This was my first visit to the Rex Cat Club Show. My thanks to Rex Cat Club Chairman Peter Williams and the RCC Committee for inviting me to judge Cornish kittens at this show which was so ably managed by Janet Starr - so everything ran like clockwork. My thanks as always to Mark for stewarding for me.

It was a great pleasure to handle so many quality Cornish Rex, I think that all of the cats I judged were completely 'new to me' so though I was very impressed by the qualities of many of them I was totally oblivious of their identity and therefore their past records … I thoroughly enjoyed judging so many quality Cornish Rex and thank the exhibitors for entering under me.

Cornish Rex Male Kitten (up to 6 months)
1 & BoB Hummerston's CHRISAN CAMELOTT 33 31s M 3/7/06
A delightful kitten of overall excellence. Head of correct type and balance. Ears very good size and shape, very well set. Very good profile overall with just a slight dip to the nose. Chin line not quite square, very good bite. Eyes of good size, just a little too Oriental in shape. A lovely set of curled eyebrows and whiskers! Excellent body type, long slender legs with very neat paws. Tail of good length with excellent taper. Coat of very good length and excellent texture. Very good rexing overall showing dense ripples to back and sides, rather flat on shoulders Attractively marked and excellent clean presentation. Shown in excellent condition. This kitten had the most delightful temperament and really enjoyed being judged. This gorgeous kitten shows very great promise, I hope I will have the opportunity of judging him again in the future. Well deserving of BoB.

Cornish Rex Male Kitten (6-9 months)
1 Tyler's JODUNO LITTLEWILL 33 15 M 13/4/06
Head of overall fair type. Ears fairly good shape though a little small for balance, set rather wide and with a tendency towards being flared. Eyes of very good shape and set. Skull rather rounded and profile far too even lacking change of plane. Body of good type overall but lacking a little in elegance. Legs of good length but rather heavy for balance. Tail of good length and taper. Coat of good length and texture but showing insufficient rexing. The coat showed a wide 'furrow' along the spine line with only a very small amount of weak rexing to either side, and restricted only to the dorsal area. Excellent condition and temperament. I did hesitate over awarding a First to this kitten.

2 Tyler's JODUNO SPOTTGOMAGIC 33 20b M 13/4/06
Litter brother to the above. Head far too Oriental overall. Ears of fair size and shape but set wide and held low. Profile far too even showing no change of plane at the brow. Body of fair type, tall legs just a little heavy with rather large paws. Well tapered tail of good length. Coat of excellent lengthy and texture showing very slight rexing restricted to the dorsal area, the sided and remainder of the body being totally flat .Excellent condition and temperament. This kitten has an absolutely stunning pattern and this together with the richness of colour will be the envy of breeders of spotted breeds!

Cornish Rex Female Kitten (up to 6 months)
1 & BoS Cross' RASTACAT LADYOFTHELAKE 33 36e F 6/5/06
A well balanced head of correct length Ears of good size and shape, fair set but needs to be a little higher. Good profile overall spoiled by just a slight bump on the nose. Eyes of good shape and set. Body of excellent length and correct type, tall slender legs with neat paws. Tail well tapered though lacking just a little in length. Coat of good length and texture, though I would like a little more density to the coat. Showing good rexing overall, well rippled to back and sides, with some rexing to legs. A very attractive tortie smoke showing a very high expression of silver. Excellent condition and temperament.

What a stunning older lady! Head of excellent type overall showing very good length/width balance. Ears large, excellent shape and set high. Good flat top of head and excellent profile. Excellent square chin. Very good muzzle shape. Lovely expressive eyes of excellent size. Excellent body type. Long slim elegant legs with neat little paws, standing tall and on her toes. Good length tapered tail. Excellent coat length and texture, excellent rexing with dense ripples over the entire body and extending to the feet and tail tip. I thought this delightful lady was an excellent example of the breed, just oozing with quality - certainly a privilege and a pleasure to judge her!

2 Retief's IKURLIKAT TSHIANEO 33 31js 19/01/06
A pleasing youngster of overall good type and surprising maturity for her age. Head of overall very good balance. Ears of very good shape, of good size and well set. Good profile. Excellent firm chin with correct bite. Very good muzzle shape. Eyes of good shape and size. Body of excellent type. Long slender legs, neat feet. Tail of good length and taper. Excellent short coat of superb texture. Coat showing excellent rexing with ripples extending to legs and tail. A very attractive young female of delightful colouring, with many qualities.

3 Thompson's CH CHRISAN CALLICO 33 22a 19/07/04
Ears of good size and shape, set a little wide and held low. Profile too shallow overall and rather 'dished' to the nose. Good eye shape and set. Muzzle rather too fine. Excellent slender body type with long dainty legs and long whip tail. Coat short and of excellent texture, very well rexed showing very even ripples over the body.

4 Delnevo/Macro's CRISPUS SEMOLINA SILKPAWS 33a 40 13
Head of very good type overall. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Excellent eye shape. Fairly good profile overall, though nose is a little long and the stop could have better definition. Very good body type. Coat of very good length and texture overall, showing fair rexing overall but some obvious bareness to sides.

Cornish / Devon Rex Smoke or Tabby
1 Keates' GR CH PHILOKALIA JOCELYN FAFURST 33a 36 30/07/00 What a delightful older exhibit. Head of excellent Devon type and shape overall. Ears of very good size and shape, very well set. Good profile overall though nose break could have a little better definition. Excellent eye size, shape and set. Very good cheeks, nice muzzle and good whisker break. Very good body (just a little portly!) with balanced legs and tail. Coat of excellent length and texture with an excellent degree of rexing. It was a pleasure to handle this lovely exhibit.

Cornish / Devon Rex Breeders Neuter
It really was a very great pleasure to judge these four outstanding Cornish Rex neuters with very great familial likeness and I do most sincerely thank Mr & Mrs Arnold for allowing me the privilege of judging them …. but what a challenge for a Probationer Judge!!!! My comments and criticisms of these cats are relative only to each other in this class - in different company I would be raving about each and any one of them!! Each of these stunning cats deserved a First prize.

1 Arnold's GR PR PAPAVER PROMETHEUS 33 31s 07/09/04 A male neuter of overall excellence. Head overall of excellent type and balance. Ears of very good size and shape, and excellent setting. Excellent flat skull. Excellent profile. Excellent chin. Very good muzzle shape. Excellent eye shape and set with a superb expression. Very good body type, tall slender legs with neat paws, well tapered tail of good length. Short coat of excellent texture with very good even rexing over the entire body. This superb cat is of excellent Cornish type with a very good coat, though I preferred the coat of

2 Arnold's UK GR CH & IMP GR PR PAPAVER CASSIOPEIA 33 31s 30/04/98
A female neuter of overall excellence with a coat to die for! Head of excellent shape and balance. Ears of very good shape and excellent set, I thought perhaps just a little small for perfection. Excellent profile, strong chin and correct bite. Body of overall excellent type, just a little on the plump side! Well balanced legs and tail. Excellent short dense coat of superb texture and showing excellent tight rexing all over. Another excellent example of the breed!!

3 Arnold's GR PR PAPAVER PARIS 33 31s 07/09/04 Litter brother of the winner and again a cat of overall excellence. Head of overall very good type. Excellent profile, chin line recedes just a little. Ears of good size and shape, very well set. Eyes just a little full. Nose just a trifle long detracting from an otherwise good muzzle. Excellent body type. Tall slim legs. Well tapered tail of good length. Excellent coat length and texture with excellent rexing, showing defined ripples to back, sides, legs and tail. This is a cat of excellent coat quality with very good type. Yet another excellent example of the breed!!

4 Arnold's UK GR CH & GR PR PAPAVER HECATE 33 36 31/10/94
An elderly female neuter of overall excellence. Head of overall excellent type and correct balance. Ears of fairly good size and excellent shape and set. I thought profile just a little too even compared with the others. Excellent chin, correct bite. Excellent body type, long slender legs with neat paws; tail in proportion. Excellent short coat of perfect texture, with excellent rexing throughout. Excellent condition and temperament. And yet again another excellent example of the breed!!

2 Hummerston's GR PR BALIQUI ANAK AIRMATA 33 31asw 08/05/97
Ears of very good shape and set, though they seemed just a little small for balance. Excellent profile, chin rather prominent, unable to assess his bite due to an absence of nashers! The type of this delightful old chap was spoiled by being what I will kindly say was just a little more than plump! Coat of excellent length and texture, showing excellent rexing with ripples over the entire body. Tail rather thick and short showing little rexing. A delightful chap who obviously enjoys his food .. something I understand only too well!
