CHESHIRE AREA CAT CLUB

8th November 1997

John S Harrison

My allotted Steward did not materialise and yet again I ended up with Marjorie Stafford, complete, I hasten to add, with bag of Pear Drops!!! As always Marjorie very many thanks for your cheerful company, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

ORIENTAL GRAND CHAMPION FEMALE

1. Ayre's CH MARJAM VAGUELY VAIN 29 A female of overall pleasing type. Ears of good size, shape and set. Eyes of good size and set, but very full. Muzzle far too square, spoiling lines of wedge. Correct body type, tail short for balance. Coat of good length and texture. Colour very cold, lacking the richness I look for in this old established variety. Unfortunately in addition to being cold the colour is very unsound, which of course precludes the award of a CC let alone a Grand.

2. Ayre's CH RIMANA SEA SPRITE 37 Ears though of correct shape and set are rather small for balance. Skull too flat with a rather uneven profile. Eyes of fair shape and set but of a very pale yellow green. Body rather cobby in type, lacking elegance. Coat rather long. Excellent dense sound black.

ORIENTAL GRAND PREMIER MALE

Gd Pr Wooller's GD CH & PR RIMANA PEGASUS 35. A large strongly built male of excellent type overall. Excellent head type. Large well shaped ears of excellent set. Excellent eye shape and set of very good colour. Profile overall very good, but just a little too 'flat' on the skull. Excellent large correctly balanced body, with proportionate tail. Legs just a little heavy. Very good coat length & texture. Excellent preparation. Well deserving of the Grand, I understand this completed his double title.

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT

I was delighted with the overall quality of the entry, and accordingly the placings were not automatic! Several exhibits were very unlucky and could in different company have taken CC's or BoB's - certainly augurs well for the breed. Whilst the Whites did very well under me this was purely the result of type & coat and NOT colour! I hope that 'colour breeding' will not become the vogue to the detriment of type - it would be sad indeed if this were to happen to such an attractive breed. It is indeed so very pleasing to find so many exhibits at one show which conform with my interpretation of the Breed Standard. My thanks to the exhibitors too for their very pleasant attitude to me during discussions on their cats after judging - NFC exhibitors seem to me to be amongst the best mannered and humoured exhibitors I come across!

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT ADULT MALE

1. CC & BoB Clunas' KLATRINGKATT MERLIN 14a A magnificent cat of only 12 months. Excellent head type. Ears of correct size and shape, perfectly set on the head. Excellent profile. Excellent eye shape, size and set. Large body of excellent length carried on tall legs of excellent substance. Excellent balanced tail. Excellent coat texture, a little short at present. Excellent plume. This magnificent cat was shown in perfect condition, and had a superb temperament. Certainly my type of cat and a very impressive example of the breed and well deserving of the CC, which I understand made him up. Congratulations.

2. Higgins & Moss' FROSTNATTENS MASTER OF VOLSUNG 31dts Another cat of overall excellence. Head a trifle broad with ears of very good size set a fraction too low. Very good profile. Eyes of good shape and set. Excellent body type. Excellent tall well boned legs. Tail rather too short for balance. Coat of excellent length and texture, though rather sparse on the tail. A very impressive chap and quite the most interesting colour I've seen in the breed! He certainly is up to CC standard, but was unlucky into day's company.

3. Campbell's SKOGENS GUDRUN BLASOLV 18a. A very grumpy chap who did nothing to enhance his chances! Head overall too broad with a corresponding low ear set. Fair profile. Body tending towards heaviness and didn't appear to have the required length. Coat of very good length and texture.

I was very sorry that I was unable to judge VOLSUNG DUSTIN, I attempted to judge him over a period of 1 ½ hours. I sought the services of another steward who was able to get him out, but it was impossible to make any assessment of him. I was very disappointed because he appears to have a magnificent head. When I had my catalogue I realised that I have met him many times before but handled him rarely!

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT MALE KITTEN

1. BoB Holmes' KYRREKATT RAGNAR LODBROG 14c. What can one say about this chap! Head of overall excellence and showing perfect balance. Superb ears both for size and set. Excellent profile. Excellent eye shape and set. Muzzle showing a definite teething pinch at present, otherwise perfect lines to the wedge. Excellent body type, superb length, carried on tall well boned legs. Excellent tail length. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent preparation and presentation. This outstanding lad had the most superb temperament, and I was half inclined to do a runner with him - I'm sure he'd look pretty good in my home!

2. Campbell's MAELSTROM VILLREINENS RIKE. 20. Ears of very good size and shape and excellent set. Eyes of good set, but rather full. Excellent profile. Another chap with double teeth giving the appearance of a pinch, but the basic head shape is correct. Excellent balance to body, excellent length and size for age. Excellent legs. Excellent coat length and texture. Very good rich colouring. An impressive lad who was unlucky to meet the winner.

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT NEUTER MALE

1. PC & BoB. Clunas' PR KLATRINGKATT DAGWOOD 14a. An impressive chap of very good size, just carrying a little too much weight. Ears of excellent size and shape, carried just a trifle low. Good profile. Eyes of very good size and shape. Large body of good length carried on strong legs of good height. Excellent coat length and texture. Despite some concern over ear set I thought him well worthy of the PC.

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT NEUTER FEMALE

1. Coward's LIZZARA HEIDI. 31t. Head overall too broad for correct balance. Ears set too wide apart. Good profile. Eyes good shape and set. Body type a little too cobby lacking length. Coat of very good length and texture. Sorry I didn't feel she quite reached PC standard.

2. Coward's LIZZARA CAMILA. 15. Head overall too broad. Ears set too wide and low. Good profile. Eyes of good shape, but set rather wide apart. Body rather short and of heavy type. Coat of good length but only fair texture and rather matted. Tail very short for balance, and sparsely coated.

ORIENTAL LILAC ADULT MALE

1. CH. BETABIL VALENTINO. Head overall too narrow and lacking correct balance. Ears though of correct set rather small. Skull rather flat, spoiling the overall profile. Muzzle very square. Eyes of fair shape and set. Body of medium Oriental type. Tail lacking sufficient length. Coat very harsh in texture. Colour very dark and cold with some scattered white hairs. Colour very unsound, showing a distinctly darker upper portion of the hair. CC not awarded.

ORIENTAL LILAC ADULT FEMALE

1. Ions' MADHOUSE REHANNE. A rather stroppy young lass!! Head rather small for the body. Ears fairly good size shape and set. Eyes good set, but very full. Fairly good profile. Chin a little shallow. Muzzle pinch spoils lines of wedge. Body of good type. Coat dark and cold in colour and very unsound. CC not awarded.

ORIENTAL LILAC MALE KITTEN

2. Ayre's JOVIAL DRAGONHEART. A most pleasing kitten of overall excellent type. Ears of excellent shape, size and set. Good top of head. Eyes of excellent shape and set. Long neck. Excellent fine body type. Well balanced tail. Coat rather uneven in colour, and rather unsound. Unfortunately this beautiful kitten had far too many white hairs on his tummy and I had no alternative, in accordance with the SoP, but to withhold the First.

ORIENTAL LILAC FEMALE KITTEN

1. Parkinson's TENAJ MISS PHOEBE. A kitten of fairly good type overall. Ears good size and set. Good profile. Very good green eyes of correct shape and set. Excellent body type. Tail of good length with terminal pip. Coat of good length and texture, but very dark and cold in colour, and very unsound. Whilst I awarded a First I didn't feel BoB was justified.

ORIENTAL LILAC NEUTER MALE

1. Gray's ROVENY RONS BOY. Ears of good size and set. Good profile. Eyes of fairly good green, correct size and set. Muzzle very square spoiling lines of wedge. Body of fair type, but tail very short for balance. Coat very long and open, rather dark in colour and very unsound. PC not awarded.

ORIENTAL RED MALE KITTEN

1. Nicholls' SEAGARDEN AZTEC FLAME. Head overall rather long and narrow. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Eyes very good shape and set, unfortunately of light orange colour without a hint of green. Profile fairly good, chin rather shallow. Excellent body length and type. Excellent long tapered tail. Coat good length and texture, excellent rich red colour but showing excessive body markings.

ORIENTAL RED FEMALE KITTEN

1. BoB Nagle's ZARALASKA MAGICAL CHARADE. A most attractive youngster indeed. Head overall showing a medium wedge of very good balance. Ears of excellent size set and shape. Excellent eye shape and set of the clearest vivid green. Very good profile, good chin. Body of correct oriental type with slender limbs and balanced whip. Excellent coat length and texture, quite the brightest richest red colour I've seen for a long while. Body showing rather heavy spotting.

ORIENTAL TORTIE ADULT FEMALE

1. CC & BoB Ward's RIMANA TERRAZZO. 37g. Head of very good type and balance. Ears very good shape size and set. Excellent profile. Chin a little shallow. Excellent eye shape and set. Poor colour, only just a hint of green. Excellent body type but at 10 months still rather small for age. Tail rather short and blunt. Coat of good length and texture. Very good blue and cream mingling, but rather unsound. I thought her worthy of the CC and hope that her body size increases with age.

ORIENTAL TORTIE KITTEN

1. BoB Nagle's ZARALASKA BLAZING GLORY. 37E. Litter mate of Red Kitten BoB, and very similar in type …… certainly two very pleasing kittens. Excellent head shape creating a perfect balanced triangle. Ears of very good size and shape and excellent set. Eyes of perfect size and set, just a trifle full, and the most wonderful clear green. Very good body type, with excellent long whipped tail. Excellent close lying coat of correct length and texture. Excellent rich colour and sound to the roots. A most impressive kitten indeed.

2. Ions' MADHOUSE FLYING COLOURS. 37H. A very well grown kitten of overall good type. Head of correct type. Ears good size and correct set. Good eye shape and set. Fairly good profile. Short close lying coat of excellent texture. Very good coloration, and sound to the roots. Another pleasing kitten.

3. Ward's RIMANA BRUSHSTROKES. 37H A rather small 4 month kitten of medium Oriental type. Head of fair balance. Ears good size and set. Eyes good size and fair set. Muzzle showing severe pinch. Body very much that of a baby kitten, of medium type. Coat again very much that of a baby. Fair colour, but showing very heavy tabby markings to legs and body, and large areas of 'agouti' hairs. I did question whether she could be Tabby Tortie, but the absence of tabby markings on the largely chocolate head seemed to discount this.

ORIENTAL SPOTTED TABBY ADULT FEMALE

1. Nicholson's BETABIL CLEOPATRA. 38b. A small female of overall good type. Excellent ear size, shape and set. Very good profile. Green eyes good shape and set. Muzzle rather square spoiling lines to wedge. Body of good Oriental type, slender legs and well balanced tail. Coat showing a good richness of colour, unfortunately the pattern is very indistinct and brindled, with very little depth to the pattern and has grey roots. I question whether this cat may be a Shaded rather than Spotted - but rather too borderline at present to be certain. CC not awarded.

ORIENTAL SPOTTED TABBY KITTEN

1. Parkinson's KARIWOWL SUSIESPOTS 38s. A most attractive kitten indeed. Excellent type overall. Beautiful head of excellent type. Ears large and correctly set. Excellent green eyes of beautiful shape and set. Good profile. Excellent neck length. Body of very good Oriental type, tail of good length but a little blunt. Coat of very good length and texture. Excellent clear silver ground virtually free from tarnishing. In the pen I was certain this attractive lass was a Shaded, there being NO clearly visible pattern, just a haze of feint spots. On examining the coat however these very feint spots are visible more than halfway along the hair. At 4 ½ months old the pattern should be far more distinct, and I feel sure that this kitten will in time have to be re-registered as 43s. BoB withheld on faulty pattern alone.

ORIENTAL CLASSIC / MACKEREL TABBY KITTEN

Not as Registered: Rowe's GENTLEFOLK MISSMONEYPENNY. Entered as Breed 41 this kitten was most definitely a Shaded with heavy Classic pattern showing.

ORIENTAL SHADED NEUTER FEMALE

1. PC & BoB Cook's HEYBURY MADAM LEELA 43n. A chubby lady of overall good type Head of good balance. Ears of good size and set. Profile a little uneven. Muzzle showing a slight pinch. Eyes of very good set and size, but the rather straight upper rim spoils the shape. Very good colour. Good length body of good type even though a little comfortable !!!. Coat of very good length and texture. Good colour showing some markings, very good shading on an excellent quality base. Well worthy of the PC and BoB.
