CUMBERLAND CAT CLUB
14th October 2000
John S Harrison
My thanks to Jennifer and Committee for inviting me to judge at the Cumberland which has always been one of my favourite shows. I was pleased to have Barbara Fellows as my steward again - a good day Barbara, many thanks!
AOV Grand Champion Female
GR CH : Wilson's CH BRUVAL SILVERCLOUD 72/43sq
A large and mature queen. Ears of very good size and correctly set with good top of head. Good little wedge. Very good
profile though just a little long in the nose. Good chin line, bite a little untidy. Eyes of excellent shape, set and colour.
Body of good type overall, though rather matronly! Tail a touch short for perfection. Excellent coat of correct length and
texture. Excellent clear silver ground showing very even shading. A really wonderful temperament, and she pulled out all the
stops to impress me! I was satisfied that her rather heavy type was the result of her maturity and felt that she well justified
the award of Grand. Certainly a most attractive exhibit.
Res : Kemp's CH GRATHORS NATALIE 72/45q
An
attractive exhibit. Ears just a little high in set, and skull too flat. Very good profile. Very good length nose. Eyes of good
shape and set. Excellent bite. Well size queen of very good body type. Coat just a little long, showing clear ticking, showing
rather dark roots. I did hesitate over awarding the Res GCC.
Asian Self / Tortie Neuter
BoB N/A : Lewsey's PR ADVERSANE BLACK LACE 72e 05/08/99
A cat of overall good head and
body type. Tail far too short for balance. Coat of excellent rich colour and soundness but unfortunately it was very long.
Oriental Red Adult Female
BoB : Cassar-Simmonds' CH WESTGARTH AMBER
WITCH 23/10/98
A cat of overall excellent Oriental type. Very good coat length and texture. Excellent rich red
colouration, though I would prefer slightly less markings.
Oriental Smoke Kitten
Not as Registered : Samphier's
SAITAN TALLOOLAH TREACLE. 42b. 04/04/00
A kitten of fair type. Ears of correct set and shape.
Eyes rather full but of correct set. Fair lines to wedge. Good profile and chin line. Body of very good length with balanced
tail. Coat of correct length and texture. Unfortunately I could see no evidence of any silver undercoat and concluded that the
kitten was not a Smoke (42b) but was infact a Havana (29). Having reached this conclusion I conferred with a Senior Judge whose
opinion I value highly and she confirmed my opinion. The coat is of a fairly even brown that is just a little unsound at the
roots -this slight lightening has a warmth which one would not find in a Smoke. The coat, even behind the ears, does not show
either the degree of contrast, or indeed the depth of undercoat of a Smoke. Additionally the face is evenly coloured and shows
no indication of 'clown markings', which I know from experience are visible in even the 'darkest' of Smokes. I judged this
kitten at Teeside in lighting which was far from ideal and expressed my concern at that time.
Oriental Shaded Kitten
1 & BoB : Parkinson's SMAUG WIZARD WINDLOW
43ns 30/06/00
A most attractive baby. Ears of excellent size shape and set. Excellent top of head and profile. Clear green
eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent body type with long whip tail. Excellent short close lying coat. Shading developing
very well for age, but still showing ticking over the saddle. Excellent temperament. Whilst I was very impressed with this
kitten both with regard to type and coat I did hesitate over awarding the BoB. Unfortunately this kitten has a very shallow
chin, though the bite is correct, and I fear that this will deteriorate with age. On the day however, in view of his age and
many qualities, I gave him the benefit of the doubt.
Oriental Blue Neuter
1 PC N/A : Flett's PR SEAMLESS POLLY FLINDERS 09/06/99
Overall I found
this queens head to be rather too snipey. Ears of good size shape and set. Eyes of exaggerated setting with rather prominent
haws. Muzzle showing severe muzzle pinch. Body of correct type. Coat rather long, colour very dark and unfortunately very
unsound. I did not feel that she met the required standard for a PC to be awarded.
Oriental Red Neuter
1 PC & BoB. Clark's LANDICAN FIREFOX
23/09/99
A really nice chap! Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Very good profile, firm chin and even bite. Eyes of
good green colour and of excellent shape and set. Very long wedge with even lines, devoid of any indication of a pinch.
Excellent long firm body type with long elegant legs and well-tapered tail of good length. Excellent close lying coat of
correct length and texture. Excellent rich red colouring, showing a little ghosting. A very attractive exhibit of overall
excellence, well deserving of PC and BoB.
