28th GCCF SUPREME SHOW
November 20th 2004
John S Harrison
I was delighted to be asked once again to judge at the
Supreme Show. As one has come to expect Julia May and her team once again
produced a show that was a credit to the GCCF and the UK Cat Fancy. The show
was superbly organised and I would like Mr Allgood our Ring Supervisor not only
for the excellent organisation within the ring, but also for the enjoyable
banter!
I am very grateful to Mark Parkinson my Chief Steward and to
Michelle Linton and Dougie Payne for their hard work and especially for
handling the cats with so much care and allowing the judging to proceed with
the minimum of delay. I am also grateful to Mrs James and Mr & Mrs Hill for
helping out with the BoV Neuter judging.
Best of Variety Oriental
Neuter
I was pleased to judge Best of Variety Oriental Neuter and
somewhat astounded that 16 cats came forward for me to judge! I examined each
cat and reduced them to six, finally ending with 3 superb exhibits, these being
Ms Pauline Fowler's Caramel Shaded boy Gr Ch & Gr Pr Piena
Sydneynotaspot; Mrs Sue Miller's Black Tortie UK Gr Ch Pashtan
Sabrina, and Mrs J Peevor's Red Tabby Oriental Longhair Chantaur Fire
Fox. Any of these three super cats could easily have taken the top award,
but after a bit of head scratching I finally decided on the Caramel Shaded,
Gr Ch & Gr Pr Piena Sydneynotaspot, which seemed to be a very
popular win.
AOC Self Oriental Shorthair Grand Champion Male
1 UK GCC & BoB Holdsworth's Gr Ch Westgarth Sorcerers Secret 37d
This chap really is a dramatic exhibit with both correct Oriental type
& balance, and very good colour. A large masculine cat of correct Oriental
type and elegance. Excellent head type. Ears of excellent size, shape and set.
Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Light green eyes of excellent shape
and set. Good bite and excellent firm chin. Excellent strong masculine body,
carrying just a little too much weight. Stands tall on long slender legs with
neat paws. Tail of good length with adequate taper. Coat of very good length
and fine texture. Good even red colouring with minimal markings in evidence.
How lovely to see a red with a fully coloured chin! Shown in excellent
condition (allowing for weight). Excellent temperament, a real pleasure to
handle. A cat of excellent all round qualities. Pleased to award him the UK
Grand.
2 Boddy's Gr Ch Tazkindi Zinfandel 29
A strong well
developed male of overall excellent type. Head of overall excellence. Ears
large and correctly set. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent profile. Excellent
green eyes of correct Oriental shape and set. Body of very good length,
strongly built and of elegant type. Long slender limbs with very neat paws.
Tail fairly well tapered but rather short for balance. Coat of very good length
and texture, very good colour but showing very heavy spotted tabby ghosting and
very unsound. A really attractive cat but unfortunately the very unsound coat
has to be taken into account. Superb temperament and shown in excellent
condition.
3 Tonkinson's Gr Ch Tenaj Mystyko 29c
A rather
slight finely built male lacking the masculinity of the first two cats. Ears of
good size and shape, correctly set. Skull rather flat resulting in an angular
profile. Correct bite but chin a little shallow. Light green eyes of very good
shape and set, correct size for head. Body of very good length, with just a
slightly plump tummy! Legs very fine and elegant with superb neat rounded paws.
Tail of good length and taper. Coat of very good length and texture, colour a
little uneven. Unfortunately he was a bit of a timid beastie and didn't really
show to best advantage. Very good condition.
Havana, Champion
Female
1 GCC & BoB Bull's Ch Hotpot Whiterose Star
A
very elegant female of excellent Oriental type. Ears very good size and shape,
well set. Skull very uneven, though very good in profile overall. Clear green
eyes of very good shape and set. Slight muzzle pinch which spoils the lines to
the wedge. Body of excellent fine Oriental type. Slender legs with very neat
paws. Elegant neck. Very good body length. Excellent tail length and taper.
Coat of very good length, just a little harsh in texture. Good colour overall
though not quite sound to the skin. A very elegant exhibit of good overall type
which I felt outweighed her faults and I was happy to award the Grand. My
stewards found great amusement in the fact that though she was really happy
with them and was happy to purr cheerfully when she looked at me she changed
completely and fixed me with that 'I'll get you' look! It was quite
obvious that she really didn't like me at all!!
Havana Pre-Champion
Female
1 CCn/a Allison's Tieke Kaikoura Shimada.
Overall a
cat of medium Oriental type lacking in 'style'. Ears rather small, correct
shape and fairly well set. Fair profile. Chin rathewr shallow. Fair green eyes
of reasonable shape and set. Body of good length with balanced legs and tail.
Coat of very good length and excellent texture which was beautifully prepared.
Excellent rich brown in colour but unfortunately very unsound. She was a rather
timid little soul, not really enjoying the day, and generally not quite up to
CC standard.
Oriental Lilac Champion Female
1 GCC Haggar's
Ch Seido Seventhheaven
A fine dainty female of overall good Oriental
type. Ears of very good size carried just fractionally high. Good top of head.
Very pleasing profile. Eyes good size, shape and set, a clear light green in
colour. Correct bite and excellent square chin line. Body of good length, fine
and elegant overall despite the rather portly tummy! Stands tall on fine dainty
limbs. Good tail length and taper. Coat of very good length and texture, and
though it is a little unsound is a most delightful soft lilac colour. A
delightful friendly lady of exquisite colour and such elegant type. Pleased to
award her the grand.
2 Marston's Ch Styperson Tiger Lily
A
pleasing female of good overall Oriental type. Head of good shape. Ears of good
size shape and set. Profile rather uneven with bump on the nose. Chin rather
shallow but the bite was correct. Green eyes og good shape and set though they
were a little large. Body of good length and fine type with elegant limbs, paws
just a little too long. Tail of good length and well tapered. Coat of excellent
texture and length. Colour not sound to the roots and a little dark in colour.
A lovely natured cat shown in excellent condition.
Oriental Lilac
Pre-Champion Male
1, CC & BoB Tarbox's Tijanmeek
Shogunchallenge
At only just 9 months he is an extremely promising
youngster of overall excellent type and with an excellent head. Ears of
excellent shape, size and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile.
Excellent eye shape and set, and an excellent bright green colour. Good bite
and firm chin. Just a slight pinch which mars otherwise straight lines to the
wedge. Excellent long body of correct Oriental type. Long slender legs. Tail of
good length and taper. Coat of very good length and texture, very good lilac
colour, almost, but not quite, sound to the roots. A most delightful exhibit
showing very great promise. Excellent temperament and condition. A pleasure to
award the CC
I think we shall hear a lot more of this chap!
Oriental Spotted Tabby Kitten Male
1 & BoB Lund's
Merrytail Judah 38a
A kitten of truly outstanding type who I have
commented on before! Head of excellent type. Ears large, wide based and
perfectly set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Perfect bite and good
firm chin. Excellent eye shape and set, clear green in colour. Excellent body
type overall. Long slender body carried on long strong yet elegant legs.
Excellent tail length, well tapered, just a slightest thickening at the tip.
Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent pattern formation, good colour
on correct coloured ground, sadly with age the pattern is becoming a little
indistinct. A really superb kitten of overall excellence and so well grown for
his age. Shown in excellent condition, and what a really happy little chap he
is! As far as I'm concerned this is definitely a kitten to drool over! What a
delight to judge.
2 Hudson's Shadowsquad Chianti 38f Another
kitten of excellent type, so unlucky to meet the winner. Ears very good shape
and set. Very good profile. Eyes of good shape and set, far colour. Very good
lines to wedge. Correct bite and good chin. Body of very good type and
excellent length carried on long slender legs. Excellent tail length and taper,
just a little thick at the tip. Coat of vewry good length and texture, good
even cream colour. Unfortunately his pattern, which is rather elongated, is
rather superficial and I suspect that he may well need a registration amendment
to Shaded. A really pleasing lad.
Oriental Ticked Kitten Female
1 & BoB Chown's Smaug Tadachow Astrielle 45b
A rather
nervous kitten and a little difficult to handle, there was no sign of any
nastiness, she really didn't enjoy her day at all. Ears of excellent size and
set. Very good profile overall, just a little flat on the forehead. Eyes of
good shape, but rather full, good green colour. Very good bite and chin line.
Body of very good type, just a little plump. Because she was so tense it was
difficult to assess. Good slim legs, well tapered tail. Coat of good length and
texture, very good chocolate ticking on correct ground colour. A very
attractive kitten of good type, such a shame she was so nervous and didn't show
herself to advantage.
Oriental Shaded Kitten Male
1 &
BoB Hardwick's Smaug Jong Yill 43ns
A superb kitten of excellent
type and outstanding coat quality. Ears of excellent size, shape and set.
Excellent top of head and profile. Good chin line, correct bite. Eyes excellent
shape, size and set, fair colour. Excellent neck. Long muscular body of very
good type. Legs very good length. Tail a little short for balance and needing
better taper. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent shading - perfect
tipping on correct coloured ground. An excellent kitten with a faultless
pattern. Shown in excellent condition, but goodness what a grumbler!
Oriental Smoke Kitten Female
1 & BoB Thorne's Tolemac
Touchoftortie 42e
A kitten of adequate Oriental type but excelling in
coat colour. Ears a little small for perfection. Profile a little too angular.
Good bite and firm chin. Muzzle showing severe pinch spoiling the lines to the
wedge. Good green eyes just a little full. Body a little cobby, needing more
length. Tail also lacking length and requiring better taper. Coat perhaps a
little long but of excellent texture. Excellent clear silver base with very
good rich tortie colouring over it. Though lacking a little in type this
youngster has such a superb Smoke coat that I felt justified in awarding the
BoB. Delightful temperament and very good condition.
Oriental
Longhair Kitten Female
1 & BoB Berry's Pippastro
Peaceblossom 62 43bs A really delightful kitten of excellent Oriental type,
very well marked and superb colour. Ears very good size, shape and set. Profile
a little uneven with dip to nose. Eyes very good size shape and set, very good
green colour. Correct bite, good level chin line. Excellent long fine elegant
body. Long slender legs, dainty paws. Tail just a little short for perfection.
Coat of excellent texture, just a little sparse at the minute. Good even
shading, correct colour on excellent silver ground. A very attractive kitten,
needs just that little more coat length.
2 Smyth's Aprikat Silver
Petticoats 62 43s
A large well grown kitten of good overall type. Ears
large and well set with good width between. Profile very uneven. Eyes a little
full, but of correct set, good green colour. Very good lines to wedge.
Excellent body type, legs and paws just a little heavy for balance. Tail a
little short. Excellent coat texture, just a little short. Fair shading, but
silver ground rather cloudy. A very attractive female of good type. Excellent
condition and temperament.
Havana Pre-Premier Male Neuter - Counter
signature
Mr & Mrs Hall's Hotpot Return Visit.
I was
asked countersign the Premier Certificate awarded to this exhibit.
Unfortunately he was very disgruntled and handled with great difficulty loudly
expressing his contempt! He is a very flashy exhibit of overall good type
though his eyes were rather exaggerated and deeply set. His coat colour is
exceptionally dark, so much so that in the hall lighting he appeared to be
black, and it did not appear sound to the roots - I would have liked to have
taken him to the daylight lamp but feared this would be a step too far.
Unfortunately I felt unable to countersign the certificate.
