquisite colour. Coat rather shaded for a cat of this age.

Ashworth's PR EMERISLE BELLETOILE. 3 years. 66a
I was dismayed by the very small size and light bone of this exhibit, she is far too small for a 3 year old in what is supposed to be a large breed.

Oriental Blue Adult Male
1 CC & BOB n/a Oldfield's CH ADMONSH MONET. 17 months.
A cat of reasonable Oriental type overall. Head of fair type. Large ears good size and shape, correctly set. Profile far too angular with flat skull and noticeable depression above brow. Chin rather shallow, untidy bite. Pronounced muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge. Very good body type, fine limbs. Excellent tail length with superb taper. Very good length coat, just a little harsh in texture. Unfortunately his colour is extremely dark, probably the darkest I have seen and is far removed from the colour required by the Breed Standard, unfortunately it is also very unsound. He was extremely nervous and didn't seem to enjoy his day at all.

Oriental Ticked Tabby Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Scott's TADACHOW CHLOE 45h. 13 months.
What a delightful youngster. This was the first time I have seen this cat, and I have to say I was impressed! She was Best of Variety Oriental, Ears of very good size and shape, well set, but she tends to flick them a little high at times. Excellent eye shape, set and expression, of good green colouring. Excellent muzzle and lines to wedge. Excellent chin and correct bite. Very good profile overall. Excellent body type with length and elegance. Long slender legs, dainty paws, good length tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Very clear sharply defined ticking in an excellent balanced mix of red, cream and chocolate. Fairly good leg markings though I would for perfection like them to run onto the feet, I would also like tail to be better ringed. A very attractive young lady of overall excellence. Excellent condition and temperament. Certainly well worthy of the CC.. Congratulations to Owner & Breeders.

Oriental Shaded Adult Female
1 & CC Stafford's CH HEYBURY TITIANRED. 43ds 3 years 6 months
Head of very good shape overall. Large ears of good shape and set. Good top of head. Good profile, though shows slight dip. Slight muzzle pinch. Chin too shallow. Eyes of very good shape and set, colour rather yellowish. Body of excellent Oriental type. Short close lying coat of excellent texture. Excellent light shading of very good red colour on an excellent clear silver/ivory ground. The shading is very light giving her a very attractive appearance. It is a pity that she does not have a good green eye colour, but she has qualities which outweigh this weakness.

Considered for BoB
Chown's CH SHADES LORENA. 4years 3 months. 43p
An older queen with a slightly fuller figure. A cat of overall very good type. Ears of good size shape and set. Profile a little uneven. Muzzle showing slight pinch. Green eyes of lovely shape and set. Excellent coat colour, even shading on soft base. A very attractive lady, well deserving of BoB.

Havana Neuter
1 PC n/a Cogan's FIORDILISO SUNDANCE KID. 11 months.
A most disgruntled chap who certainly did himself no favours. Large ears of excellent shape and set. Green eyes of excellent size, shape and set Profile very uneven and too angular overall, good chin line. He showed me a lot of teeth and I was nearly able to check his bite on my hand! Muzzle showing pronounced pinch. Excellent body type, excellent legs and tail. Coat of good length and texture, good colour and seemed to be fairly sound. Unfortunately he went back to his pen fairly quickly and was nearly marked CNH. I'd like to see him on a good day!

Oriental Ticked Tabby Neuter
1 PC & BoB Parkinson's GR PR SMAUG MERLIN THE MAGICIAN. MN 45n 15 months.
An Oriental of overall pleasing type. Ears of very good size and shape, well set with good width between. Good top of head. Good profile. Good lines to wedge overall but spoiled by slight muzzle pinch. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Very good body type, excellent length. Long fine legs, good length tail. Excellent texture to coat, just a fraction long for perfection. Good leg, facial and tail marking though I would prefer them to be more distinct. Ticking to body is only adequate and is rather to reminiscent of a Shaded, in the absence of natural light I gave him the benefit of the doubt.

2 Scott's INT PR TADACHOW MERERID EURIG. MN 45fn 2¾ years.
A rather grumpy chap who didn't seem to be enjoying his day out. Of overall good type. Ears large and of good shape, held a little high. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Good profile, strong chin. Good body type, elegant limbs, tail requires better length. Coat of fair length and texture. Ticking is very indistinct and even allowing for the colour lacks the clarity I am looking for. Had there been natural daylight available I believe that I would have said he was a Shaded
