ORIENTAL CAT ASSOCIATION

19th June 2004

John S Harrison

It was a great pleasure to judge at the OCA's 19th Championship Show, can it really be 19 years since I went down to Colchester to fulfil my first judging engagement! My thanks to Show Managers and Committee for inviting me. The entry was low, but thankfully many of the exhibits were to a very high standard. I was pleased to have my good friend Barbara Fellows as my steward. Many thanks Barbara.

GRAND CHAMPION - Male
Grand : Maish's GR CH SINSIANNA MAXIMUS 37fn
I don't think this delightful gentleman and I have met before. Head of overall excellent type. Ears large and very well set. Excellent profile overall, just a little flat on top for perfection. Excellent eye shape and set. Muzzle showing definite pinch which spoils lines to wedge. Excellent long body in firm muscular condition. Excellent tall slender legs. Long well balanced tail. Excellent short close lying coat. Excellent Apricot colour. This lad has just about the soundest clearest coat I think I have ever seen in a Cream or Apricot, it really is quite exceptional. Excellent condition and temperament.

Reserve : Parkinson's GR CH JOYJEWEL SMAUG AKIVA 45b
A strong masculine exhibit of overall excellent type. Large ears of excellent shape and set. Good profile. Excellent eye shape, superb green colour. Excellent body type. Long limbs, well balanced tail. Well marked face, legs and tail. Coat of very good length and texture. Excellent chocolate ticking on superb warm ground. Ticking does not extend as far down the hair as I would like. Excellent condition and temperament. Well deserving of a Grand, but the Apricot's coat won me over! No doubt the BiS award made up for the Res Grand!

Lumley's CH JADEVYN DARKSPIRIT 37
Head overall a little short for balance. Ears very good shape, size and set. with excellent width between. Skull rather flat spoiling an otherwise good profile. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent body type but overall rather effeminate.. Excellent dense black coat, unfortunately showing a bit of dandruff. Excellent temperament and condition. A lovely chap.

Partridge's CH NUTROSTAR BLACK NIGHT 37
A well grown chap of excellent type overall. Head of pleasing type, eyes rather too yellow in colour. Coat of good length and texture showing a few rusty tinges on the head. Far too many scattered white hairs visible on chest and throat.

Jones' CH PTAH'S DESCENDANT QUINTESSENCE 37k
Head of good shape overall. Ears well set. Skull very flat giving an angular profile. Good body type. Tail rather short for balance. Coat of good colour showing scattered white hairs.

Bowen's GR CH SMAUG MAHICAN 43bs
A mature cat of overall very pleasing type. Ears good shape and set, good profiler. Eyes of fair colour. Body lacking a little muscle tone. Excellent clear shading on good silver ground, just a little tarnishing in evidence.

Smith's GR CH LORICHA MOGWAI 62 43bs
A pleasing exhibit of excellent type. Ears large and well set, medium wedge. Good profile. Good body type. Excellent coat colour and markings. Coat rather open and fluffed.

ORIENTAL SMOKE MALE
1 CC & Bob Bowen's SANIBEL CHOCTAW NASHOBA 42b
Ears good shape size and set. Eyes good shape, fairly good green in colour. Good lines to wedge. Good profile, bite a little untidy. Very good body type. Coat of good length and excellent texture. Good chocolate on excellent silver ground. Very good condition and temperament.

ORIENTAL FAWN KITTEN
1 & BoB Short's FERNGULLY JAGUAR 37r
What a little charmer! Excellent type overall. Ears large and very well set with excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent wedge with the slightest of pinches. Excellent bite and firm chin. Excellent body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent colour though not quite sound to roots. A delightful kitten of overall excellence.

ORIENTAL SPOTTED TABBY NEUTER
Considered for BoB : Fremont's PR LUNATORA BLUE 38a
Unfortunately this attractive exhibitor is a Blue Silver Tabby and accordingly I had to mark him 'Not as Registered'. A cat of excellent type overall. The coat shows distinct evidence of being low grade silver. The pattern overall shows too much linkage and the dorsal area is very solid. Rather heavy tarnishing on face.

ORIENTAL TICKED TABBY NEUTER
1 PC & BOB Steven's PR JOYJEWEL DIAMOND CUT 45b
A cat of overall excellent type. Large ears of correct shape, size and setting. Skull just a little flat spoiling otherwise good profile. Good wedge. Excellent green eyes of good shape and set. Excellent body type. Tail of good length but lacking taper. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent colour. Excellent ticking. Excellent condition and temperament.
