CUMBERLAND CAT CLUB

9th October 2004

John S Harrison

My thanks to Show Managers Jennifer & Ian Fleming and the Committee for inviting me to judge again at this popular Autumn show. I am very grateful to Dougie Payne for stewarding for me and thank him not only for his careful handling of our exhibits but also for his very good company, I hope that you will Steward for me again Dougie.

I was delighted to be asked to judge Overall BiS and had some really fine exhibits to consider, my thanks to Mark for handling the cats for me. My winner was Mr & Mrs Darnell's 16 months old British Odd Eyed White male Ch Hytek Maverick, who has a surprising degree of maturity for his age, and must surely have a very bright future ahead of him. Excellent head shape. Very neat small ears of very good set, excellent cheeks. Very good profile showing nose of correct length. Excellent body type. Coat of good length and wonderful crisp texture. It was this latter quality that gave this very self assured chap the top award over Mr Soper's delightful homebred Devon Rex kitten Sangeorge Justforu and Mrs Watson's impressive Red Birman male Neuter Gr Pr Mlyward Barley Sugar who were both in close contention.

AV Oriental Grand, Female
1 Stafford's Ch Heybury Zoe 43h 2 years & 4 months
A cat of overall pleasing type. Ears of good size and shape, top of head rather uneven. Fairly good profile. Eyes of good size, fairly good set, but very full. Good body type. Coat good length but rather coarse texture, good rich colours, but showing too much tabby pattern. A nice lady, but unfortunately I didn't feel she quite reached the standard for the award of the Grand.

2 Kilmartin's Ch Niterap Lavender 29c 2 years & 4 months
Head of good overall type and balance. Ears very good size and set. Top of head flat and profile very uneven, with distinct bump on nose. Bite rather untidy. Muzzle showing noticeable pinch. Green eyes of good shape and set. Body of good type with balanced limbs. Coat a little long and very open, including fluffed up tail. The queen was obviously calling and had very noticeable scruff damage. In the very yellow hall lighting it was impossible to assess the coat colour, though it was clearly unsound. Unfortunately not in show condition.

AC Colourpointed/Mitted Ragdoll Adult Male
1 Tansey's Gr Ch Shalapaws Mister Chips 66a 19 months
Unfortunately this very attractive chap was rather thin and light weight which detracted from his otherwise excellent qualities. Ears of good shape, correct size and very well set. Good profile, nose just a little long for perfection. Cheeks need a little more definition. Body needing more 'padding', of good length and balance, well boned limbs, balanced tail. Coat of good length and texture. Good colouring.

AC Colourpointed/Mitted Ragdoll Adult Female
1 & CC Tansey's Shalapaws Daisy Chain 66 11 months
A very promising youngster. Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set. Eyes very good size, lovely shape and colour. Very good flat skull, excellent profile, superb nose. Excellent muzzle shape, well defined cheeks. Excellent neck length. Excellent body type, very well proportioned legs with good solid bone. Excellent coat length and texture, very good colour, though muzzle showing a lot of brindling. I would like more size in an adult female, but at 11 months I felt she was of more than adequate size and still had plenty of growing time. A lovely tempered youngster, well deserving of CC. Lost BoB on maturity alone.

BoB: Tansey's Ch Shalapaws Snow Queen 66w 20 months A most pleasing queen of very good overall type.

Norwegian Forest Cat, Kitten
1 & BoB Lindgren's Marajade Alfredthegreat 67/20 14 weeks
Ears of very good size, shape and set with correct width between. Excellent profile. Good bite and excellent chin line. Eyes very good shape and set, lovely expression. Excellent bone and substance for age. Excellent tall legs, good length body. Excellent coat length and texture. Most promising chap.

2 Johnstone's Nirribhidh Notus 67/31dt 14 weeks Skull a little wide resulting in ears set too far apart. Fairly good profile, good chin. Eyes very good shape and size. Good body type. Coat of very good length and texture. Lovely nature.

Norwegian Forest Cat Male, Neuter
1 PC & BoB Coward's Pr Nordlys Athanasias 67/31ts 17 months
This large impressive cat is a superb example of the breed. Ears of excellent size, shape and set with good width between, though if I'm nit-picking the skull is perhaps a little wide. Excellent profile. Excellent bite and chin. Excellent eye shape and size. Excellent body type, large strongly boned and of substance yet retaining the elegance which makes the breed so very appealing. Excellent tall legs and long tail. Excellent coat length and texture. An excellent cat overall and one who never fails to impress. As always delightfully tempered and shown to perfection.

2 Healing's Ch Jhardufae Beano Ben 67/18 14 months
Another good chap of excellent type just lacking a little in size. He is only a youngster and it is to be hoped he will bulk up a little as he matures. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent profile. Eyes superb shape, size and set. Excellent body type with perfectly balanced legs and tail just lacking that bit of size. Excellent coat length and texture. Lovely natured chap in excellent condition.

Norwegian Forest Cat Female, Neuter
1 & PC Lindgren's Pr Marajade Mirabelle 67/22 17 months A cat of overall pleasing type. Earts of very good size and shape, correctly set on a rather wide skull. Good overall profile, though it tends to be a little angular. Eves very good shape and set. Excellent body type. Well balanced legs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Despite my reservations with regard to profile and skull width I felt she was deserving of the PC.

Havana Male Neuter
BoB : Morrison's Pr Adtresh Busterbrown 29 23 months
A cat of overall good type. Ears good size and set. Fairly good profile overall though the skull is a little uneven. Good body type with fine legs and good length tapered tail. Coat good length and texture, colour rather dark and not sound to the roots.
