ORIENTAL CAT ASSOCIATION

16th June 2001

John S Harrison

My thanks to the Committee for inviting me to Judge once again at 'the' Oriental show which has always been a favourite show of mine - not least because it was the first show at which I judged, held in Colchester in those days. My thanks to Mark for stewarding for me.

I was very disappointed that Mrs Betty Harrison, the Association's President, who has done so much for both the breed and the OCA over the past 34 years, was not at the Show. I know that she would have enjoyed judging, and I think would have approved of my placings in the Female Grand.

Oriental Grand Female

GCC Lee's CH SKWIGLEE IZADORA 37k By no means a 'flashy' cat this exhibit is of overall excellent Oriental type, with no hint of exaggeration. This delightful little lady was rather timid but a little time spent gaining her confidence was well worth the effort. Ears of very good size, shape and set, though until she relaxed they did appear to be a little upright. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile with good chin line. Brilliant green eyes of excellent shape, size and set, with that perfect expression which so becomes an Oriental. Excellent body type. Elegant legs and long whipped tail. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent colour showing the absolute minimum of ghosting, though for perfection it could be just a little more sound. She is a shy little beastie and needed just that little extra time and care to get her to show herself to best advantage. I had no hesitation in awarding her the Grand - a well deserving exhibit and a fine example of the variety. I see from the catalogue that her dad is another moggie I've always admired! Congratulations to owner/breeder.

Res Cassar-Simmond's CH ADENTISH FIORDALISIO 37g Ears of excellent shape and set. Very good profile. Muzzle a little fine and chin rather shallow. Eyes of very good colour and though of correct setting were rather full. Excellent body length and type with balanced legs and tail. Coat of good length but a little harsh in texture which seems to go hand in hand with the dark blue coloration. An attractive and stylish exhibit.

Bauerfeind's GR CH SHIMILEETA MAGICPRINCESS. 35 A delightful old lady who as a result of her age now lacks the required Oriental elegance. Ears of good size shape and set. Skull rather flat. Very good eye shape. Excellent strong muzzle with the most beautiful nose shape! Body type rather heavy and tail lacking length. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent presentation.

Blair's CH ZOLYN AWHITERSHADEOFPALE. 35 Ears rather upright in set and lacking sufficient width between. Profile very uneven. Body of fine type with balanced legs. Coat of fair length but rather discoloured and open.

Clifford's CH STOXHILL MOODYBLUES. 37a Head rather small for balance. Ears good shape and set. Profile uneven. Eyes very full. Head a little short with weak muzzle. Coat of good texture but a little long. Colour rather uneven.

Turner's CH MIDAMIST DANCINGSPANGLES. 37e A most grumpy lady. Ears of correct shape and set. Skull flat with angular profile. Eyes of good shape and set. Fair lines to wedge. Fair body type. Coat a little long. Excellent colour and totally sound to the roots - one of the soundest coats I've seen for a long while.

Oriental Ticked Tabby Female

2. 1 & CC N/A Singleton's INCHINDAR HEAVENSENT. 45es. 23/7/99 I was dismayed by this exhibit which looked and sounded like a six month old kitten. I cannot recollect ever seeing such a small immature 22 month old exhibit. Overall of poor Oriental type. Coat showing excellent clear ticking, on an excellent silver base.

Not as Registered: Chown's TADACHOW CHARLENE. 45p. 5/8/00. A very attractive exhibit of excellent Caramel colour. Unfortunately this exhibit is not a Ticked Tabby, but is most definitely a Shaded, albeit of ticked pattern base. Eyes of very poor colouring.

Oriental Assessment (Self) Adult

Merit not awarded: Avery's LIPEMA CRUSADER 37n Head of overall very good shape with pleasing profile. Unfortunately the ear set is far too low, and the ears are held pointing downwards. Eyes rather small for balance and rather horizontal in set. Body of excellent oriental type and length. Tail of good length but blunt at the tip. Coat showing rather heavy ghosting but of excellent caramel colour and sound to the roots. Excellent condition and presentation - and what a friendly chap!

Oriental Lilac Female Neuter

1 PC & BoB Webster's CH & PR NANPEMA HOLLYBERRY. 29c. 25/12/97 Head of very good shape overall. Ears of excellent size, shape and setting. Excellent green eyes of wonderful shape and size with perfect set. Excellent long body with balanced legs and tail. Coat of good texture, just a trifle long, and of excellent colour. Well worthy of PC.

2 Trend's CHIKUAI NADIRA AMETHYST. 29c. 28/02/00 Head of very good shape with excellent lines to the wedge. Excellent profile. Large well set ears. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Body rather heavy in type. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent colour. Ran winner very close.

3 Bailey's AMBERDORE ANJULI. 29c 12/09/97 Head of fair type. Skull rather too flat. Eyes of fair shape, rather poor green in colour. Fair body type. Tail short and lacking taper. Coat of fair length and texture. Fair colour.

Oriental Tortie Neuter

1 PC N/A Parsley's CH & PR WHIPPLEWIND ALEXANDERITE. 37e. 5/9/96. Head of fairlygood shape overall. Ears of good size but too upright in set. Fair profile. Excellent green eyes of good shape and set. Body just a little heavy and lacking elegance, tail short and lacking taper. Excellent coat length and texture. Colour needing a little more red/cream, but totally sound to the roots - one of the soundest coats I can remember seeing.

I would like to mention an exhibit which really caught my eye, this being the Caramel Shaded Angora female LORICHA KADABRA. This very attractive lady has all the attributes I look for in an Angora - she has correct Oriental type without being flashy, and all the frills in the right places! Certainly a cat of quality - and what wonderful coloration - I have to say she was undoubtedly the best exhibit I judged on the day! I congratulate her owner on her presentation and condition; and her breeder Mrs Sylvia Smith - Sylvia I'd say you seem to have cracked it!!!
