CUMBERLAND CAT CLUB
11th October 2003
John S Harrison
My thanks to Show Managers; Jennifer & Ian Fleming; and the Committee for inviting me to judge once again at what has always been one of my favourite shows. There was a very good entry and with the use of extra rooms the venue proved to be quite excellent. I had a very high entry, and was certainly very impressed with some of the exhibits I handled to have so many quality exhibits to judge really made the day very enjoyable day.
I didn't have a steward but would like to thank all the stewards on who I 'off-loaded' my slips!
I was very pleased to be asked to judge Best of Variety
Oriental and had some good cats to consider.
BOV : Sloan's
CH MYAA LITTLE MISSNAUGHTY.
This is a
really elegant female of superb Oriental type. She has a short coat of
excellent texture with very good blue shading on a rather pale under colour.
She is visibly of classic pattern and it is amazing that this has 'broken down'
to such a degree. She conforms well to the Standard of Points for the Shaded
and is an excellent example of the variety.
In close contention for this award was Janczyk &
McFarlane's GR PR STRAMASH ARCTIC SPIRIT
This wonderful White gent has long been a favourite of mine
but
unfortunately on the day despite trying very hard to convince me otherwise he
couldn't hide the fact that he was a bit on the tubby side, even bordering on
the positively podgy! Whilst I have an understanding of this problem I do have
to say he was being judged and not me, but having said that he is a quite
outstanding Oriental.

At 11 months this chap shows a surprising degree of maturity.
Ears of excellent shape and perfectly set with correct width between. Excellent
straight profile, good strong chin. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent eye
shape. Excellent strongly built body of very good length. Excellent strength of
bone. Excellent balance to legs and tail. Coat of excellent length and texture
with a superb undercoat. Excellent temperament and I think it fair to say we
enjoyed our meeting! A superb example of the breed shown in excellent condition
and in light of his age he will undoubtedly do a lot more winning to do.
2 Twyman's CH ELKINGTON'S KING OF THE ROAD 67/31t
21-03-2001
Another excellent example of the breed, and at 2 ½ years
he is a most imposing male. Skull just a little broad resulting in the ears,
though of excellent shape, being a little wide set, and unfortunately they were
carried a little low. Very good profile overall though not perfectly straight.
Eyes of excellent shape and expression. Body long, strongly muscled and of
excellent type. Excellent tall legs with perfectly balanced tail. After a long
hot summer this chap certainly still had a full and very impressive coat.
3 Healing's NORDLYS NICHOLAS 67/31 11-12-2002
At
first sight I thought this youngster would have been higher placed, he
certainly looks the part! Ears of correct shape and excellent setting with
correct width between. Top of head a little flat resulting in a rather angular
profile. Chin shallow and bite not quite even. Excellent lines to wedge.
Expressive eyes of excellent shape. A large well built cat of excellent body
length, well muscled and strongly boned. Legs of very good height with long
tail to match. Excellent coat texture. Excellent natured chap. A most
attractive male indeed.
4 Johnstone's CH TUYET MURCHADH 67/31t 18-11-1999
Skull a little broad for correct balance. Rather small ears of excellent
set. Excellent profile. Eyes of excellent size and shape. Body of good length
and type, though I would like a little more of him. Unfortunately his coat was
very soft, open and fluffy and anything but waterproof - and though I accept
the time of years I did have to penalise for his coat.

Twyman's NORGESKAUKATT DRIFFA 67/14 31-12-02
A most delightful young
female, and at only one week into adult classes was a surprisingly confident
young lady. Ears of excellent shape and perfect setting, with perfect space
between. Excellent head shape with perfect lines to wedge. Very good straight
profile, though just a little 'steep'. Body of excellent size and build, and
superb type. Excellent legs and tail. Coat of excellent length and texture. A
really beautiful female with a delightful temperament shown in excellent
sparkling condition.
2 Johnstone's CH TUYET ANISE 67/31t 12-11-2001
An
impressive strongly built female of overall balance excellence. Good sized ears
of correct shape, perhaps just a little wide in set. Excellent profile with
good strong chin. Very good head shape. Excellent eye shape. Large strongly
built body, with excellent strong bone. Coat very open, good woolly undercoat,
but lacking topcoat.
3 Healing's MAYSULA TWINKLEBOOTS 67/31t 13-07-2002
A
rather small fine boned female, lacking a little in muscle tone. Excellent ear
shape and set. Excellent profile. Severe muzzle pinch which may have been the
result of sore gums spoils an otherwise pleasing head shape. Bite correct. Good
firm chin in need of a wash. Coat very short and lacking undercoat.
Considered for BoB : Lindgren's CH DAYJOY TITANIA
67/31es 26-06-2001
An attractive female of overall very pleasing type and
of excellent size and substance. Ears of very good shape and set. Very good
profile. Excellent body type with good bone structure. Coat very soft and
appeared to be lacking in top coat. What a superb temperament this lovely lady
has! She definitely would have come home with me
and probably any one
else who said 'hello' to her!

At five months old this little chap really is a very promising
kitten. Ears of good size, excellent shape and perfect setting. Excellent lines
to wedge. Excellent profile, with good firm chin and even bite. Excellent eye
shape and set. Excellent body type, perfect length with balanced legs and tail
which he showed to perfection on the table! Excellent size and substance
for age. Excellent coat length and texture. I would suggest that this little
chap has a very bright show career ahead of him; I liked him and will certainly
watch his progress with interest.
2 Dobson's MAYSULA FTANNU 67/31t 08-05-2003
A very
attractive kitten of overall excellence. I considered his head just a little
too broad for correct balance. Ears good size but set rather wide. Excellent
profile. Eyes very good size and shape. Excellent body type, well muscled for
age and showing strongly developed bone. Coat of excellent length and texture.
Excellent temperament and condition. Despite my concern regarding breadth of
skull I did consider this to be a very promising kitten, and would have happily
awarded him a BoB in different company.

MAYSULA SVOLVAER 67/15 29-03-2003
What
a really delightful young lady showing overall excellent type. Excellent head
type and balance. Ears of superb shape, perfectly set with correct top of head.
Very good profile, firm chin, correct bite. Eyes rather full which I took to be
because she was a bit overawed. Excellent body type, very good length, with
balanced legs and tail. Well boned and of good size for age but needs just a
bit more weight. Excellent coat length and texture, good dense black colour. A
very attractive youngster with a delightful nature. Another one to watch!
2 Lindgren's MARAJADE MELIKA 67/36e 02-05-2003
Another pleasing kitten of excellent size and build. Head overall a little
short for balance. Ears good shape and size but rather wide in set. Very good
profile. Eyes a little too round, but of good size. Very good body type. Coat
rather short, but of good texture.

A large impressive chap of quality. I've judged him before and
have always liked him, but on the day he looked better than I've ever seen him.
A massive chap of excellent type, build and balance. Excellent head type.
Perfectly set ears of excellent size and shape. Excellent profile overall.
Excellent eye shape and size. Excellent body of massive size and excellent
length in wonderful firm muscular condition - this really is a 'big boy' rather
than a 'fat boy'! Despite being so big he also has surprising elegance and
knows how to show-off on the table! Excellent bone. Excellent coat length and
texture. A wonderful example of the breed having the fundamental requirements
in abundance - these being size, type and coat.

A most impressive youngster of overall excellence who I have
recently reported on - my opinion of him has not changed. He has a superb head
overall. Excellent top of head. Ears of excellent shape and set. Excellent
profile. Eyes very good shape. Excellent muzzle shape. Excellent short neck and
long body. Excellent bone. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent
markings. This wonderful chap has a superb friendly nature which he uses to
full advantage. I would like to congratulate his owner on both his condition
and show preperation & presentation.

A mature exhibit of overall excellence. This
gent is of quite excellent size and build and fits the Breed Standard so
closely. Excellent head shape. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile.
Excellent eye shape. Excellent muzzle and cheeks. Excellent body type of
correct length. Excellent strong bone. Excellent coat length and texture. This
lovely chap has long been a favourite of mine, he was just a bit grumpy today.
Shown as always in excellent condition.
2 Tansey's SHALAPAWS SEPTEMBER BOSSI 66a 16-09-2002
At twelve months I found this exhibit to be a little small and still very
much a kitten. Ears good size and shape, well set. Nose rather long and profile
showing a rather deep stop. Eyes of excellent shape and stunning blue colour.
Cheeks developing well. Body of good type with legs and tail to balance.
Excellent condition. This chappie needs to grow a fair bit in order to compete
with the big boys
. but he certainly has the time!

1 PC Bulmer's CH ADDICTIKAT FAABERGE 66a 08-03-2001
Head of overall
very good type. Ears of good size and shape and perfectly set. Good top of
head. Very good profile. Excellent muzzle, cheeks showing good definition.
Excellent body type, well muscled and showing good strength of bone. Excellent
coat length and texture. Unfortunately she was rather bad tempered and nearly
blew her chances. I would have liked a fuller examination of her, but thought
better of it! Despite this I thought she was well up to PC standard.

A timorous little
beastie who finally decided I wasn't going to eat her! Ears of excellent shape
size and set with good top of head. Very good profile, though nose possibly a
little long for perfection. Very good muzzle. Excellent body type. Good short
close lying coat of lovely texture. Well defined ticking, colour a littler cold
and showing grey roots. A dainty youngster well up to CC standard.
CNH : Scott's BEANNOCHT AIBHLINN 72 45q 28-10-2002
This very attractive exhibit appeared to be of excellent type and really
'caught my eye', nearly caught my hand and seemed hell bent on drawing blood!
Such a great pity because she looked to be extremely promising
.. I would
like to see her on a better day!

Duffy's CH FLUTTERBY TALLULAH MAY 20-02-2002
A most elegant female. Ears of
excellent size and shape, perfectly set. Very good profile overall though her
top of head is a little flat. Muzzle showing slight pinch. Good blue eye
colour. Excellent body type. Excellent dainty legs and paws. Excellent tail.
Excellent white coat of superb length and texture. A forward little madam who
was definitely "seeking gentleman for good time"!

Stafford's CH HEYBURY ZOE 38h 06-06-2002
Excellent head shape overall. Large
ears of very good shape and set. Very good profile overall. Eyes of excellent
shape and set. Excellent body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Overall
the markings, though superficial, are far too linked and are not sound to the
roots, and also show excessive agouti invasion. I questioned whether she was
infact a Shaded, but felt that she was rather more a Spotted than a Shaded -
otherwise I would have marked 'Not as Registered'. A very nice female let down
by her pattern.
