Humberside Cat Club

28th June 2003

My thanks to Show Managers Judy Walsh & Penny Akehurst and their Committee for inviting me to judge once again. Unfortunately due to domestic circumstances I had to travel over to the show in the morning, and by sheer stupidity left the show minus the bag containing my cheque books, credit cards, wallet etc …. I am so grateful to Penny not only for rescuing the bag but sending it back to me so quickly …. many thanks Penny, obviously my mind was elsewhere. Thanks also to Section Manager Mandy Goreham for keeping me supplied with water and collecting my slips .. what a gem!

In the absence of my Mother I judged several of her Open classes, I hope exhibitors were not too disappointed with the change of judge.

Asian Smoke or Burmilla Adult Male
1 Gillies' BALLEGO FOLLOWTHESUN 72/43fns (12mths)
Head of good overall type. Ears of good shape and set, but just a fraction small for balance. Good top of head. Good profile with nose of good length. Excellent muscular body type. Balanced legs and tail. Eyes rather too oriental in shape and setting, and rather too orange in colour. Coat of excellent length and texture overall, having said this I was concerned that the coat on his neck and shoulders was sparse and the skin appeared to be inflamed with some evidence of broken skin and as a consequence I sought the advice of the Duty Vet. There was a lot to like about this chap but I felt that on the day the award of a certificate was unjustified.

Asian Smoke or Burmilla Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Holt & Higgins' NEMOREZ THEDRAGONESS 72/43bsq (2years)
What a stunning female …. She really is most impressive! Head of overall excellence. Ears of excellent shape, size and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile though to quibble her nose might be just a fraction long. Light green eyes of excellent size and shape. Excellent body type, tail possibly a fraction short for perfect balance. Coat of excellent texture, could maybe be a fraction shorter. Excellent colour, shading restricted to hair tips giving a delightful light effect. Excellent silver ground. Excellent condition and a temperament which meant she could not be ignored! This lady really did impress me and I would offer my congratulations to owner/breeders for producing this little beauty.

2 Gillies' BALLEGO LADYDJ 72/43ps (12 mnth)
Head of very good overall type. Ears of good shape and size, correctly set. Good top of head. Excellent profile showing nose of excellent length. Eyes very good size and shape. Muzzle a trifle square. Excellent body type. Coat of excellent length and texture. Very good shading on good silver ground, though I would prefer to see more definition to the apricot colour. A delightful exhibit, pity she had to meet the winner.

Asian Tabby Adult Female
Not as Registered: Gillies' BALLEGO DENIZYILDIZI (10 mnth)
Unfortunately this lass was entered as a 72/45sq, whilst I appreciate that she is of 'ticked' form she is clearly now a Shaded and requires re-registering as 72/43sq - there being no ticking showing in the coat, with all colour being limited to the tips. As a Burmilla she is most certainly of CC standard. Sorry I know that's no consolation! A cat of overall excellent type. Ears very good shape and size, very well set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Green eyes of excellent size and shape. Coat of very good length and texture, correct colour tipping on ground of clear silver. A very promising youngster - sorry I couldn't give her a CC.

BoB: Devereaux' CH RAINSONG LIAM MEESON 72/45b (14 mnth)
A most striking cat of excellent rich colouring. Excellent head and body type. My only criticism is that his coat could be a little shorter. A beautiful cat well deserving BoB.

Oriental Cream or Apricot Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Klokow's CH BAKENEKO NO WORRIES 37fn (4yrs)
Ears of excellent shape and size, correctly set. Good profile, chin just a little shallow. Excellent lines to wedge overall, though she would persist in blowing out her whisker-pads! Green eyes of very good shape and set. Excellent body type, well balanced legs, tail could be little finer. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent colour though not quite sound to the roots. Well deserving of CC & BoB.

Oriental Blue Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Debowska's UNOWHOSE REBELLE (2yr 2mnth)
Ears of good shape and size, correctly set. Very good top of head. Excellent profile though chin a little shallow. Muzzle showing severe pinch. Excellent body length and type. Slender limbs. Tail a little short though well tapered. Coat of excellent length and texture, colour rather dark and not quite sound to the roots. Overall an attractive cat and I felt justified in awarding CC & BoB.

Oriental Cinnamon Adult Male
1 CC & BoB Hirst's CH GINNISTAM TALIESIN (14 mnths)
Strong masculine exhibit. Large ears of very good shape and set. Top of head rather flat spoiling the overall profile. Chin lacking depth. Muzzle showing slight pinch. Light green eyes of good shape and set. Excellent body type, strong limbs, long well tapered tail. Excellent coat length and texture, very good colour overall but showing signs of sun-bleach. A nice chap well worthy of CC & BoB.

Oriental Tortoiseshell Adult Female
1 Hudson's CH SHADOWSQUAD CAMILLA 37e (14 mnths)
Head too long overall and lacking sufficient width for the length. Well set ears of excellent size and shape. Top of head to flat resulting in an angular profile with a change of direction at the brow. Eyes of exaggerated shape set, rather too narrow. Excellent body type with superb length and refinement. Excellent long slender legs, very neat paws. Long whipped tail with terminal defect. Very good coat length and texture, coloured down to the roots, needs a little more red/cream colour. Unfortunately exaggeration of head and tail defect preclude award of CC.

Oriental Cinnamon Neuter Male
1 Hirst's PR GINNISTAM MOCCASIN (2yr 9mnth)
What an excellent temperament this chap has - he certainly can't be ignored and we had quite a jolly conversation! Large ears of very good shape and set. Profile very uneven. Eyes of very good shape and set, but rather yellow in colour. Excellent strong body type, possibly a bit too much padding - but then who am I to talk! Coat of excellent length and texture, pleasing colour overall but not sound to the roots. The mis-coloured 'shield' on his back, albeit the result of damage, does detract. Overall a nice chap but I could not overlook either his profile or coat.

Oriental Tortoiseshell Neuter Female
1 Church's SHOWBIZ SHEWHOMUSTBEOBED 37h (14 mnths)
Large ears of very good shape and set. Top of head too flat. Profile overall far too angular. Bite undershot. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Body rather cobby in type and obviously well fed. Coat of excellent length and texture, good colour and totally sound to the roots. Excellent temperament & condition.
