27th GCCF SUPREME SHOW

November 29th 2003

John S Harrison

I was delighted to be asked once again to judge in the Oriental Section at the Supreme Show. The Cat Fancy is indebted to Julia May and her team for once again producing such a spectacular show, and for presenting the GCCF and the UK Cat Fancy in such a professional manner - but knowing Julia one would expect nothing less. With the loss of sponsorship putting on the show must have been a little difficult, but on the floor I certainly didn't have anything to complain of!

I am very grateful to Mark Parkinson my Chief Steward and to Jennifer Fleming and Janet Tonkinson for collecting, carrying, and handling the cats so very well and allowing the judging to proceed with the minimum of delay.

Best of Variety Oriental Kitten
I was very pleased to judge Best of Variety Oriental Kitten, some very attractive youngsters came before me and this certainly gives great hope for the future. BoV Kitten was Mrs P Browning's PIPPASTRO MOONLIGHTSHADOW a very attractive Oriental Longhair who was not at first sight my chosen kitten … however she was not going to be ignored and convinced me that she was the best! What a temperament … she must be great fun to have around the house ….. or on the other hand she might drive you to distraction!! A very promising youngster of superb type, lacking just a little in coat at the present. She was certainly well worthy of the award, a real pleasure to judge her.

Foreign White Kitten Male
1 & BoB Royal's MICHANT WHITE ROYAL
A kitten of exceptional Oriental type. Ears of excellent shape and size, perfectly set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent bite & chin. Excellent eye shape set & colour. Excellent body type, long and fine with balanced legs. Tail a little short for perfection. Coat of good length, close lying and excellent texture. Excellent condition and presentation. He was a happy chappie in the morning and really enjoyed the attention but unfortunately when he came back into the ring for BOV judging he was very fractious and really didn't want to play. This was extremely unfortunate because he is an outstanding example of both the Foreign White and the Oriental and certainly warranted a much higher award - during my time as a Judge I can think of few, if any, more promising kittens. He is an asset to the breed.

Oriental Blue Kitten Male
1 Kilmartin's NITERAP HIGH FLYER
A kitten of overall pleasing type. Head a little short for balance. Ears good size and well set. Good top of head. Eyes a little large and rather full though the set appeared correct. Good green colour. Good profile, correct bite & firm chin. Body of good length. Long tapered tail, balanced legs. Coat a little long, good texture. Colour rather dark, not sound to the roots and showing a considerable amount of 'speckling'.

Oriental Blue Kitten Female
1 & BoB Bennett's CYMRUCATH GWERFYL
A kitten of excellent body type overall and very good colour. Ears large and well set. Eyes correctly set but rather full. Fairly good profile. Muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge, hope this is transitory. Excellent long slender and elegant body with perfectly balanced legs. Excellent tail length with correct taper. Excellent coat length and texture of very good even blue, AND almost entirely sound to the roots. A very promising kitten indeed.

Havana Kitten Male
1 & BoB Earnshaw's SMOOTHASILK MRTOFFELEES
A well grown masculine kitten overall rather dark in colour. Ears of good shape size and set. Profile a little uneven. Good lines to wedge. Light green eyes of good shape, size and set. Good length body. Limbs just a littler heavy. Tail needs better length and taper. Coat of good length and texture, very dark in colour and almost sound to the roots. A very attractive lad with lots of promise, just a pity he's so dark in colour … but his other qualities may well carry that.

Havana Kitten Female
1 Boddy's SEETEEZ WHITERABBITS
A very elegant kitten of excellent rich colour. Ears excellent shape and set. Good profile overall though showing a distinct depression. Muzzle shows severe pinch. Eyes good shape and set. Excellent body type, very fine and elegant. Excellent long whip tail. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent rich colouring, but unfortunately it is very unsound.

Oriental Cinnamon Kitten Female
1 BoB n/a Keane's ADTRESH MYDELILAH
A very elegant kitten to look at, but unfortunately she was a grumpy little madam and didn't do herself any favours! Ears of fair size, shape & set. Good eye shape and size. Fair profile. Muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge. Body of very good type overall. Long slender body, elegant legs, dainty paws. Tail of excellent length and taper. Excellent coat length and texture, fairly good colour but very unsound.

Oriental Cream or Apricot Kitten Male
1 & BoB Klokow's SKYBLUEPINK ZIMMY
A large well grown kitten of good overall type. Ears good shape and set. Profile a little angular. Needs better lines to wedge. Good eye shape and set. Body of good length though rather heavy in build. Coat good length and fair texture, colour good but showing very heavy pattern.

AOC Self Oriental Shorthair Grand Premier Male
1 & UK GR PR Waring's CH & GR PR MIRYOKU MIDSUMMER MAGIC 29
This really is an exceptional example of the breed. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Eyes excellent shape and set. Profile just a little angular. Excellent body length with balanced legs and tail. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent rich colour and almost sound to the roots. This chap has always been a favourite of mine, he is a wonderful example of the Variety and though he's now beginning to show his age he can still hold his own in strong competition - but unfortunately when it came to BoB he just lost out.

2 & BoB Gregory's GR PR FILANJO BRONZE KING 37d
A most attractive exhibit. Ears good size and shape, reasonably set but unfortunately carried rather too upright. Slight muzzle pinch. Good profile. Body of very good length and correct Oriental type. Balanced legs. Tail a little short and lacking sufficient taper. Coat of very good texture, a little long for perfection. Excellent even colour, sound to the roots and showing minimal markings. A superb friendly natured chap.

3 Clark's GR PR LANDICAN FIREFOX 37d
A very attractive cat of overall excellent type. Ears of good size, shape and set. Skull just a little flat giving an angular profile. Very good chin. Excellent lines to wedge. Eyes good shape and set. Excellent body length. Well balanced legs. Tail rtatyher short for balance. Excellent coat length and texture. Very good colour with minimal markings. Excellent condition and temperament.

AOC Self Oriental Shorthair Grand Premier Female
1, UK GR PR & BoB Webster's GR PR GINGERBREAD LILAC CASCADE 29c
A superb older exhibit with the true soft lilac colouring of the original Foreign Lavenders. Excellent ear shape, size and set. Skull rather flat. Good lines to wedge. Excellent eye shape and set. Body of good length and surprising elegance for age. Slender dainty legs. Tail a little short for perfection. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent warm even colour. An excellent example of the variety of quite exceptional colour.

2 Burnett's CH & GR PR KEELOKAN KATIE KAOS 29
Ears of good size, shape & set with good width between. Skull rather flat and profile uneven. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent chin, bite rather untidy. Body of good length, just a little portly. Tail short for balance. Coat of very good length and texture, rich colour but rather unsound. A very pleasing exhibit with an excellent temperament. Would look so much better if she lost a bit of weight.

Havana Premier Male
1 Gr Pr Cogan's PR FIORDILISIO SUNDANCE KID
A very grumpy unhappy chap who didn't show to advantage. Ears good size, shape and set. Eyes good size, well set. Very good lines to wedge. Profile a little angular. Excellent body type. Excellent whip tail. Coat of excellent length and texture, excellent colour and sound to the roots.

Havana Pre-Premier Male
1, PC & BoB Wilding's UK GR CH AMENRA BEAU BRUIN
This chap really is a stunning example of the breed. He is a large, strongly built, masculine exhibit with considerable elegance and presence. He has an almost perfect head. Ears of excellent shape and set. Excellent profile. Brilliant green eyes (even in the orange hall lighting) of perfect size, shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent chin. Excellent body length, well muscled and very masculine in type. Tail a little short for balance. Coat of excellent length and texture, excellent colour though not quite sound to the roots. Excellent temperament and condition. This is a superb Havana by any standard! I was delighted that he went on to be BoV Neuter, adding yet another win to his already very impressive collection. Congratulations to his breeder Carol Ward and to his owner Pam Wilding.

2 Morrison's ADTRESH BUSTERBROWN
Ears of good size, shape and set, needing just a little more width between. Good profile. Good lines to wedge. Eyes of good shape and set. Excellent fine elegant body. Long slender legs with very neat paws. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent rich colour almost sound to the roots. A very good example of the breed and very unlucky to meet the winner, in other company I feel he'd have romped away with the PC … bad luck! Excellent temperament and condition.

Oriental Lilac Premier Male
1 Gr Pr n/a Pruss' PR SHERMESE ARCTIC MIST
An elegant exhibit, but head shows exaggeration of type. Ears of good size and shape but set too low. Good profile. Severe muzzle pinch. Bite under shot. Eyes good shape. Excellent body length, very fine and slender. Excellent legs and tail. Coat of excellent length and correct texture, very good colour but not sound to roots. A delightful tempered chap shown in excellent conition, unfortunately head faults preclude award of GPC.

CNH : Phillips' PR ADMEWSH SIMMIESUN

Oriental Cinnamon Pre-Premier Male
1 PC n/a Hirst's CH GINNISTAM TALIESIN
A rather heavy cat of ggood colour. Ears good shape and set. Excellent green eyes of good shape. Fair profile, skull rather flat and uneven. Chin rather shallow. Muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge. Body of fair length but very heavy in build, Tail needs better taper. A little less weight would be a distinct advantage. Excellent short close lying coat of correct texture. Good colour but not sound to roots.

Oriental Red Premier Male
1 Gr Pr Drimmie's PR ADMEWSH NUTROSTARKILMOUSI
A very pleasing exhibit overall. Head of very good type though ears are a little small for balance. Very good profile. Excellent muzzle with perfect lines to wedge. Excellent eye shape and set. Body of very good Oriental type, excellent length. Very good legs and paws. Coat of very good texture, just a little long for perfection. Excellent rich colour. A very attractive chap

A superb natured chap …. Somewhat overweight with a delightful temperament. Superb head. Ears large and well set. Good profile. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Good body length with balance legs and tail. Unfortunately he is very overweight and lacks elegance. Coat of very good length and texture. Excellent colour almost sound to the roots. What a lovely chap.
