THE SHROPSHIRE CAT CLUB

February 5th 2005

John S Harrison

My thanks to Show Managers Di North and Janet Tonkinson for inviting me to judge once again at this large and popular show after a break of many years. I was very fortunate to have Susan Marsh as my steward, not only did Susan handle the cats with great care and confidence, but her delightful humour really made the day most enjoyable - I'm really grateful that she stuck with me until late in the afternoon to assist with Overall BiS judging. I shall certainly look forward to another show in her company. Many thanks Susan.

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Adult Male (4)
1 & CC Cornwell's COFCATS GOODYTWOSHOES 66aw. 26/02/2004
A very well grown youngster of lovely size and substance. At 11 months this chap has a very strong head, however he does need to grow into his ears, which though correctly set were held rather too low. Excellent top of head. Very good profile. Excellent chin line, perfect bite. Good blue eyes of correct size and shape. Short strong neck. Excellent long, strongly built body of substance. Balanced legs and tail, good strength of bone. Excellent coat length and texture, lovely soft blue points colour, correctly marked. I hesitated over awarding the CC, but my concerns over his ears which I feel sure he will grow into were more than outweighed by his other qualities. Excellent condition and temperament.

2 Pidd's ADTRELO SENZAPARIROMEO 66aw. 15/07/2003
A pleasant chap of overall good type. Good width top of head showing good flat plane. Ears good shape and set. Fairly well developed cheeks. Nose just a little long, good chin line, bite very untidy. Fair profile. Body of good overall type with balanced legs and tail, good bone. Coat of good length and correct texture. Points a very dark slate blue colour. Very good temperament.

3 Chandler's ZOLYN SOMELIKEITHOT 66. 30/07/2003
A rather small and effeminate male. Ears fair size and shape. Head overall rather weak. Fair profile. Nose a little long. Cheeks need better definition. Body rather lightweight and lacking substance. Coat of good length but rather greasy. Unfortunately this chap was not really in show condition.

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Adult Female (8)
1 CC & BoB Williams' SPIRITDANCERS KATY 66a. 06/10/2003
I was impressed with this young lady when I judged her as a kitten, she has certainly fulfilled that early promise! At 16 months she has made a really pleasing female, though she still needs to body up a little, but that will come with maturity. Excellent head overall. Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set. Excellent flat top of head. Nose correct length. Excellent profile. Excellent cheeks, Bright blue eyes of very good size and pleasing shape. Good strong neck. Well proportioned body and legs. Good tail length. Coat of excellent length and texture. A delightful tempered lady, very well presented. Well deserving of the CC which she won in strong competition.

2 Smith's RAGAMEWS STOPINTHENAMEOFLUV 66w. 07/04/2004
The baby of the class and what an attractive little lady! She is very immature but nonetheless shows most of the qualities I look for. A well developed youngster of very good size and substance for her age. Very pleasing head overall. Ears of correct size and set. Good top of head. Nose of good length. Good profile. Good cheek development with pleasing muzzle. Excellent eye shape. Good strong body with balanced limbs. Excellent seal points colour, correctly marked. Excellent coat length and texture. A very promising youngster indeed.

3 Pidd's RAGALYN MELODY 66. 14/01/2002
Another pleasing female, unfortunately she was a little timid and wanted to hide under her blanket. Ears good shape, correct size and set. Good top of head. Excellent profile showing nose to be correct length for balance. Very good cheek development, very neat muzzle. Eyes of very good blue colour, correct shape and size. Very good strong body of excellent type with well proportioned legs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Such a pity she was so nervous.

4 Haworth's LEASOWES ANGELICA 66w. 06/05/2003
A rather grumpy lady who really didn't try to impress! Head of fairly good overall type. Ears correct size for balance. Good flat top, profile rather too straight. Fair cheeks and muzzle. Good body type. Coat of fair length and very good texture. Body colour rather dark.

Siberian Adult Assessment
Merit : Sabine's SILKIESTAR SILVER ZORO Male. 82/18. 18/02/2004
A most handsome young Silver Tabby male of very good size and substance conforming closely to the Breed Standard in all respects. Head of very good size and balance in proportion to body. Well furnished medium sized ears correctly set on good broad rounded skull. Good broad wedge with rounded contours. Well developed cheeks bones curving to outer ear base. Good muzzle with defined whisker pads. Eyes of good size and correct shape. Large strongly muscled body of compact build with good strength of bone. Excellent bone to legs with excellent neat feet in accord with Breed Standard. Tail of correct length for balance. Coat of very good length and texture overall, with an excellent dense undercoat though the topcoat was I felt just a little sparse. A promising youngster conforming very closely to the Breed Standard and I had absolutely no hesitation in awarding the Merit. I was delighted to note that the type of this lovely tempered chap was distinctly different to any other established large SLH breed. It was a real pleasure to assess him.

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll Neuter Male
BoB Bulmer's PR RAGALYN NIMBUS 66/31a 29/12/2003
I recently commented on this lovely tempered chap at the BRCC show. He is surprisingly mature for his age. Overall of excellent type with excellent size and substance. Very pleasing head held on short strong neck. Ears excellent shape, size and set. Excellent cheeks and profile. Excellent body type showing very good strength of bone and substance. Balanced legs and tail. Coat of excellent length and texture. Basically well marked. Shown in excellent condition. Well deserving of BoB.

1 PC n/a Ashworth's RAGALYN BLUELAGOON 66/31a. 27/04/2004
At only just 9 months this lad really needs time to mature, he is clearly adolescent rather than adult male. Head overall just a little narrow for balance. Ears of good size and shape, held a little upright. Top of head a little rounded. Fairly good profile though a little straight overall. Clear blue eyes of good shape and size, unfortunately showing an intermittent squint. Body of good type, well grown for age. Well balanced legs and tail. Coat of very good length and texture. Excellent temperament and condition. Whilst I appreciate that immaturity is not a fault I did not feel that this lad's head type was sufficiently representative of an adult male to award the CC.

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll Neuter Female
1 PC n/a Ashworth's UK GR CH & GR PR EMERISLE DIAMANTE 66/31 02/03/2000
Ears of good size and fair set. Good top of head. Fairly good in profile, firm chin. Fairly well developed cheeks with good muzzle. Eyes of fair size and good shape. Body of good type overall but in a cat of 5 years I would expect better size and substance - even in a female neuter. Coat of good length and texture, but in the process of casting her coat. Overall well marked. Excellent dark seal brown points colour, but unfortunately there was little or no contrast with the body which was almost the same colour - the overall effect being of a seal and white cat. I did not consider the award of a PC was justified.

Asian (Tiffanie) Adult Male
1 CC n/a Copley's KEVONA SIMPLYAWESOME 68/43fs 03/07/2003
A delightful tempered large lad who certainly took some handling ….. he really didn't want to sit still for a minute … what a wriggler!!! Ears very large and low set. Very wide top of head and not quite in proportion with length. Very heavy in brow, fair profile, nose rather long. Eyes of good shape and in proportion with head size, colour bright orange. Body type very heavy though not cobby. Legs very heavy. Excellent coat length and texture, excellent cream shading on clear silver ground. Unfortunately though this lad has all the coat quality one could ask for his heavy type and lack of elegance precluded the award of the CC.

Asian (Tiffanie) Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Kemp's NEMOREZ JENES GENIE 68/45 19/04/2004
This delightful dainty exhibit, only just adult, was a little nervous and needed just a bit of coaxing. Head of overall pleasing type. Ears of very good size, shape and set. Beautifully domed top of head. Excellent profile with very neat nose. Correct bite, firm chin. Eyes of excellent size, shape and set. Excellent body type showing refinement. Excellent coat length and texture showing a good degree of ticking. Very rich colour. A delightful exhibit shown in excellent condition, well deserving of CC & BoB.

2 Moss's KEVONA JADE XAVIERA 68/43gs 01/04/2004 Ears rather too large for balance and very low in set. Head very broad with very heavy brow. Fair profile overall. Eyes good shape. Good chin. Body type rather cobby with very heavy limbs, Excellent coat length and texture, very good colour and pattern. Unfortunately lacking the refinement and elegance I look for in an Asian.

Cornish Rex Kitten
1 & BoB Marshall's BANE AURELIO DEMELZA 33/30d 08/09/2004
A bonny well grown kitten of 21 weeks in excellent firm condition. Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set rather high on the head. Head of correct proportions overall with medium wedge and rounded muzzle. Good bite and firm chin. Excellent eye shape with typical expression. Profile a little too even and rather Oriental overall. Head carried on very elegant neck. Excellent slender body type. Tall elegant slender legs with very dainty paws. Tail if excellent length and taper. Short dense bright red coat of excellent texture showing an excellent degree of rexing, with ripples over the entire body with no sign of flatness, tail rexed to the tip. A lovely set of crinkled eyebrows and whiskers. A superb natured kitten shown in excellent condition. I had no hesitation in awarding the BoB despite my concern over her profile, which was more than outweighed by her superb body type and excellence of coat. A delight to judge.

Oriental Smoke Adult
1 CC n/a Bowen's CH SANIBEL CHOCTAW NASHOBA 42b 27/04/2003
Ears of good size and shape, correctly set. Skull rather flat resulting in an angular profile. Eyes of good green colour, very good set though rather full. Good chin, bite very untidy. Long firm body of very good Oriental type, long slender legs, tail short for balance and lacking sufficient taper. Coat of very good length and fine texture. Excellent rich chocolate colour which one does not expect to find in a Silver or Smoke. Unfortunately though he shows typical 'clown' markings to the face his body shows insufficient smoke undercoat which the Breed Standard requires to extend at least one-third up the hair, in places his undercoat is barely discernable. As one expects with his rich colour the undercoat is very 'muddy' and not the 'near-white' asked for by the standard.

Oriental Shaded Adult
1 CC n/a Stafford's CH HEYBURY ZOE 43h 06/06/2002
Large ears of very good shape and set with good width between. Profile very uneven with depression above brow. Green eyes of very good size and set, just a little full. Very good body type, slender limbs, tail short and lacking sufficient taper. Coat of fairly good length and fine texture, richly coloured and well shaded unfortunately still showing too much tabby pattern. A lovely natured lass shown in excellent condition. Sorry I couldn't award CC.

2 Bowen's CHOCTAW SMOHALLA 43ps 04/03/2003
Correctly set ears of very good size and shape with good width between. Skull rather flat with clearly visible skull depression. Profile has a tendency to be dished. Muzzle pinched and lacking substance. Shallow chin though bite is OK. Clear green eyes of good shape and fair set. Excellent coat length and texture. Coat showing excellent shading of rich mingled colours on a good silver ground.
