TEESSIDE CAT CLUB

August 28th 2004

John S Harrison

Many thanks to Judy Watson and the Committee for inviting me to judge at Teeside once again. We always expect Teeside to be a well organised show, and this year with Judy in charge, was certainly no exception.

At just 2 years of age this exhibit is an excellent example of the Oriental. Very large ears, well set.. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile. Excellent lines to wedge. Vivid green eyes of excellent shape and set. Excellent body type. Coat of very good length and texture. Heavy shading of excellent caramel colour showing minimal pattern. Unfortunately his ground colour is just a little dark and there could be better definition to shading …. But come on let's be honest, he really is a stunning example of the breed. He is a cat I have always enjoyed judging, he is such a joy to handle, and as always he was shown in perfect condition. I could not help but smile when I thought back to last year when I judged the Grand Champion at this show and had to mark him down 'Not as Registered' ….. today he is clearly a good quality Shaded, though even when he was registered as a Spotted Tabby there was no doubt as to the quality of his type, at the moment he seems to be the one that all Neuters aspire to beat!! Certainly very well worthy of the Grand Premier.

A very pleasing cat of overall good Oriental type. Head of good length. Ears very good shape, size and set. Very good profile overall showing a good firm chin. Eyes of excellent shape and set, clear green colour. Very good body type, excellent length with we'll proportioned legs and tail. Excellent dainty paws. Coat of excellent length and texture. Very even in colour showing no barring to body. In the hall lighting it was difficult to assess the colour, I was a little concerned that there appeared to be little difference between the shading and base colour … but sports hall lighting and Cream or Apricot colouring really don't go together!! A very nice mannered chap in excellent condition …. Honest Mum he tried his best!!! Happy to award the Reserve Grand.

This chappy certainly got out of bed on the wrong side … talk about being a grumpy mog! Head of overall fair type. Ears of good size but set rather too high. Severe pinch spoils lines to wedge. Eyes of good set but rather full, and far too orange in colour. Excellent body type, with very good muscle tone. Well balanced legs and tail. Coat of excellent length, superb texture, and very good rich brown colour, though unfortunately it is rather unsound. A pity he was not more relaxed.

AV Oriental Grand Premier Female

This exhibit really is a fine example of the Oriental Lilac, have the true soft frosted colouring which was so highly prized in the early days of the variety, and which is so seldom seen today. At nine years old she still retains remarkably good type, there can be very few Orientals who can still win at this age! Head of overall good type. Excellent ear shape and size and, correctly set with good width between. Skull rather flat spoiling the profile. Excellent eye shape and set. Very good muzzle with no indication of a pinch. Body of good length, and still retaining satisfactory type. Tail very short. Excellent coat length and texture. A delightful natured old lady shown in excellent condition … she certainly seemed to enjoy her day out. Well deserving of Grand Premier Certificate. A real pleasure to Judge. Congratulations to her Owners for keeping her in such lovely condition.

At 5½ another older exhibit, albeit not quite as elderly as her stable mate. Ears of good size but set a little high. Fairly good profile. Eyes of good shape and set, very good green in colour. Muzzle showing slight pinch. Body of very good length and correct type. Good long legs. Tail good length, well tapered though just a little thick at the tip. Excellent coat length and texture, dense black colour and sound to the roots. Shown in excellent condition, and handled really well. Well deserving of Reserve Certificate.

A most impressive youngster with so much quality … certainly the sort of Asian I like! Ears of excellent size and shape, correctltly set. Excellent top of head. Excellent profile showing nose of correct length. Excellent bite and lovely strong chin. Excellent eye shape and set. Excellent body type, strong and masculine with no tendency to coarseness. Excellent coat length and texture. Light shading of excellent colour on excellent clear silver ground. Excellent friendly chap, shown in superb condition as I have come to expect from the breeder/owners. One can only say yet another quality cat in this prefix. My congratulations and thanks for showing such lovewly cats under me.

Unfortunately this chap was determined to see the colour of my blood! H e certainly had no intention of letting me handle him!

Foreign White, Adult Female
1 (CC & BoB n/a) Holdsworth's Chenazz Snowwhitedotcom 08-08-2002
A very nervous exhibit. Ears of good size and shape, correctly set. Rather flat top of head resulting in angular profile. Bite very untidy with missing front teeth. Eyes good shape and set. Very good body type. Coat rather long, but of good texture. Tail a little short for balance. Face rather grubby.

2 Janczyk & McFarlane's Stramash Mizz Wizz 29-10-2003
Only just adult. Ears of good size and shape but rather low set, which combined with the fact that the head is a little short results in an unbalanced appearance to the head. Eyes very good shape and set. Muzzle showing severe pinch. Excellent bite and chin line. Excellent body type with balanced limbs and tail. Coat short and close lying. Face a little grubby.

Oriental Blue Adult Female
Best of Breed Not Awarded
Helm's Ch Niterap Blue Orchid 30-11-2002 A rather thin lady with a full tummy, the Vet confirmed that she was not in kitten. Of overall fair Oriental type. Poor profile. Muzzle showing severe pinch. Coat a little open and very dark colour.

Morrison's Ch Adtresh Bonnybelle 22-10-2002 Ears good size and set. Profile very uneven. Bite very untidy. Muzzle too fine. Chin very shallow.

Oriental Tortie Adult Female
1 CC & BoB Cassar Simmonds' Ch Fiordilisio Miss Teeque 37e 11-11-2002
Ears of very good shape, size and set. Fair top of head, just a little flat giving a slightly angular appearance to an otherwise good profile. Very good muzzle, with good straight lines to the wedge. Eyes good shape, set and colour. Excellent body type. Long slender legs, very neat paws. Whip tail of excellent length. Coat of excellent length and texture, colour very rich and sound to roots. Because she has so much red there is evidence of barring on her legs. A very pleasing exhibit well deserving of the CC & BoB.

2 Bailey's Chez Letsgetbusy 37e 16-03-2003
A cat of fair overall type. Ears good shape and set but rather small. Fair profile. Muzzle showing pinch. Eyes of fair set but very full, good colour. Medium body type. Coat of good texture but rather long. Very good colouring.

Oriental Cream or Apricot Kitten
Wrong Class : Cogan's Fiordilisio Cherchill 37f 01-01-2004 A top quality kitten of excellent Oriental type. Excellent head shape. Excellent ear size shape and set. Excellent Eye shape. Excellent body type. Excellent bright rich red colour, and most definitely NOT Cream or Apricot! A very promising kitten indeed.
