EDINBURGH & EAST OF SCOTLAND CAT CLUB

9th June 1999

John S Harrison

My thanks to Margaret Walkden, Isabel Walker & the Committee for inviting me to Judge at the show. The quality of cats was very good and the hall conditions near perfect. I have to say that this was undoubtedly one of the most enjoyable shows I have judged at for many years. Rather exceptionally for me I signed 12 certificates, which I feel is some indication of the quality of cats I had to judge - many thanks E & E S C C for a most enjoyable weekend.

Norwegian Forest Cat Adult Male

1 CC Coleman's KYRREKATT BALDER. 67/17. 01-05-98 A well developed youngster. Ears of excellent size and shape, correctly set, but carried a little low. Excellent head shape overall. Very good profile, good lines to wedge. Very good eye shape & set. Excellent even bite with perfect chin line. Excellent long body, strongly built, and carried tall. Excellent strength of bone. Coat of very good length and texture, just a little moulty. Very good rich colour. Excellent condition & temperament.

Norwegian Forest Cat Adult Female

1 CC & BoB Crowe's ASTRA FELIS AUDAX. 67/31. 18-08-97 A cat of overall excellence which I felt outweighed the fact that she is lacking a little in size. Ears of excellent size, shape and set - nothing low set about this lady! Excellent profile. Excellent shape head finished off with stunning whiskers! . Excellent strong chin. Very good body shape and balance but there really needs to be a bit more of her. Very good coat length and texture. Excellent ear tufts, paws and plume. A wonderful lady with an immaculate white bib. Excellent condition and temperament.

2 Watt's CH. SKOGEN KEEMA. 67/31ET. 25-04-97 A cat of excellent body type of very good size. Ears a little small and rather wide in set. Head overall just a little to wide for the length. Eyes rather large and full. Excellent profile, very strong chin. Coat of good length and texture.

3 Luff's VOLSUNG QUICKSILVER KATE. 67/31DTS. 15-09-98 This youngster was incorrectly entered as a kitten and transferred to the adult open. Smallish ears of good shape and set. Skull too flat giving an angular profile, dip to nose. Muzzle rather square. Eyes good shape and set. Body of good type overall. Coat far too short - which did not seem to be the result of moulting, and she just lacked the frills.

Norwegian Forest Cat Neuter Male

1 PC & BoB. McMillan's ELFENTANZ PRINCE FREDERYK. 67/20a. 12-06-97 Excellent strong head covered with a heavy coat. Very good ear shape and size of very good set. Superb profile. Excellent lines to wedge. Very firm chin. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent long body of correct type and balance. Excellent coat texture of superb length. A most attractive chap indeed, he looked as if he could spend life out in the forests! Excellent condition and temperament.

2 Crowe's PR.MAELSTROM HOFVARPNIR. 67/31. 17-11-95. Ears of very good size and shape, set to follow the lines of the wedge. Muzzle looked a little square but I thought this was an optical illusion caused by the sparkling white whiskers. Bite not quite even. Good profile overall. Very strong body type. Very good coat length and texture. A most impressive chap.

3 Inche's PR. ELFENTANZ THORFINN. 67/31T Ears good shape and set, but rather small for balance. Very good lines to wedge. Correct eye set. Good profile. Excellent strong body type, very well balanced. Coat of good length and texture.

Ragdoll Colourpoint or Mitted Adult Male

1 IC Breslin's ADENTLO BRESYBOY. 66AW. 11-05-98 An immature chap. Head of overall good type. Ears of correct set, and good size. Good profile. Very good cheeks with neat muzzle. Excellent eye shape and set. Body of good type but needs to mature. Coat of good length and texture, but very moulty. Excellent points colour and markings. Body a little patchy.

Ragdoll Colourpoint or Mitted Adult Female

1 IC & BoB Gilchrist's AZZCOINE VENETIA. 66a. 27-01-98 A most attractive exhibit. Excellent ear shape and set. Excellent profile, perhaps nose just a trifle long. Excellent cheeks, very good muzzle, excellent chin. Superb eyes of correct set, and a delightful blue. Excellent body type, possibly needing to carry a little more weight. Excellent tail. Coat of good length and texture but clearly moulting. Excellent points colour, good clear body colour.

2 Lamont's TUFTYPAWS ANASTASIA. 66. 30-06-98 Head a little unbalanced. Ears a little small. Good profile. Fair cheeks, muzzle a little weak. Eyes very full though they appeared to be of correct set. Good body type. Excellent coat texture. Very good points colour with clear body.

Ragdoll Bi-colour Adult Female

1 IC & BoB McGee's ROBRAGS JASMINS BEAU. 66/31. 12/07/98 A young and rather immature female of overall excellence. She should be quite impressive when she is mature. Excellent head shape overall. Ears of very good shape and set. Excellent profile. Superb eye shape and set. Very good cheeks and muzzle. Excellent body type -needs to fill out which is only a matter of time. Excellent coat length and texture. Balanced marking - though a touch heavy on the white for me. Very good coloration. Certainly one to watch out for.

Ragdoll Colourpoint or Mitted Neuter Male

1 IC Henderson's AZZEDINE MOONSHADOW. 66A. 12-09-97 Ears of good shape, hell a little low. Good profile overall spoilt by the nose being a fraction long. Cheeks well developed with good muzzle. Eyes very good shape and set. Body of excellent type, tail a fraction short for balance. Coat of good length and texture. Good colouring.

2 Thurston's PORSCHAPURRS NICO. 66A. 27-08-97 Of overall fairly good type. Ears good shape and set. Fair profile. Muzzle too triangular and lacking clear cheek development. Eyes of very good shape and set. Good body type. Well marked and good colour.

3 Henderson's AZZEDINE BIG BEN. 66. 25-04-98. Of good strong type overall. Head of fair shape but lacking sufficient cheeks. Muzzle rather pointed. Pale eyes of good shape and set. Good profile. Very good body type. Good coat length and texture, points a little patchy in colour.

Ragdoll Colourpoint or Mitted Neuter Female

1 IC & BoB. Griffith's PORSCHAPURRS CHARISMA. 66. 27-08-97 A very nice type exhibit. Ears of very good shape and set. Excellent profile. Very good strong skull. Excellent cheeks, lovely muzzle shape. Excellent eyes for shape and set - and of the most vivid blue. Excellent body type. Very good coat length and texture. Excellent points colour. A most attractive neuter indeed.

Ragdoll Bi-Colour Neuter Male

1 IC & BoB. McGee's ADOUZLO MR MORGAN. 66/31. 25-08-90 Well what can I say about this really impressive old gent - he is magnificent. Head of excellent shape & type, if I was critical I might say his nose is a trifle, a mere trifle, long! Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent cheeks and muzzle. Excellent profile. Good chin line. Bite was probably perfect once but he forgot to put in his teeth! Excellent strong body of perfect type. Superb size which wasn't the result of excess fat. Excellent strong legs and bone. Excellent points colour, body a bit dark. Excellent markings. Wonderful condition and temperament. This grand old gent is a superb example of the breed, it was indeed a privilege to handle him.

Oriental Spotted Tabby Adult Female

1 CC N/A SAMPHIER'S EIREACHDAIL STARLING. 38. 15-11-97. Ears of very good size, shape and setting. Good profile overall but skull rather flat. Chin a little shallow. Muzzle rather fine and lacking substance. Excellent eye shape and set, pleasing green in colour. Excellent body type. Balanced whip. Excellent coat length and texture. Unfortunately her colour is very cold totally lacking the richness I look for in a Brown tabby. Very poor pattern form and definition with excessive agouti invasion - indeed she was ticked all over.

Oriental Shaded Adult Female

No Award - Gibbon's SAITAN MISTAKEN IDENTITY. 28-07-98 This lovely cat's name says it all! I just could not accept that this lovely youngster was an Oriental and was delighted when talking to her owner after judging that she didn't think I was completely barmy!!! A female of superb type overall. Ears excellent shape and set. Excellent profile showing just the slightest dip to the nose. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent fine body type, carried on really elegant legs, and finished off with a fine whip. Excellent coat length and texture. So what was wrong with her! I took this wonderfully tempered girl to the window on four occasions during the day - just to make sure I wasn't off my trolley! Eye colour was a muted aqua/green opal in colour with distinct blue speckling around the edges. It certainly was not the type of green (good, bad or indifferent) that I would ever expect to see in an Oriental, and having handled them for more than thirty years I have seen a few variations! It was also patently clear that this lass has definite and distinct points, with a clearly defined mask. She is tabby pointed and has the caramel colour which I first saw in 1972/3 in Siamese which lead to calling the colour 'Caramel'. Her body however is not devoid of colour as one would expect in a himalayan marked breeds. She clearly had reduced pigmentation, which is totally different to a dirty coated Siamese! This lady certainly intrigued me! There was a suggestion of tonkinese by her eyes and markings, but the coat didn't seem sufficiently coloured, and indeed the points colour didn't have that change of colour I expect to see in Asians with burmese restriction. She is certainly a mixed up kid, but smashing with it - and so very relaxed. I must say she wasted far too much of my time!! A most intriguing exhibit indeed and very many thanks to her breeder/owners for showing her under me. I will be fascinated to know what kittens she produces.

Oriental Grand Champion Male

Gd. Ch. Johnstone's CH TRELGANDORF THE PERSUADER. 29c. 22-03-98. A superb cat of excellent strong Oriental type - certainly what I look for, and sadly seldom find. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Balanced overall, though if I had to nit-pick I might say his muzzle showed the slightest of pinches! Excellent eye shape and set, wonderful green colour. Very elegant neck, with a most arrogant head carriage. Excellent long slender body carried on fine legs. Tail of very good length, maybe could be a little finer. Excellent coat length and texture. Coat colour just a little cold and not quite even to the roots. A stunning exhibit and a pleasure to award him a Grand.

2 Ravenshear's CH FISEPO KATANA KALEB. 37a. 06-01-97 This chap was of average type. Ears fair shape but bonnetted, and were leather being devoid of hair. Skull flat giving an angular profile. Muzzle lacking substance, especially under the eyes. Eyes of fair shape and set, but of very poor colour. Fair body type, tail very well whipped but a little short. Coat very woolly in texture and flaking open.

Oriental Grand Champion Female

Gd Ch. Janczyjk & McFarlane's CH. STRAMASH WINTER BELLE. 35. 08-12-98 My only criticism of this delightful lady is that she doesn't belong to me! She is perfection personified - a Foreign White of true Oriental type, nothing exaggerated simply glorious balanced Oriental type. Perfectly balanced head. Ears of excellent size, shape and set with a perfect top of head. Perfect lines to wedge. Excellent profile. Vivid royal blue eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent firm body of great elegance and excellence. Short sleek coat of perfect texture. Wonderful condition and temperament. One word sums up this lady 'exquite'. She is to me what a Foreign White should look like.

Res. Martin's CH. RIMANA SPICEGIRL. 37k. 02-06-97. A nice exhibit, but not quite in the same league as the winner - having said this had she been in the class on her own I would without hesitation have awarded her a Grand. She was indeed unlucky to be in such company. A very well balanced queen. Ears of very good shape and set. Pleasing top of head. Very good profile. Good lines to wedge. Excellent eye set, good green in colour. Excellent coat length and texture. Coat of good colour overall, fairly even with minimal ghosting. Showing just a little lightness at the roots. Lovely queen but unfortunately ather unlucky today.

Oriental Classic/Mackerel Tabby Female Kitten

1 Ronald's HIGHHIQ MISMONEY PENNY. 41. 27-10-98 Ears of fairly good shape and set. Eyes well set, just a little pale in colour. Good profile. Muzzle showing a sight pinch. Excellent fine body of very good length. Very good coat length and texture. Unfortunately her patten is superficial and of poor formation and definition with excessive agouti invasion. Her colour is very cold and is black at the roots.

Angora Female Kitten

1 & BoB Crowe's HINDARFIALL TAZZMANIA. 67/15b. 09-10-98 A wonderful kitten of overall excellence and balance. Ears large and well set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent eye shape and set, good clear light green in colour. Excellent body type, elegant legs and dainty paws. Excellent plumed tail. Coat of excellent silky texture and very good length with all the frills in the right places. Very good colour overall, and for the variety fairly sound. Certainly a very impressive kitten.

Havana Female Neuter

1 PC N/A McGill's PR ADQUASH BREAGHA. 29. 02-06-96 Ears low set and bonnetted. Profile very uneven. Chin very shallow Eyes of good size and set, but very narrow in shape. Fair muzzle. Body of good type, but tail very short for balance. Coat of fair length and texture, very dark in colour.
