ORIENTAL CAT ASSOCIATION

15th June 2002

John S Harrison

It was a great pleasure to judge once again at this, the premiere show, of Orientals. My thanks to the Committee for inviting me to judge. Unfortunately as the consequence of a week in hospital following a dislocated hip, and a spell in Coronary Care for good measure, the President, Mrs Betty Harrison, was unable to attend, I took over all her classes - I hope exhibitors were not too disappointed. I was delighted once more to have Barbara Fellows as my steward - the company of such a good friend made the day all the more enjoyable. Thanks Barbara.

GRAND CHAMPION - FEMALE
Grand Challenge Certificate: Greatorex' CH MEWZISHUN ALLA MARCIA 29
A young female of overall excellence - this little lady has all the looks required in a top quality Havana - and this she most certainly is. Excellent balanced head. Ears of excellent size shape and set with correct width between. Excellent top of head. Green eyes of excellent shape size and set. Excellent profile, even bite and firm chin. Excellent body type overall. Tail a little short for balance. Elegant paws. Coat of excellent texture, though for perfection could be a little shorter. Excellent rich brown colour with warmth. Some very slight ghosting in evidence. Colour not quite sound to the root. Excellent condition and temperament. This very attractive female won a strong class and well deserved the Grand, she is certainly a quality exhibit with no exaggerations of head type. Congratulations to her owner / breeder.

Reserve Grand Challenge Certificate: Clifford's CH CINNSIORA MADHULA 37k
This lady was of very similar type to the above, and was certainly most unfortunate to have to compete with her. Excellent head shape. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent even profile. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type. Tail needing a little more length and taper. Coat of rich even colour and of excellent length and texture. Excellent condition & temperament. Such a pity there was only one Grand!

Bauerfeind's GR CH SHIMILEETA MAGICPRINCESS 35
Unfortunately Judges are supposed to judge the cat on the day not retrospectively. In her day this lovely old cat was a fine example of the breed but unfortunately age has caught up with her.

Robinson's GR CH PASHTAN SABRINA 37h
Ears of very good size and shape perfectly set with an excellent top of head. Good profile. Eyes of good set but a little pale in colour. Muzzle very square showing severe pinch, which totally spoils the wedge. Body of good length and type. Coat good length and texture. Colour rather cool toned and not quite sound to the root.

Parkinson's GR CH SMAUG MINNIE THEMINX 42e
A grumpy cat of good overall type. Head a little short for balance. Ears good shape and set, fair profile. Muzzle pinch spoils lines to wedge. Eyes large and full. Good body type. Coat of good length and texture. Colour rather even and lacking the degree and crispness of smoke required.

Havana, Adult Male
1 CC & BoB Wilding's GR CH AMENRA BEAU BRUIN 29 15-04-99
What a super strong masculine chap this exhibit is …… certainly a firm well muscled body! Excellent head shape. Excellent top of head. Excellent ears. Excellent lines to wedge. Eyes of good colour. Very good profile. Excellent body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Very good rich colour, just a little unsound. Yes I think I liked him!! Certainly a cat of excellence.

Considered for BoB : Cassar-Simmonds CH WESTGARTH SUNDANCE Rather a stroppy chap who did himself no favours.

Havana, Adult Female
1 CC Greatorex' CH MEWZISHUN ALLA MARCIA 29 30-04-01

2 Newland's SHANTOGA CANICULA 29 17-07-01
Head of good overall type. Very good lines to wedge. Good profile, perfect bite and excellent chin line. Ears of very good shape and set. Eyes good shape and set but orange in colour. Good body type. Coat good length and texture, pleasing colour but unfortunately very unsound.

Oriental Lilac, Adult Male
1 CC Tonkinson's CH TENAJ MYSTYKO 29c 23-11-99
Head of very good shape overall. Large well set ears with excellent top of head. Very good profile. Good chin, bite a little untidy. Excellent eye shape and set, pale green in colour. Excellent body type, though needs a little more length to tail for perfect balance. Coat of very good length and texture. Excellent soft lilac colour. A most attractive cat indeed and certainly well deserving of the CC.

2 Blairs' ZOLYN TIPTOP TYKE 29c 07-05-01
Head too long and narrow with very severe muzzle pinch. Ears fair shape and set. Eyes fair shape, and of poor colour. Fair body type but rather thin and lacking muscle. Coat of fair texture, dark cold lilac in colour and very unsound.

Oriental Lilac, Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Anten's THOMASTAR SWEETMELODY 29c 15-09-01
What a little stunner! Not only was this lady lovely to look at but she has a most delightful temperament as well. At 9 months this cat has all the qualities I look for in an Oriental. Excellent type overall. Large ears of correct shape and set. Excellent profile and chin line. Vivid green eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent body type, dainty legs and feet, tail a little short for perfection. Excellent condition though a little on the fat side! Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent colour and sound to the roots. This lady should have a promising show career ahead of her.

Oriental Black Adult Male
Considered for BoB : North's CH MISHKANA DOUBLEOSEVEN 37 23-10-99
BoB Not Awarded. A cat of good Oriental type but on the day was rather thin and not in show condition. Excellent short close coat, totally sound but liberally sprinkled with white hairs.

Foreign Black, Adult Female
1 CC n/a. Berigliano's WHIPPLEWIND BLACK ORCHID 37 23-07-01
This very attractive queen was small and immature for her age. Head of overall excellence. Ears large and well set with good top of head. Profile a little uneven. Excellent muzzle with perfect lines to wedge. Excellent eye shape and set, good colour. Very good body type but small. Coat of very good length and texture, not sound to roots. I did hesitate over awarding the certificate to this very pretty female, but the coat unsoundness tipped the balance …… the disadvantage of such perfect hall lighting!!!

Oriental Tortie, Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Stafford's HEYBURY XSARA 37h 14-05-01
Excellent balanced head. Ears of excellent shape, size and set with excellent top of head. Very good profile. Eyes of correct size and set, good shape. Yellowish green eye colour. Good chin line. Very good muzzle shape with excellent lines to wedge. Excellent body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent rich colour mixture, and sound to the roots. This very attractive female has a small patch of pale cream on her chest which I at first thought was a locket …… two other Judges however confirmed that it was cream! An excellent queen well deserving of CC & BoB.

2 Robinson's GR CH PASHTAN SABRINA 37h 20-11-00

3 Ford's MARILANE CINDERELLA 37g 25-07-01

4 Hudson's SHADOWSQUAD CAMILLA 37e 26-08-01 Ears of excellent shape and set. Profile very uneven. Severe muzzle pinch. Eyes good shape and set. Severe muzzle pinch. Excellent body type. Excellent length, well tapered tail with terminal pip. Coat rather dark requiring more red and cream, but totally sound. Rather thin.

BoB Awarded.

Not As Registered : PR MISHKANA MIGHTY MOUSE 16-01-01
In my opinion both of these exhibits are Caramel Self and not Lilac. The lighting in this venue is quite excellent with the advantage of overhead diffused daylight. Under these perfect lighting conditions neither cat was Lilac.

1 PC & BoB Allen's CINCCI EBONY GIRL 37 12-10-99 Ears of very good shape and set. Profile rather angular. Chin a little shallow. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Very good body type. Excellent coat length and texture, colour dense black and totally sound.

Oriental Spotted Tabby, Neuter Male
1 CC & BoB Lillington's GR PR SALASIM HOT FLASH 38d 15-05-00
What a very nice chap this was - I think we both enjoyed our meeting! A large well built stylish exhibit of excellent Oriental type. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Eyes good shape and set, a rather dull aqua-green in colour. Excellent bite and correct chin line. Muzzle showing a slight pinch but overall has very good lines to wedge. Excellent body type. Long well balanced legs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent pattern formation, spots dense and sound to the roots. Dorsal area a little solid for perfection. Excellent rich red spots on correctly coloured ground …….. at twenty paces the spots are still perfectly visible!! Little or no evidence of agouti invasion. I was indeed most impressed by this delightful natured exhibit…… most certainly a first class Red Spottie!

2 Kitchener's KIMELPHA KUMALAKYM 38fns 09-09-01
A young male neuter of overall excellence.Excellent head type. Ears excellent shape and set. Excellent eye shape and set. Very good profile. Muzzle showing slight pinch. Excellent body type. Excellent firm muscle. Excellent long whip tail. Coat of excellent short length and good texture. Unfortunately his silvering is indistinct, and pattern is feint and lacking clarity - both being essential requirements of a Silver Spotted.

3 May's GR CH & GR PR PALANTIR WOTSPOTZ 38s 01-08-96
An old chap now who certainly took some beating in his prime. Head and body type rather heavy and showing the effects of age. Still shows dense black spots on a good silver ground, though the dorsal area is now a dense area devoid of pattern.

4 Newland's CANTAUR SOLON 38d 10-11-00
Ears very good shape and set, excellent top of head. Good eye shape and set. Very good body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Spotting indistinct.

Oriental Ticked Tabby Neuter Male
1 PC n/a Cook's PR HEYBURY TREVELYAN 45bs 08-06-99
A cat of overall excellent type. Excellent head shape. Ears large and well set. Excellent top of head. Good profile. Clear green eyes of very good shape and set. Very good length body of correct type. Good tail length with terminal pip. Excellent clear ticking. Overall the silver is of quite a good standard BUT the orange coloured tummy … well tarnishing doesn't really cover it!

2 Parkinson's SMAUG MERLIN THEMAGICIAN 45n 25-07-01
Head of good overall shape. Ears of fair size and setting. Muzzle very weak with distinct pinch. Small body of fair oriental type, lacking muscle-tone. Coat of good length and texture, though shows evidence on spineline of plucking. Ticking overall indistinct, rather solid dorsal area rather light at the root. Excellent Caramel colour.

Oriental Smoke Neuter
1 PC & BoB May's PALANTIR KINDASMOKEY 42h 01-08-96
This old chap and I have met before. Clearly the years have taken their toll. Overall of good Oriental type with pleasing head. Body rather heavy. This chap has however the most wonderful Smoke coat on the showbench - at first glance he looks a Havana, but part the coat and it shows a clear distinct whites base …… which is so totally different to an unsound coat. On coat alone I unhesitatingly gave him the PC.
