COVENTRY and LEICESTER CAT CLUB

26th February 2005

My thanks to Mark Lewis, Lesley Szwed and the Committee for inviting me to judge once again at this very popular and large show. Unfortunately my Mother was not well enough to attend and I took over several of her classes, I hope exhibitors were not too disappointed. My thanks to Mark for stewarding for me

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll Male Adult
1 CC & BoB Jones' SILKIESTAR RAPHAEL 66/31 - 10m 3w
Head of overall good type. Ears of good shape, size and set with width between. Excellent flat skull. Very good profile, nose at present just a trifle long for perfection. Very good cheek development for age, very pleasing muzzle. Good strong chin. Short strong neck. Excellent body type, good length with strong legs and balanced tail. Excellent size, muscle-tone and bone. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent condition and temperament. A very well developed youngster looking very much an adult despite his tender age. A very pleasing chap and I was pleased to award him the CC.

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll Female Adult
1 (CC n/a) Pidd's RAGALYN SKY 66/31a - 9m 4w
The baby in a class of youngsters. Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set. Good flat top of head. Fair profile. Excellent eye shape and colour. Cheeks showing some definition, muzzle developing well, good chin-line. Good strength to neck. Body of correct proportions with balanced legs and tail … but unfortunately not enough of her. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent facial markings, Good colour. Excellent temperament. Shown in excellent condition. Unfortunately she was small and immature, and certainly not looking like an adult female, but rather a very promising kitten - hence I did not feel that the award of CC was justified - I have no doubt that when she grows up she will take some beating.

2 Swain's DOROMAS BETCHA BYGOLLYWOW 66/31a - 11m 3w
Of very good type overall but very small and rather fine boned. Ears good size well set with good skull. Good profile. Needs to grow into nose. Eyes of good size but very full, rather pale in colour. Body of good length and proportions but lacking sufficient size and muscle. Coat of good texture but rather short on the back. Well marked. Good colour. Lovely tempered lass.

3 Benterman's CHEHAM TUTTIFRUITTI 66/31g - 11m 2w
Head overall rather round and not quite typical of the breed. Ears rather small and close set. Skull domed rather than flat. Fair profile. Fair cheeks and muzzle, though lacking sufficient definition. Body of fair length, but very small, fine and lightweight. Good coat length and texture, well marked overall, very pretty colouring.

AV Oriental Premier Male
GPC - Marston's CH & PR STOXHILL RHYTHMNBLUES 37a - 5½ years
A charming old chap of overall very good Oriental type. Ears of very good size and set, with good width between. Skull a little flat giving an angular profile overall. Good lines to wedge. Good chin line with correct bite. Slight muzzle pinch. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Good length neck. Excellent long body of correct Oriental type. Short close lying coat of very good texture. Excellent dense blue colour, sound to the roots … most unusual to find this today! A delightful tempered old chap who seemed to be enjoying his day out; well deserving of GPC.

AV Oriental Premier Female
1 Smith's GR CH & PR PASHTAN VIVA 37d - 3yr 9mth
Medium size ears of very good shape and set. Skull flat and profile too angular. Excellent green eye colour, good shape and set. Body of good type, tail short and not in proportion. Coat of good length, a little harsh in texture. Excellent rich red in colour which was as sound to the roots as any red is ever likely to be. Richly coloured chin with no lightening/whitening of colour as one usually finds in Red series cats, it was therefore very surprising to find that the end 1½ inches of the tail was very pale, almost white, with no evidence of clear red colouring even on the upper surface. Whilst I fully appreciate that the majority of reds, both agouti and non-agouti, seldom have solid red tail tips I cannot recollect seeing such a light tail tip in any red. I could not overlook the tail and did not feel the award of a certificate was justified.

Oriental Blue Adult Male
1 Tarbox's CH TIJANMEEK CRUISER 37a - 1yr 9m
Ears of very good size and set with good top of head. Good profile. Long wedge with muzzle pinch. Fair chin line though bite was uneven. Eyes of excellent size, shape and set but unfortunately very pale in colour and he had a quite distinct squint. Good length body of good type with balanced legs and tail. Coat rather long and open, very dark in colour and clearly not sound to the roots. Unfortunately I did not feel he reached the standard required for a certificate to be awarded.

Oriental Blue Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Lloyd's CH SEIDO SEASCAPE 37a - 4yr 10m
What a lovely lady! Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set with good width between. Very good profile overall, though to be critical the skull is a bit flatter than I like. Very good bite and correct square chin. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Body of fairly good length, just a little portly, but hey at her age what's wrong with that! Tail needs a little length for balance. Excellent coat length and texture. Lovely even mid-blue colouring which we so seldom see these days, not quite sound to the roots - really pleasing to see a cat of this lovely colour showing so very little tabby ghosting. A delightful natured older lady who really seemed to be enjoying herself, and certainly was more than worthy of the CC and BoB. Shown in excellent condition.

2 Simpson's CH NITERAP INDIGOA BLUE 37a - 18mths
A very disgruntled cat who certainly didn't do herself any favours and only handled with great difficulty. Head rather short for balance. Ears of good size and set. Very good profile. Severe muzzle pinch. Body rather short. Coat of very good texture. Very dark in colour.

Oriental Tortie Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Haggar's CH SOLARUS STARGALAXY 37y - 18mths
Had to query the Breed No of this cat with the Show Manager, she appeared in my book as 37g which she certainly isn't!!! An extremely elegant, fine boned and slender lady of rather extreme Oriental type with quite the most OTT temperament going! Ears of very good size, shape and set with good width between. Excellent profile, good chin line. Excellent lines to wedge. Lovely green eyes just a little extreme in set for my liking. Excellent long slender neck. Excellent long fine firm body, slender legs and tail in proportion. Excellent coat length and texture, Excellent colours well mingled and almost sound to the roots, showing negligible tabby ghosting. A delightful exhibit certainly deserving the CC & BoB ….. her temperament is really something else …. I felt quite exhausted after I'd judged her …. I think she must be a delight to have around the house!!!! Congratulations to owner / breeder.

Oriental Fawn Kitten
1&BoB Thomas' THOMASTAR RORY 37r - 17weeks
What a superb little chap, he has of excellent Oriental type and exudes quality … to say I was impressed with this kitten would be a bit of an understatement! Excellent ear shape, size and set with good width between. Excellent top of head and profile. Eyes a bit of a muddy green at present but doubtless they'll clear as he grows, excellent shape and set. Excellent body length and type, long elegant legs and whip tail in proportion. Excellent coat length and colour. Excellent colour, almost sound to the roots, showing just a little (acceptable) ghost tabby markings. A well grown kitten shown in excellent condition. A most appealing lad, I shall watch his progress with great interest. Certainly a kitten to be very proud of.

Havana Neuter Male
1 White's STYPERSON CLOUDBERRY 29 - 18mths
A cat of overall excellent Oriental type. Excellent ear shape, size and set with good width between. Excellent profile, bite a little untidy, very good chin line. Eyes of correct set but very full, colour a rather yellowish green. Excellent body length and type with balanced legs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent rich brown colour but sadly very unsound. Overall I liked this exhibit - despite his stroppy temper - but unfortunately I could not award a PC to a cat with such an unsound coat, a great pity.

Oriental Fawn Neuter
1 IC & BoB Gould's STOXHILL MAGIC MUSHROOM 37r - 1yr 11mths
A very pleasing exhibit of overall excellence, Head of good Oriental type. Ears of very good size and shape needing just a little more width between. Very good profile. Good lines to wedge with pleasing strength to muzzle. Excellent body type, balanced legs & tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent colour, unfortunately not quite sound. Excellent condition and temperament.

Oriental Shaded Neuter
1 PC & BoB Hardwick's SMAUG JONG YILL 43ns - 10months
A very foul mouthed youngster who really did nothing to enhance his chances - in all other respects he is a young cat of overall excellence. Ears large, well shaped and correctly set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile, bite and chin. Eyes of good size though upper lids rather too horizontal, colour rather yellow-green, and not as green as I would like. Excellent body type. Slim legs and whiptail. Excellent short coat, close lying and fine in texture. Excellent colour Caramel tipping on very good clear silver ground - I really cannot fault this lad's coat. Excellent condition and presentation. A very attractive lad of excellence, such a pity he's so grumpy. Well deserving of PC which I understand was his third - congratulations to his owner & his breeder.
