26th GCCF SUPREME SHOW

November 30th 2002

John S Harrison

I was delighted to judge once again at the Supreme, as always organised to perfection by Julia May and her team. My team of stewards was quite excellent and I offer grateful thanks to Jennifer Fleming, Peter Hardy and Mark Parkinson for fetching, carrying, and handling the cats so well - and of course organising me! I had some really pleasing cats to judge and I thank exhibitors for entering.

"Have we really finished?
Peter, Mark & Jennifer.

Best of Variety Oriental Adult.
I think this is the fifth time I have judged BoV at the Supreme, this year it was a very satisfying if somewhat nerve-wracking task, it was pleasing that so many good examples of the Breed came forward, and the final decision was by no means automatic. I'm sorry I took so long over the judging, but in cases such as this it is important to make no mistakes. There were three or four cats of great merit, and I would have been quite happy for any of them to have gone forward to Best in Show.

My eventual winner was the Havana male Gr Ch Amenra Beau Bruin, bred by Mrs Carol Ward and owned by Mrs. Pam Wilding. This cat has magnificent Oriental type, and a strong masculine head that is pretty nigh faultless, unfortunately his coat is not totally sound and it was this factor which caused my dilema! He has a head of outstanding type - large ears of perfect shape and set; faultless profile with the most wonderful top of head. Eyes of beautiful shape and set, a good green in colour, and the most wonderful arrogant expression. He has a magnificent strong body, in good hard muscular condition, of perfect Oriental type. He has a superb close lying coat of excellent rich colour, but unfortunately it does lack soundness to the roots. Taking this into account I am of the opinion that this chap is an oustanding example of an Oriental.

Gr Ch Amenra Beau Bruin
Best of Variety Oriental Adult 2002

Mr & Mrs Bailey's Oriental Apricot Gr Ch Metaxa Sand Storm has a well balanced masculine head of very good type, the skull is just a little flat though and this gives a slightly angular profile. He has large ears of excellent shape and set, and green eyes of quite superb shape. Excellent strong body type with legs and tail in proportion. He has an excellent short coat of the most lovely colour which is totally sound to the roots, but .... and there always has to be a 'but' ...... unfortunately the texture is a little 'woolly'.

Mrs McLean & Mr Thompson's Foreign White Gr Ch Tempano Princepe Nieve is a cat of superb Oriental type. He has a strong head with an excellent profile, perfect chin line, and superb top of head. His ears are large and beautifully set, and he has deep blue eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent masculine body of true Oriental type. Good length limbs, which I thought were maybe a little heavy, and his tail is a little lacking! Sparkling white coat of excellent length and texture.

Mrs L Lawrence's Oriental Black male Tazkindi Lordof Darkness at 10 months of age was competing with the big boys and lost a little on maturity. I felt that his skull was a little too flat and slightly uneven which of course spoiled his overall profile. A promising youg chap indeed.

Miss J Lumley's Oriental Red female Gr Ch Jadvyn Redhotchilli is rather small female of great elegance. She is rather weak in the muzzle with a defined pinch and on the day this counted against her.

Mr & Mrs Phillips' Oriental Lilac female Ch Seido Sortilege is a medium type Oriental and was outclassed in this competition. She has a very uneven profile, flat skull and a severe muzzle pinch. Short tail with terminal pip.

Miss E Sloan's Brown Classic Tabby Gr Ch Myaa Professor Higgins is a very stylish Oriental of overall quality. His pattern, though not perfectly formed, is dense and sound to the roots with the minimal of agouti invasion. He was a bit grumpy and totally fed-up with the proceedings! This chap impressed me greatly, so much so that he has now moved to Wales to join our cats!

Mrs S Bowen's Chocolate Silver Shaded male Gr Ch Smaug Mahican has a superb coat with superb light shading of good chocolate colour on a good silver ground. Unfortunately his overall type let him down in this standard of competition.

Miss S Robinson's Chocolate Tortie Gr Ch Pashtan Sabrina is an attractive female of excellent type. Unfortunatly she has a severe pinch and muzzle weakness which spoils her head. Coat colour not sound to the root.

Mrs S Bowen's Chocolate Tortie Smoke Choctaw Nahimanaweekowesa unfortunately lacks the type required at this level of competition.

NON SELF GRAND PREMIER MALE
1, UK GPC Lillington's GR PR SALASIM HOT FLASH 38d
A large stylish chap of overall excellence, there was absolutely no mistaking him for anything other than a Spotted and I had no hesitation awarding him BoB Spotted Tabby Neuter. Head of excellent type overall. Large ears of correct shape and set. Excellent top of head. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Profile a little angular. Excellent chin line (complete with beard!). Slight muzzle pinch but insufficient to spoil lines to wedge. Excellent long, fine body of correct Oriental type despite the obvious belly flap! Long elegant neck. Long elegant legs with dainty paws. Tail a little lacking in both length and taper. Coat of excellent texture and good length. Good intensity of colour to spots, very good pattern formation and definition, with spots sound to the roots and no agouti invasion. Certainly a delightful chap, shown in wonderful condition and with a delightful nature. He rolled around the table, rubbed noses, purred his head off and generally made a very good impression - he must be a joy to own!

2 Clements' GR PR MOJIQUE MERCURY 43s
A very large impressive gent lacking a little in the elegance department. A balanced head of very good type overall. Ears very good shape, size and set. Good profile and chin line. Muzzle showing pinch which spoils lines of wedge. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Neck rather short and thick. Large heavy body of fair type though rather deep in body and lacking length for balance. He also is a trifle plump which makes him even less elegant! Tail rather short. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent shading on clear silver ground with minimal tarnishing. A most attractive chap, but unfortunately he paid the penalty for his build and lack of elegance - and I sympathize with him! BoB Shaded Neuter - he just beat the Red Silver Shaded boy by less than a whisker.

3 Brown's CH & GR PR CLOUDBORN SHASTRI 45b
An old friend of mine who today really didn't seem to be enjoying himself. Overall he is an Oriental of fine elegant type. Ears of very good size shape and set. Excellent profile and chin line. Slight muzzle pinch but otherwise excellent lines to wedge. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Head carried on long fine neck. Excellent long body of elegant Oriental type. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent ticking though ground colour a little cold. Tail well ringed, good leg markings though I would like them to extend further down to the toes. A lovely cat shown in excellent muscular condition. Unfortunately he was very grumpy and didn't want to play, so unfortunately dropped down the placings.

NON SELF GRAND PREMIER FEMALE
1, UK GPC Royal's GR CH & GR PR CHELANCA GYPSY ROSE 45b
An elegant lady of overall excellence certainly looking in top form today. Head of overall excellence and balance. Large ears of excellent shape and set. Very good profile and firm chin. Excellent lines to wedge. Good green eyes of excellent shape and set. Elegant neck. Excellent length body of fine elegant Oriental type. Tail very good length and taper. Short close lying coat of very good texture showing excellent ticking, though rather cold colour at the roots. Very good leg, tail and facial markings. She was a rather grumpy lady, and her language was choice!

2 Rose's GR PR ONAPROMISE TOTAL ECLIPSE 42h
A nice type lady of correct Oriental type. Pleasing head overall. Ears of very good size and set. Muzzle showing pinch which spoils lines to wedge. Profile rather uneven, and chin shallow. Eyes a little large but of very good set and colour. Very good body type, very good length. Fine dainty legs and paws. Tail rather short for balance. Coat of very good length and texture but showing too much silver base and overall lacking in intensity of colour. Excellent temperament and condition.

ORIENTAL TICKED TABBY PREMIER MALE
1, GPC Duffy's PR CHELANCA BOMBADIER BOWMONT 45fn
A very attractive exhibit of overall excellent Oriental type. Ears very good shape size and set. Good profile. Very good lines to wedge overall despite slight muzzle pinch. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Body of very good length and correct type. Tail good length but needs better taper. Excellent long legs. Coat of very good length and texture. Excellent colour. Ticking of fair definition, but showing a rather deep base with very pale roots. A very attractive chap of overall excellence.

ORIENTAL TICKED TABBY PRE-PREMIER MALE
1, PC & BoB Stevens' JOYJEWEL DIAMOND CUT 45b
What a delight - a Chocolate Tabby of correct colouring! Ears of very good shape, size and setting. Skull rather flat resulting in an angular profile. Slight muzzle pinch spoiling lines to wedge. Eyes of very good shape and set. Excellent long fine elegant body of correct Oriental type. Excellent neck length. Long elegant limbs. Tail of excellent length but lacking taper. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent strongly defined chocolate ticking on warm chocolate base. A most attractive cat in excellent condition with a super temperament.

ORIENTAL SHADED PREMIER MALE
1, GPC Lillington's PR SALASIM DUNE 43ds
What a extremely handsome chap, of overall excellence in type and outstanding coat. Ears of excellent shape, size and set. Top of head rather too flat resulting in a rather angular profile, firm chin. Muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge. Eyes of superb shape and set. Excellent body length and type with fine legs and dainty paws. Tail needs to be longer and show better taper. Excellent short coat of very good texture. Excellent bright red shading on a wonderful clear silver ground. What a stunning coat this chap has. When it came to BoB I had to think long & hard, and I'm afraid he lost it by less than a whisker!

ORIENTAL SHADED PRE-PREMIER FEMALE
1, PC North's GR CH MOJIQUE MINNETTA 43s
A mature lady of overall good type, but lacking Oriental elegance. Ears of very good size, shape & set. Top of head rather flat and profile too angular. Muzzle rather weak under the eyes and lacking substance. Good green eyes of correct shape and set, though rather on the large side. Body type, even allowing for age, rather heavy and lacking elegance. Legs good length, paws rather heavy. Tail fair length. Coat of good length and texture. Very good shading. Silver ground rather dull and showing tarnishing to face & legs. Excellent temperament and condition, though maybe just a little portly.

ANGORA ADULT MALE
1, IC Berry's APRIKAT SKYRIDER 62 15
A really magnificent cat of outstanding Oriental type. Wonderful head of excellent type overall. Ears large and well set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile and chin line. Excellent muzzle. Excellent lines to wedge. Eyes of excellent size, shape & set. Long elegant body of true Oriental type. Long dainty limbs with neat paws. Tail a fraction short for perfection. Coat of excellent fine texture, but rather lacking in length and quantity. This magnificent chap was in excellent condition, but rather overawed by the noise and bustle of the show.

2 Smith's LORICHA MOGWAI 62 43bs
A very pleasing exhibit of correct type and coat qualities. Ears very good size shape and set. Excellent profile. Good firm chin. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Slight muzzle pinch. Body of very good length and type. Elegant legs and paws. Well balanced tail. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent plume. Excellent colour, pattern and quality of silver. An excellent tempered chap shown in superb condition.

ANGORA ADULT FEMALE
1, IC & BoB Emerton's LORICHA KADABRA 62 43n
This magnificent lady and I have met before, I was very impressed then, and I was again at this show. She certainly is an outstanding example of the breed. Head of true Oriental type and perfect balance. Ears of very good shape, size and set. Excellent profile, top of head, and chin line. Excellent lines to wedge. Green eyes of excellent size, shape and set. Body of elegant Oriental type, with perfect balance. Long elegant limbs. Superb fine textured coat of excellent length and in the right quantity. Stunning caramel colour and excellent shading. This lady is an outstanding example of the Variety. She has a lovely nature and shows superbly. Excellent condition. I take my hat off to her breeder and her owner.

2 Tasker's BUNDOOK OHN MAID 62 43n
Another very attractive youngster. This lady & I have also met before, I've not changed my opinion of her! Ears of very good shape, size and set. Very good profile overall, though showing slight dip. Strong chin. Slight muzzle pinch. Green eyes of very good size, shape and set. Very good fine body type, elegant legs and paws. Excellent coat length, just a little woolly textured. Excellent colour and shading. Another very beautiful exhibit shown in excellent condition. Excellent temperament. Such a pity she had to meet the winner, for she certainly is a worthy cat.

3 Norman & Johnson's PALANTIR PROPRLYTLMADAM 62 43hs
Only a week out of kitten classes this very pretty lady was at a disadvantage. Overall she is small, immature and lacking sufficient coat. Ears of excellent shape, size and set. Profile a little uneven. Slight muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge. Eyes of good shape but rather full. Body of good overall type but lacking in maturity. Elegant legs. Excellent tail length and taper. Excellent coat texture, though rather short. Wonderful colouring and superb silver base. An excellent tempered young lady shown in very good condition. She will be most attractive when she matures - at present she still looks a pretty kitten - and I do mean pretty!

4 Rice's MISTYTOR WYSIWYG 62 15 A very small female of overall fair type. Ears of fair shape and set, but rather small for balance. Excellent eye shape and set. Fair profile. Good muzzle and straight lines to wedge. Body very small for age, but of overall good type. Coat of good texture but lacking length. A very happy young lady who didn't half tell me a story! Though she is small she is in excellent condition.

ANGORA KITTEN FEMALE
1 Browning's PIPPASTRO SILVER CLOUD 62 18a A most attractive youngster of overall excellent type. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile and chin line. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent eye shape and set. Body of excellent Oriental type having length and elegance. Excellent fine legs. Tail long and finely tapered. Excellent coat texture, but rather short. Excellent colour and pattern. A superb tempered kitten shown in excellent condition.

ANGORA NEUTER FEMALE
1, IC Thorne's SIRONGYU BLACK PEARL 62 43s
A cat of medium Oriental type. Ears good shape and set. Profile a little angular. Good chin line. Eyes of correct set but rather full. Slight muzzle pinch. Body rather short and cobby in type lacking Oriental elegance. Tail short for balance. Coat of good length, rather harsh & woolly in texture. Excellent condition albeit a little plump, but hey can I talk! Excellent temperament. I considered withholding the IC but after some thought decided that she just reached IC standard - the purring helped!

ORIENTAL CARAMEL ASSESSMENT
Merit : Falconer's FINTONE PANCHO VILLA 37n
A cat of overall good type and very obviously Caramel in colour! Ears of very good size, shape and set. Good top of head, though a little flat in profile giving an angular profile. Good lines to wedge overall marred by muzzle pinch. Excellent green eyes of correct shape and set. Body of good length, but rather heavy in build. Tail short and lacking taper. Coat of very good length and texture, colour distinctly dark/cold caramel unfortunately not sound to the roots. A nice chap in good condition just up to Merit standard.

Merit : Fellows' KIMELPHA TARAMOJO 37n
Another chap of good balance and distinct Caramel colour. Balanced head overall. Ears good shape and set. Profile a little uneven. Excellent muzzle. Superb green eyes of excellent shape and set. Body of good Oriental type, excellent body length. Legs rather heavy. Good tail length but lacking taper. Excellent coat length and texture, very good colour but not sound to roots. A nice type chap, and taking into account the coat, just reaching the desired standard.

ORIENTAL SPOTTED TABBY KITTEN FEMALE
Mr & Mrs White's AIYAITCH AIDA was entered as a Black Tortie Spotted, unfortunately I could not identify a Spotted pattern, and on further examination of the coat came to the opinion that she was a Shaded, 43e.

ORIENTAL TICKED TABBY KITTEN MALE
1 Reynold's CHELANCA TALISKER 45d MN
What a charming little chap! Head of excellent shape overall. Large ears of excellent shape and set. Excellent top of head. Good profile. Slight muzzle pinch. Excellent eye shape and set, colour though green could be deeper. Very well grown for age and a little plump! Body of good length though rather heavy in build, as were the legs - of course he may well grow into them and be a big boy! Tail lacking a little in taper. Coat of good length and texture, in excellent condition. Very good colour, fairly distinct ticking. Showing rather too much white on chin. A nice chap, just a bit nervous.
