TEESSIDE CAT CLUB

John S Harrison

My thanks to Show Manager Alice Fox for inviting me to judge at this popular show where there is always a warm welcome. The entry this year was very good and some very high quality Orientals turned out which made judging all the more enjoyable. I had some really grand cats. Many thanks to Mark for stewarding for me with his usual care and efficiency.

AV Oriental Champion Male
This was a quite outstanding class and the two exhibits were of exceptional quality, and therefore the result may have seemed a little strange. I was bitterly disappointed that I had to mark the one chap NAR, but unfortunately I was of the clear opinion that his registration is now incorrect.

Gr.Ch : Brown's CH TADACHOW SPIRIT OFOZ 45a 15-11-01
A magnificent Oriental male of outstanding type. Head of overall excellence. Ears large and very well set, just a tendency to hold a little low when fully relaxed. Excellent profile with good chin line and perfect bite. Eyes of excellent shape, set and expression and of the most outstanding clear deep green. Excellent lines to wedge. Excellent long neck. Excellent long slender body with long slender legs and balanced tail, this really is a strong masculine Oriental with no tendency to coarseness. Excellent short close lying coat of correct texture. Blue colour a little dark, with correct beige ground. I would like stronger leg and tail markings for perfection. In blues ticking is often a little difficult to assess, and because of the intensity of colour his body appeared at first to be rather solid, however by moving him in the light it was quite clear that the ticking was there and is wholly acceptable. A really relaxed exhibit and a pleasure to handle. I understand that this completed his title. Congratulations to owners and breeders.

Not as Registered: Fowler's CH PEINA SYDNEYNOTASPOT 38n 13-08-02
A superb example of an Oriental male, with regard to type this wonderful chap has everything I look for in an Oriental, and added to that has the most relaxed, laid back, temperament which I find so appealing. Ears large and perfectly set. Skull just a little flat detracting slightly from an otherwise excellent profile Excellent lines to wedge. Eyes of excellent shape and set and the clearest brightest green in colour. Excellent body type, excellent limbs, excellent tail length though a little more taper would make perfect! Coat of excellent length and texture. Quite superb Caramel colour. I have no doubt that our Syd was correctly registered, and I know when I judged him a month or so ago his pattern was acceptable for a Spotted Tabby, though certainly not the finest. His spots are now very indistinct and superficial (though of course they are still visible) and quite clearly do not extend to the skin on any part of the body, he now has a clear beige under-colour and is definitely more of a Shaded (43n) than a Spotted Tabby (38n). He is just over 12 months old and the change in his coat is what we frequently see in a Shaded …. If the pattern on his coat continues to clear and the undercoat continues to come through he will be a really superb example of a Shaded. At the minute he's in that 'in-betweeny' stage, but having said that his shading is sufficiently defined that had he been registered as 43n I would without doubt have awarded the Reserve to him, and he might even have taken the Grand. I hope his owners were not too disappointed. I really am impressed with our Syd ….. and would willingly have brought him home with me …. I look forward to meeting up with him again in the future.

AV Oriental Champion Female
Gr Ch : Sloan's CH MYAA LITTLE MISSNAUGHTY. 43a 12-02-02
A fine elegant female of superb Oriental type. Head of overall excellence. Ears large and well set with excellent width between. Very good profile, excellent bite, firm chin. Unfortunately she has a tendency to puff out her whisker pads and this gives the impression of a slight pinch, however when she relaxes she has excellent lines to the wedge. Excellent eye shape and set, very good colour. Elegant neck, excellent long fine body of superb type. Long fine elegant legs with dainty paws, long well balanced tail. Excellent coat length and texture. Very good blue colouring with rather pale under colour. The under colour is clearly defined and extends halfway up the hairs. It is remarkable that the classic pattern has broken down so much in this queen … though of course it is still discernable (and probably always will be). The Standard of Points for the Shaded clearly states "The more heavily shaded adults may still show some superficial broken tabby pattern, especially on the back and sides; this pattern may be more noticeable in standard varieties than in silver varieties. Cats with a classic pattern may appear darker because the pattern area is greater." A really delightful queen of overall excellence very well deserving of the Grand, I am surprised that she has not already gained her title.

Res : Duffy's CH FLUTTERBY TALLULAH MAY 35 20-02-02
A very fine dainty young female of very pleasing type …. a real little china doll! Ears of very good shape, size and setting. Skull just a little flatter than I like, but the overall profile was fine. Lovely expressive blue eyes of excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type. Very dainty limbs with the most elegant of paws. Excellent tail length and taper. Excellent coat length and texture. Good clear white overall though just a little dingy around muzzle and slight yellowing on tail. A really pleasing exhibit with a delightful temperament. Well deserving of Reserve.

Not Placed : Bruce's CH ADMEWSH XANDRAGOAPRIL 37e. 29-03-02
A queen of overall pleasing type, very good colouring, and excellent temperament though I was dismayed that she was eligible for this class. Unfortunately she has a distinct skull depression which is clearly visible, a noticeably overshot bite, and has orange eye colour. Individually these three faults are withholding faults in accordance with the GCCF Standard of Points for the Oriental. Both the skeletal defects were confirmed by the Duty Vet.

AC Bi-Colour Ragdoll Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Sprot's GR CH CHURSTON CAMEO 66 31 28-03-2000
I have recently reported on this really exceptional female, my opinion has not changed. To me she is one of the finest examples of the breed and is a real pleasure to judge. Excellent head shape which is impossible to fault. Excellent ear size and shape, with that perfect forward tilt. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile with perfect nose. Excellent chin. Excellent eye shape & set. Excellent muzzle and perfectly defined cheeks. Excellent neck. Excellent body & legs. Excellent Coat length and texture. Excellent points colour. Excellent condition and temperament. Certainly my type of cat and without doubt more than worthy of CC & BoB!

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Kitten, Male
1 Shooter's DOOLITTLE KOFI 66f 09-05-03
Still very much a baby. Head overall rather long and narrow. Ears fair size and shape, set rather close. Eyes good shape and excellent colour. Fair muzzle. Little evidence of any cheek definition. Coat very soft kitten fluff. Excellent cream points colour. Super tempered little chap.

AC Colourpointed / Mitted Ragdoll Kitten Female
1 & BoB SHALAPAWS SNOWQUEEN 66w 24-01-03
What a very nice little female … she really does show promise! A well grown youngster of overall excellent type. Ears of excellent shape and size, very well set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile, though just needs to grow into nose. Excellent eye size and shape. Excellent muzzle shape, superb cheek development for age. Excellent body type. Excellent coat length and texture. Excellent points colour. Good markings. A really superb little lady, my only real criticism is that I thought her eye colour just a little pale, but her other outstanding qualities more than carry that. I shall watch her with interest.

2 Shooter's SHALAPAWS SHOOTERS STAR 66 16-02-03
A nice kitten of very good type overall, but unfortunately out classed by the above. Head of very good type overall. Very good profile showing excellent nose length. Ears good size and shape. Well set. Good muzzle shape. Good body length and type. Coat good length and texture. Excellent points colour. A pleasing & promising kitten, unlucky to meet the winner.
