TEESSIDE CAT CLUB

August 24th 2002

John S Harrison

My thanks to the Show Manager, Alice Fox, and the Committee for inviting me to judge once again. There was a good entry of Orientals, and overall the standard was very high, it was a very pleasant change to have so many excellent exhibits to assess.

Unfortunately my Mother was unable to attend following a second dislocation of her latest replacement hip, and in her absence I took over almost all her classes and was kept busy late into the day! I hope exhibitors were not too displeased with the change of judge. My thanks to Mark for stewarding for me.

AV Oriental Premier Male
GPC : Wareing's CH & GR PR MIRYOKU MIDSUMMER MAGIC. 29 24/06/98
An excellent strongly built masculine exhibit, yet one that still retains the elegance required in an Oriental. Head of excellent Oriental type. Large ears of correct shape and excellent set. Excellent top of head. Eyes of excellent green, and perfect size, shape and set. Excellent lines to wedge, with only the slightest of indentations at the muzzle. Excellent profile. Excellent bite and square chin line. Excellent strong body type, tall elegant limbs, tail a little short for perfection. Excellent coat length and texture, superb colour which was almost sound to the roots. Excellent condition and temperament. This wonderful chap must surely be one of the finest examples of an Oriental on the showbench today.

Reserve: Janczyk & McFarlane's GR PR STRAMASH ARCTIC SPIRIT. 35 24/10/00
A wonderful example of the Breed - both Foreign White and Oriental. Head of excellent type. Excellent top of head. Large ears of excellent size, shape and setting with excellent width between. Excellent profile with no tendency to flatness or angulation. Excellent lines to wedge with the minimal of pinches. Eyes of excellent shape and set, of perfect size and very good blue colour. Excellent chin line. Excellent elegant Oriental body type, strongly build and well muscled. Tail of good length but lacking in taper. Pure white coat of good length and excellent texture. Excellent condition and presentation. This superb chap has the most wonderful temperament, and really tried his hardest to impress …… or should it be bribe!! He was indeed unfortunate today in meeting the above. It was a very difficult choice, and it took me some time to reach a decision….. BOTH were well worthy of a Grand.

Also : Copland's PR ANNROSTE OTIS. 37. 15/07/00 A very nice chap who in different competition may well have taken a Grand! A cat of overall excellent Oriental type. Excellent head shape. Ears excellent shape and set, very good size and with correct top of head. Green eyes of very good shape and set. Excellent profile. Excellent lines to wedge. Strong body of excellent type with balanced legs and tail. Excellent close lying coat of correct length and texture. Dense black and totally sound to the roots. Excellent condition and temperament. I felt quite sorry for this chap, but fortunately I was able to give him a PC & BoB, even if there was nothing for him in this competition - for sure he did not disgrace himself!

AV Oriental Premier Female
GPC : Webster's PR GINGERBREAD LILAC CASCADE. 29c 14/08/95
A grand old lady of seven years old, looking quite superb! Head of excellent shape. Excellent shape ears of perfect size and setting with wonderful top of head. Excellent profile and good chin line - bite rather untidy, but at seven she's lucky to have her own teeth! Lovely green eyes of excellent size and set. Body of excellent type with dainty limbs. Tail short for balance. Body just a little plump for perfection, but she probably thought the same about me! Coat rather long, but close lying and excellent texture. Colour (even in the hall lighting) appeared to be a very soft frosted lilac, something of a rarity today. Excellent condition and temperament. I understand that this completed her title, well deserved.

Reserve : Simpson's GR CH & PR STRELIZTIA SUNDAE GIRL. 37j 22/05/95
Yet another seven year old lady, and another who can still give the young ones a run for their money! A fine elegant queen of excellent type overall. Head of overall very good type, though just a little narrow. Ears of excellent size and shape, carried just a fraction high. Eyes of very good set. Excellent fine elegant body with very graceful limbs and paws. Excellent tail. Very short close lying coat of excellent texture. Excellent colour, sound to the roots, and well mingled. A lovely old girl who did herself proud, she was unlucky to meet the winner for she still has the potential of winning a Grand!

Also : Dodds' GR CH & PR SAITAN CARAMELSHORT CAKE. 45n 19/06/99
I was very disappointed with this exhibit, she was very agitated and did not want to be handled - the second attempt nearly resulted in a dental impression on my hand! She has a superb balanced head with excellent lines to the wedge. Her ears are of excellent shape and set, and she has excellent eye shape and set. Excellent top of head, excellent profile. Unfortunately this is all she was prepared to let me see! I was unable to make any assessment of her body type, tail, coat or pattern which was a very great pity because she did look superb and would certainly have been in with a great chance. She would certainly have picked up the PC & BoB, but I had to withhold that as well. Such a pity.

Havana Adult Male
1 CC : Murray's CH TIEKE WOY WOY. 03/01/01
This chappy on first encounter did not inspire me! He was very nervous and frankly looked quite awful, however with a bit of fuss and rearranging his bed so he had somewhere to hide he suddenly found his courage and looked a totally different animal! It was well worth the effort and we became quite good mates! Head of very good shape overall. Ears very good shape and set, though damage rather detracts. Very good top of head. Very good profile. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Strong muscular body of excellent type. Excellent coat length and texture, excellent colour and almost sound to the roots. I awarded the CC which was well deserved, but surprising after the first impression!

BoB : Dunlop's CH ADMILSH CANDIDCOUGAR. 23/01/00
I see this is the CC winners Dad. Another strongly built cat of overall very good type. Excellent body. Excellent head. Very good coat length and texture, excellent colour though not quite sound to the roots. Not the most outgoing of chaps, but well worthy of BoB.

Foreign White Adult Male
1 (CC& BoB n/a) : Blair's CH ZOLYN MOVEOVERDARLIN. 04/06/98
A very small, fine and effeminate exhibit. It was difficult to believe he is a four year old entire male. Head of good type overall though the ears are a little small for balance. Profile far to angular with a flat skull. Good firm chin. Eyes good shape and set. Body too fine and lacking strength. Coat very short with skin showing through.

Oriental Blue Adult Male
1 (CC& BoB n/a): Oldfield's CH ADMONSH MONET. 12/06/01
Head of fair type overall. Ears good shape and set. Flat skull and angular profile. Fair chin, untidy bite. Muzzle showing distinct pinch. Good body type, balanced legs, very good tail length and taper. Coat of good length and texture, very dark blue in colour and very unsound.

Oriental Red Adult Male
1 CC & BoB : Mackenzie's PASHTAN XMAN. 25/09/01
What a superb young chap! He really is most impressive. Excellent Oriental type overall. Excellent strong head. Ears excellent size shape and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile, chin rather shallow, but bite correct. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent long neck. Excellent body type with long slim legs and long tapered tail. Coat of perfect length and texture. Excellent red colour. Though showing feint spotted ghosting this chap did look red self rather than tabby. A really attractive chap with a superb temperament, shown in excellent condition.

2 Keane's ANNROSTE OZZIE. 12/08/01
Head overall rather fine and narrow lacking substance. Ears fair shape and set. Eyes rather exaggerated in set and more orange than green. Fair profile. Very good body type. Excellent short close lying coat. Coat showing very distinct and excessive pattern.

Oriental Cream or Apricot Adult Female
1 CC & BoB : Clegg's CH SHOWBIZ FAIR BONNY LASS. 37fn 07/12/00
A large queen of overall very good type. Head of very good type. Ears of excellent size and shape, very well set. Very good profile overall though showing a dip to the nose. Green eyes of excellent shape and set. Good lines to wedge overall though showing slight muzzle pinch. Good chin line. Excellent strong body type , though a little less padding would enhance! Excellent coat length and texture. Colour looked rather more cream than apricot, but in the hall lighting I gave the benefit of the doubt.

Oriental Cinnamon Adult Female
1 CCn/a Cassar-Simmonds' SKWIGLEE NORTHERN DANCER. 20/08/00 A cat of fairly good type overall. Ears of very good size and shape though rather upright in set. Skull rather flat and profile too angular. Muzzle very square and lacking substance. Chin very shallow. Green eyes of good shape and set. Body of good overall type. Coat of good length and texture. Colour rather dull, and coat unsound showing two distinct colours. I am sorry the owner chose to disagree with me rather than discuss the coat.

Oriental Tortoisehell Adult Female
1 CC & BoB : Debowska's CHEZ BLUEPRINT. 37g 20/09/01
Ears of very good size and shape, correctly set with good width between. Excellent top of head. Good profile. Very good green eyes of excellent shape and set. Muzzle rather weak and showing pinch, chin rather shallow, bite correct. Excellent fine elegant Oriental body type. Long fine legs, dainty paws, tail rather short for balance. Excellent coat length and texture, very good colour, well mingled and sound to roots.

2 Stafford's HEYBURY XSARA. 37h 14/05/01
Ears very good shape, good size and correctly set. Excellent profile overall with just a slight dip to the nose. Eyes of fair green colour, well set but rather full. Good lines to wedge. Very good body, good legs. Very good coat length and texture, very good colouring and sound to roots. Certainly this lass was also worthy of a CC.

Oriental Spotted Tabby Adult Female
1 (CC& BoB n/a): Anten's APORTENT LADY WHIRLWIND. 38b 18/09/01
A young female of overall excellent type overall. Excellent head shape. Ears of very good shape and size and correct set. Very good top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent lines to wedge with just the merest of indentations at the muzzle. Very good chin line. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type with good length. Legs long fine and dainty. Balanced tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Good warm colouring. Pattern of fair formation with some elongation and linkage of spots in evidence. Unfortunately there is excessive agouti invasion of the pattern so that the spots are of dark agouti on a paler agouti ground, such a great pity in such a typy youngster. Excellent condition and a delightful temperament.

Oriental Blue Kitten
1 & BoB : Jackson's METAXA ROHIN. MN 22/02/02
Good head type overall. Ears of good shape and size but just a little upright in setting. Good profile. Muzzle rather weak and pinched. Excellent green eyes of very good shape and set. Excellent body type with good taper to tail. Coat very shor6t and close lying, rather dark with ghosting on tail, and unfortunately not sound to roots.

Oriental Lilac Kitten
1 & BoB : Clegg's GELCUNE LANCE. 19/04/02
This little charmer is quite the most promising Oriental kitten I have handled for many years, he really is an outstanding kitten. Excellent head shape. Ears excellent shape size and set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent chin line. Superb green eyes of perfect size, shape and set. Excellent neck length. Excellent body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent soft colouring. Excellent condition. On top of all his qualities he's also a right little charmer! Not bad for 18 weeks. To his breeder Mrs June Clegg I have to say "well done", and if he fulfils this early promise you will certainly have a truly great exhibit on your hands.
