THE BRITISH RAGDOLL CAT CLUB
January 8th 2005
John S Harrison
My thanks to Allen, Chris, Len and the Committee for inviting me to
judge once again; having judged at the Club's first Exemption Show, and again
at the first Championship Show I knew only too well what I was letting myself
in for when I accepted the engagement
.. a long day's judging of high
quality Ragdolls! This year was certainly no exception and with an unusually
strong bunch of very impressive kittens judging proved to be far from simple. I
have been very critical in the past of the loss in size and substance in the
breed, today I was delighted to see so very many large cats of correct type,
and the excellent quality of so many of the kittens does give great confidence
for the future. The Club is to be complimented for achieving such a high entry
of quality cats. This is one show where a capable Steward is essential, and I
am really grateful to Mark for accompanying me.
Grand Champion Male
Grand Challenge Certificate to Mrs D Anderson's CH PURRFURUS
BLUE SUNSHINE 66a.
A mature, fully developed, 7 year old male and what a
delightful natured old soul he is, he didn't stop purring once and was quite
content to sprawl all over the trolley, me and Mark! I don't think this Grand
old Chap and I have met before, The standard asks for "a large, powerful,
imposing cat" and my goodness how well this description fits this lovely old
Chap. He is a large muscular and well boned exhibit of overall excellence.
Excellent strength to head. Ears of excellent size shape and set with an
excellent top of head. Nose of very good length, excellent profile. Excellent
colour blue eyes of very good shape, size and set. Excellent cheeks. Excellent
muzzle shape. Short strong neck. Excellent length to body which is of excellent
overall type and size. Excellent strong legs of good length, balanced tail. I
was a little concerned that his very full coat, which though of very good
length and texture, was rather dense and woolly. I checked the SoP and noted
that there are only 10 points for coat length, texture and condition and I
assumed that a 7 year old stud cat would probably live in an outside cattery
and as it's mid-winter gave him the benefit of the doubt
what I was
confident of is that without any doubt whatsoever his many excellent qualities
more than outweighed my reservations: however, this said I would not have made
the allowance in a female or a neuter. A magnificent exhibit of most excellent
type, it was a great pleasure to judge him, I understand that this was his
third and qualifying Grand, my heartiest congratulations to his Owner /
Breeder.
Reserve Certificate to Mrs & Miss Hart's SILKIESTAR
SHAMANTA MOET 66 31.
A 15 months old youngster of extremely promising type.
Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set with slight tilt forwards.
Excellent flat skull. Excellent profile. Nose of correct length for balance,
lovely profile. Cheeks very well developed for age. Pleasing muzzle shape.
Correct bite and good chinline. Eyes of good shape and size, quite good colour.
Body of very good type and correct length, showing good bone to legs. Well
balanced tail. Coat of good length and texture, well marked overall, back
rather darker than I like. I hope I shall see him again when he is fully
mature.
Mr & Mrs Cann's CH SNOWSPRITE MISTERBLUESKY 66a. 2½
years
Another large well developed male. Head of good type overall though I
felt his ears were a little small for balance, and tend to be a little close in
set. Nose just a fraction long. Good profile. Very good cheeks. Eyes of fair
shape, rather pale in colour. Excellent body type, good length body, short
sturdy neck. Well balanced limbs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture.
Just a tadge grumpy.

strength of bone. Excellent full coat of correct length and texture. Excellent
colouring and contrast. A really pleasing exhibit of overall excellence shown
in superb condition
what a lovely natured old chap as well! Well
deserving of the BoB, I see from my catalogue that he also took the Grand
Premier certificate in strong competition.
2 Creed's BOSSDOLLS RUNNING
BEAR 66. At 4½ years of age I felt this chap was a little small and
would have liked to feel more bone and substance. Ears of good size and set,
with good flat skull between. Good profile. Cheeks showing fair development,
though the muzzle was a little weak. Correct bite, chin line a little uneven.
Eyes of very good shape and size and excellent bright blue in colour. Body of
good length, rather fine boned and lacking substance. Neck rather long. Coat of
excellent length and texture, body a trifle dark. Lovely natured chap.
3 Palmer's LITTLEANGEL JOSHUA 66. An excellent natured lad of 2½
years showing overall excellent body type. Ears a little small for balance,
rather close set, though the skull overall appeared to be correct. Nose a
little long, spoiling an otherwise pleasing profile. Eyes of fairly good blue
colour. But rather inclined to Oriental shape. Excellent body type showing very
good balance and solid substance. Well balanced tail and legs. Excellent coat
length and texture. A delightful chap who revelled in the attention!
Considered for BoB - Lynch's PR CHESAWOOD WILLOW UFGOOD 66. A
pleasing 5 year old of overall excellent type, showing impressive head type
with a superb profile. A large well built chap of substance. Very good coat
length and texture, coat just a little dark and lacking a little in contrast.
Lovely tempered boy of quality, but unfortunately he didn't appeal to me quite
as much as the winner.
