TEESSIDE CAT CLUB

August 26th 2000

John S Harrison

My thanks to Show Managers & Committee for inviting me to Judge at this show on what turned out to be a very hot and humid day. My thanks to Mark for stewarding for me. My thanks also to those exhibitors who entered under me.

The artificial lighting combined with blue walls was not conducive to assessing either coat colour or eye colour and accordingly I had to give exhibits the benefit of the doubt in these respects.

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT

Kitten

1 & BoB Johnstone's TUYET EEVEE. 67/31t. 17/03/00
At present head a little too broad for length. Ears of very good size and shape but a little wide in set, and carried rather low. Good profile. Eyes very good shape and set. Body of good type and correct balance, needs to grow on a bit. Good tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Well deserving of BoB, hope her head lengthens a bit.

Neuter Male

BoB : Dobson's PR MAYSULA VICHIKHAO. 67/31ts. 29/04/99.
A large chap showing signs of middle age spread! Good head overall. Body of good type. Very good coat length and texture.

ASIAN SMOKE or BURMILLA ADULT

Male

Could Not Handle : Beattie's BEANNOCHT PENDRAGON. 72/43nsq. 24/09/99

Considered for BoB : Johnson's CH VERVAIN TARIQ. 72/43s. 10/04/99
A very large male of very heavy type. Ears of fairly good set. Nose long and skull lacking any dome which spoils profile. Very heavy body type. Coat of good texture needs to be shorter. Shading evenly distributed on clear silver ground.

Female

1 CC & BoB Burnett's MORAIL CHEYENNE. 72/43pq. 30/03/99
Head of overall good type. Ears good shape and set with pleasing top of head. Nose a little long. Eyes of very good size and shape with delightful expression. Body of very good type, dainty and well balanced. Good coat length and texture. Well shaded.

2 Kemp's NATZKATZ ASIAN PRINCESS. 72/42q. 15/09/99
Unfortunately this lady was rather stroppy and handled with difficulty, and accordingly I do not think she looked her best. A cat of overall fair type. Ears rather high in set. Eyes very full. Nose to long. Fair profile. Coat too long, but well smoked.

ORIENTAL LILAC ADULT

Male

1 CC N/A Johnstone's ADVENSH CHICO. 29/08/99
Ears of fair size but far too high in set. Fair profile. Muzzle very square with severe pinch. Excellent eye shape and set. Body of good type and length. Coat long, and very unsound.

Female

1 CC & BoB Nicholson's BETABIL KOHINOOR. 29/03/99
A pleasing exhibit with a nicely balanced head. Ears of very good size and set. Good top of head. Very good profile. Teeth a little untidy but the bite is basically even. Excellent eye set, but rather full. Very good body length and type. Balanced legs and tail. Coat of good length and texture, appeared to be sound to the roots.

ORIENTAL CINNAMON ADULT

Male

1 CC N/A Cox's PTAH's DESCENDANT QUINTESSENCE. 24/01/99
Head of very good type. Ears large and very well set. Eyes of correct set, but rather full. Skull a little flat resulting in a slightly angular profile. Good chin and muzzle. Excellent body type with long legs, neat feet and balanced tail. Coat patchy and not in show condition. I learned later that he only recently been imported.

ORIENTAL TORTIE ADULT

Female

1 CC N/A Cassar Simonds' WESTGARTH PRELUDE. 37e. 28/10/98
Head of very good shape overall. Ears of very good shape and set. Skull very flat which spoils the profile. Muzzle very square. Eyes of very good shape and set. Very good body length and type. Excellent dainty legs and paws. Coat of correct length and excellent texture.

ORIENTAL TICKED TABBY ADULT

Female

1 CC & BoB Dodds' CH SAITAN CARAMELSHORTCAKE. 45n. 19/06/99.
What a superb lady! Excellent head with perfect balance. Ears of excellent shape and set. Excellent profile. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge. Body of very good length and type. Excellent coat texture. Excellent clearly defined ticking, with albeit a rather deep ground colour. Good markings extending down to the toes. A really superb exhibit and a fine example of a Ticked Tabby - made all the better by a wonderful nature. Certainly well deserving of CC & BoB.

ORIENTAL CLASSIC & MACKEREL TABBY ADULT

Female

1 CC N/A Linton's CH. SIARUNG SALAAYA. 41b. 14/06/99.
Head of fair type overall. Ears of good size and shape. Profile very uneven. Fair bite. Eyes good shape and set. Good body length and type. Coat of good texture but rather long. Pattern of fairly good formation, but lacking sufficient markings on the legs. Unfortunately the pattern showed excessive agouti invasion and was of a darker agouti on a lighter agouti ground. The SoP specifically states that "There should be no speckling of agouti hairs in the markings and a pattern which consists of dark agouti on a light agouti background is incorrect and must be penalised".

ORIENTAL SMOKE ADULT

Female

1 IC & BoB Gibbon's DAWNTREADER JEMINI SHADES. 42b. 04/01/99.
Head of very good overall type. Ears excellent shape and set. Fair profile. Eyes very good shape and set. Excellent body type. Coat short and close lying. Excellent even colouring with clear silver undercoat which for perfection could extend a little further up the hair. Most attractive exhibit.

ORIENTAL SHADED ADULT

Female

1 CC Stafford's HEYBURY TITIANRED. 43ds. 08/06/99
Head of very good overall type. Ears of very good shape and set. Very good profile. Good lines to wedge. Eyes of good set, but very full. Excellent body length and type. Very dainty limbs and well balanced tail. Excellent short close lying coat of superb texture. Excellent light shading on a very deep silver ground. This exhibit has certainly come on a pace since I last judged her. I understand that this was her third certificate, congratulations.

2 Gibbon's CHELANCA SAITAN ALMONDICE. 43p. 28/05/98.
Head of very pleasing type. Ears very good shape and set. Good profile. Eyes of correct shape and set. Muzzle showing pinch. Body of fair length and type. Although clearly moulting the coat is rather long and a little woolly in texture. Showing limited shading and rather a high degree of ticking. I hesitated over her registration, and had she not been moulting I would probably have questioned her registration.

ORIENTAL SMOKE KITTEN

1 BoB N/A Samphier's SAITAN TALLOOLAH TREACLE. 42b. 04/04/00
Head of fair type. Ears good shape and set. Eyes of good set, but very full. Muzzle showing teething pinch. Good body length and type. Very good coat length and texture. Even brown showing very little smoke undercoat.

ORIENTAL SHADED KITTEN

Male

Not as Registered : Sloan's MYAA PROFESSOR HIGGINS.
I was very disappointed that I couldn't make an award to this kitten - but he clearly IS NOT a Shaded! He is without doubt one of the most promising CLASSIC TABBIES I have seen for probably 20 years! The sheer clarity and soundness of his pattern was unbelievable. The pattern, which was TOTALLY free from any agouti invasion, was TOTALLY sound to the roots reflects perfectly the requirements of the Tabby SoP. When the tail tip was held against the pattern it was exactly the same colour. A 'proper' tabby is indeed rarer than hens teeth, and having bred Bantams for 37 years I still haven't found one!!!! I was unable to find his Owner/Breeder in the afternoon and was delighted that she telephoned me the following morning to discuss the little chap.

Female

1 BoB Sloan's MYAA FAYRE LADY. 43b. 08/05/00
Litter sister of the above and of very similar though, marginally better, type. Excellent type head overall. Ears of excellent shape and set. Excellent profile. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type and length. Excellent coat length and texture. Coat showing a good degree of shading, with the classic pattern breaking well for her age. A most promising little lass who I shall look forward to seeing again. A cracking kitten well deserving of BoB, but I'm sorry I really was more impressed with her brother! Congratulations to their owner/breeder.

ORIENTAL BLACK NEUTER

Male

1 PC N/A McGill's PR CAPTIVA MIDNIGHT MADNESS. 15/05/97
Ears set far too low and held forwards. Skull very flat resulting in angular profile. Chin rather weak. Muzzle very broad and square. Good eye shape and set. Body of fair type. Coat of very good length and texture, Colour even to the roots, scattered white hairs on neck.

ORIENTAL BLUE NEUTER

Male

1 PC & BoB Cogan's WESTGARTH MITCHIGAN. 24/09/99
A youngster of very pleasing type. Head of excellent shape. Ears of correct shape and set, though held a little flat. Excellent eye shape and set. Good profile. Excellent body type and length with well balanced legs and tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Colour appeared to be even to the root.

A stunning chap of overall excellence. Excellent head type. Ears of excellent shape and set. Good muzzle with straight lines to wedge. Eyes of perfect shape and set. Excellent body type. Coat of excellent length and texture showing distinct ticking. Well deserving of PC.

2 Murphy's SAITAN HOBNOB. 45fn. 19/06/99.
Head of fair type. Ears of good size and shape but held rather flat. Profile rather uneven. Eyes of good shape and set. Good body type. Coat of good length and texture, appeared to be very light at the base and shows only a fair degree of ticking.

ORIENTAL SHADED NEUTER

Male

1 PC & BoB Wooller's GR CH & SUP GR PR CHELANCA LORD GYLLENE. 43bs 26/07/97.
