THE BRITISH RAGDOLL CAT CLUB

January 6th 2007

John S Harrison

My thanks to Allen, Chris, Len and the Committee for inviting me to judge once again at this show. In an age when entries are falling and the quality in many breeds is "not quite as good as it might be" I am always amazed at the very high entries at this show AND the very high standard of the exhibits - this year was certainly no exception. It all makes for a very busy day … and judging is never easy! My grateful thanks as always to Mark Parkinson for accompanying me and looking after me and our cats so well.

I was delighted to judge Overall Best in Show and had six high quality exhibits to judge, all with considerable quality and much to commend them. It was certainly not an easy decision. The cats I had to consider were:

CH EMERISLE EMILIO BANDITO a 21 month old Seal Bicolour Male owned & bred by Mrs Jeanette Fitzpatrick. During the morning I had awarded this very impressive chap the BoB.

RAGALYN BIJOU a 7 month old Seal Bicolour male kitten owned & bred by Lynda & Kevin Sprot. A delightful young lad of very good size and substance for his age. Excellent head overall. Ears of excellent size, shape and set. Very good profile; cheeks and muzzle developing well. Eyes of good size and shape, lacking a little depth in colour. Well grown for age and showing excellent type. Coat of good length, I thought it just a little harsh in texture. A very promising kitten shown in excellent condition. Superb temperament.

CH & GR PR CHEHAM TUTTIFRUTTI a 2½ year old Blue Cream Bicolour owned by Mrs Lyndsey Benterman and bred by Chris Powell & Allen Wells. An attractive lass of overall very pleasing type. Ears of good size and set, but she would insist on holding them rather low. Good profile. Good cheek definition, well shaped muzzle. Body of good type and substance. Coat of good length and texture, well marked, very pretty colour/markings.

RAGTASIA PEACHESAND CREAM a 21 month old Blue Cream Colourpoint owned by Mr G Slater and bred by Matthew Griffiths & Michael Scott. This very pretty lass is a youngster of overall excellence. Well set ears of very good size and shape with a very good top of head. Excellent profile, good nose length, good chinline. Body of overall excellent type, just lacking a little in size and substance which I am sure will come with maturity. Excellent coat length and texture with superb colouration. Excellent condition and presentation. I was very impressed indeed with this superb natured lass but felt that she lacked just a little in maturity and confidence, but hey she's only a baby really and anyway I'd give her a home any day!

LAMOR RETURNTOSENDER a 5 ½ month old Blue Colourpoint male kitten owned & bred by Mrs Lyndsey Benterman. A well grown kitten of overall very good type. Ears of good size and shape, well set. Good profile, good chin and correct bite, needs to grow into nose. Cheeks and muzzle developing well. Eyes just a little full. Body of good size, and substance for age. Very good type overall. Coat of very good texture. A pleasing lad showing great promise. Excellent condition and temperament.

GR PR CHEHAM CANTONA a Seal Colourpoint owned by Mrs Stacey & Mr Dellroyde and bred by Chris Powell. A large and impressive exhibit that I had awarded the BoB earlier in the day.

After some deliberation I awarded Overall Best in Show to CH EMERISLE EMILIO BANDITO owned and bred by Mrs Jeanette Fitzpatrick, I understand that the superb Bicolour lad also took this award at last years show - that's consistency for you! Congratulations to owner/breeder.

In the Reserve slot was Mr Slater's delightful RAGTASIA PEACHESAND CREAM. I understand that her dam was made up to champion today, I awarded one of her cc's so congratulations to all concerned!

AC or Pattern Grand Champion, Male
1 Imp n/a Jones' GR CH SILKIESTAR RAPHAEL 66 31 3/4/2004
Ears of very good size, shape and set. Very good top of head. Eyes very good size, shape and colour. Very good profile though nose just a little long for perfection. Head overall appears to be just a little long for correct balance. Unfortunately he has a clearly defined wedge with an absence of cheek development, and subsequently lacks correct muzzle shape - however much of this is masked by coat. Excellent body type of excellent size and substance with solid bone. Excellent strong legs and paws, with tail in proportion. Coat of excellent length and texture, with good markings, showing excellent points colour and body contrast. Shown in excellent condition. Overall this chap has so much going for him and has so many of the qualities I look for in this breed but unfortunately I could not overlook the lack of cheek development and could not therefore award the certificate. I have judged this delightful natured cat on numerous occasions in the past and thank his owner for entering him under me.

AC Bi-Colour Adult, Male
1 cc n/a Mr & Mrs Davies' CH RAGSHAVEN BUSTERS LEGACY 66 31a 27/3/2005
Head of overall good type. Ears of good size and shape, fairly well set. Fair top of head. Fairly good profile. Cheeks need better definition. Correct bite. Eyes very round and rather pale in colour. Body of fairly good type but at almost 2 years I expect a male to be bigger and bolder than this lad, overall he is rather fine boned and lacking substance. Coat of very good length and texture. Unfortunately I did not feel he reached the required standard for the award of CC.

BoB to Fitzpatrick's CH EMERISLE EMILIO BANDITO 66 31 8/4/2005
A large and impressive cat of excellent size and substance. Masculine head of very good balance. Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set. Excellent skull. Excellent profile with nose of correct length, good chin line. Excellent cheek definition and very pleasing muzzle shape. Eyes of excellent deep blue colour but I thought them just a little narrow and I did detect an intermittent squint. Excellent strong muscular body with good strength of bone. Excellent sturdy legs, well sprung ribcage, and balanced tail. Coat of excellent length and texture. Excellent temperament and condition and well presented. A very laid back cat of overall excellence, certainly showing great quality and conforming closely to the SoP …. well deserving the BoB and subsequently Overall BiS.

Also considered for BoB Jones' GR CH SILKIESTAR RAPHAEL 66 31

AC Bi-Colour Adult, Female
1 & CC Williams' ADDICTIKAT MAIDEN SCOTLAND 66 31a 2/2/2006
A very impressive young female of overall excellence and surprising maturity for an 11 month old! Excellent head overall. Ears of excellent shape, size and set. Excellent skull. Very good profile with balanced nose length. Very good cheek development for age, excellent muzzle shape. Eyes of excellent size and shape, just a little pale in colour for perfection. Head held on strong neck. Excellent body type with good length, strength and substance. Excellent well boned legs and paws, balanced tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent colour and markings. A most attractive youngster showing great promise and so deserving of the cc. She was just a little uppity and could do with a few lessons in manners!!

2 Parkes' KYETSI KOBALT KWEEN 66 31at 13/9/2004
A very attractive female of overall quality. Head of very good type overall. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Good top of head. Good profile overall though I thought her nose a little long for balance. Good cheeks and muzzle. Eyes good shape and set, very good colour. Body of very good type, excellent size and substance for her age. Solid legs and paws, well balanced tail. Coat of very good length and texture, excellent contrast between point colour and body, excellent white markings. Her points colouring was of a very good blue, but I had difficulty seeing much evidence of tabby markings.

3 Abram's NAPTIME TRULY SCRUMPTIOUS 66 31t 13/9/2005
This lass unfortunately lacks the size and substance I look for in this breed. Head of good type overall. Ears good shape and set. Very good top of head. Fairly good profile, chin rather shallow, correct bite. Fairly good cheeks. Body rather too small, lacking substance, and fine boned. Coat of good length and texture, very good white facial markings.

4 Holme's FILENSIO CELTICSTARR 66 31 19/7/2005
Now this little madam certainly did herself no favours …. will someone please tell her it's not the best idea to throw a strop while being judged! Head of overall fairly good type. Ears good size and set. Fair profile, chin rather shallow - I decided it might be unwise to check her bite! Body rather small and fine boned. Coat of fair texture but very short.

3 Sockett's ADCINLO DARING KNIGHT 66 4/12/2004
A large and bold cat of overall good type. Ears of good size and shape, well set. Fairly good profile but nose a little long. Fairly well developed cheeks but rather too long in the muzzle. Body of good type with excellent size and substance. Balance legs and tail. Coat of good length and texture.

Another large well built lad. Ears of good size and shape, well set with good flat skull. Profile lacking sufficient definition, nose a little long for balance. Large well balanced body of good type.
