COVENTRY and LEICESTER CAT CLUB

23rd February 2002

The 40th Championship Show of the Coventry & Leicester Cat Club was undoubtedly a great success and once again was the largest UK Show, other than the Supreme. Congratulations to Mark, Julian and the Committee for providing the Cat Fancy with such a good show.

Having known fellow Judge Phil Auden for more than 25 years I was delighted once more to have him as my steward. Thanks for your company Phil and your assistance in wading through the 99 cats in my book!

Proplan 2003 Heats
Semi Long Hair.

The winner of the Adult heat was Brigliadori & Robson's Ch SHWECHINTHE PALIMA a most delightful Lilac Birman female of great quality. I was very impressed by this most attractive exhibit. The Judges of the other two SLH classes, Mrs Rosmary Fisher and Mrs Jean Gillson, concurred with my view and she now goes forward to the 2003 grand Final.

Oriental.
The winners of my two classes were Mrs M Stafford's HEYBURY XSARA , a most excellent young Tortie of very great quality who I'm certain has a brilliant show career in front of her; and Miss Brown's Chocolate Ticked Tabby Ch & Gd Pr CLOUDBORN SHASTRI. Unfortunately only one exhibit could go forward from this round and it just had to be Shastri who is most certainly an exceptionally good example of an Oriental Tabby.

Oriental Cinnamon, Adult Male
1 CC & BoB Short's CH SINSIANNA CIMEROESLAD, 23/03/2000
Head of overall good type. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Eyes of very good shape and set, good green in colour. Profile a little too angular. Chin shallow and bite untidy. Excellent body length and type though needing better muscle tone. Coat of good length and texture, excellent colour overall though a little uneven in places. A nice chap.

Oriental Caramel Assessment
Merit : White's DIWALI FLORENTINE, 07/07/2001
A promising female kitten of pleasing overall Oriental type. Ears of very good size, shape and set with very good width between and good top of head. Eyes of very good shape and set, though rather large, pale green in colour. Profile rather uneven. Muzzle showing severe pinch, and lacking substance under the eyes. Chin rather shallow. Body of good length and correct Oriental type. Elegant legs with neat paws. Tail of good length and taper. Coat of very good length and texture, close lying. In the light of the hall this kitten looked decidedly like a poor Lilac, but fortunately we took her to a window and in natural daylight her colour was indeed Caramel, and a very good colour at that! Coat colour not quite sound to the roots. A most pleasing little queen who on balance deserved the Merit, but nearly lost it on muzzle weakness.

Oriental Ticked Tabby Kitten
1 & BoB Steven's JOYJEWEL DIAMOND CUT, 13/10/2001
Head of overall excellence. Ears very good shape and set. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Profile a little uneven. Excellent chin line. Excellent body type, elegant limbs and excellent whip tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Coat showing excellent ticking at present. Well ringed tail. Excellent markings to head. Leg markings present on upper part of legs only, with no markings on feet. Surprisingly little dorsal shading for age. Colour overall very 'bright'. Very rich chocolate markings on vibrant orange ground, most unusual in a Chocolate Ticked kitten of 4½ months.

Oriental Tortoiseshell Neuter
1 PC & BoB Simpson's GD CH STRELITZA SUNDAE GIRL, 22/05/1995
I don't recall seeing this grand old lady before! At 6 years and 9 months she certainly can still give the youngsters a run for their money! Ears of excellent size, shape and set, though needing a little more width between. Excellent eye shape and set. Muzzle a little weak and bite gummy! Excellent slender Oriental body type, perfectly balanced legs and tail. Coat sleek and close lying. Excellent well mingled colour, very sound. Excellent condition and temperament. A fine example of an Oriental.

Oriental Spotted Tabby Neuter
1 PC n/a Menis' PR INCHINDAR SHADOW PRINTZ, 09/08/2000
Ears rather high in set. Excellent green eyes of very good set. Fair profile. Muzzle showing severe pinch and lacking substance. Body type lacking Oriental elegance. Coat of fair length and rather 'soft' in texture. Poor pattern definition with barring to one side. Pattern extending well down hair. Solid dorsal area with no indication of breakage. Pattern showing excessive agouti invasion. Silver ground very 'muddy' lacking sparkle. Legs and paws heavily tarnished. I did not consider this exhibit to reach the required standard for the award of a PC..
